I have a Nichols scope that I bought back in the late 90's. It's been on a safe queen for the last 10 years. I pulled it out this past fall and fired one shot and the magnification adjustment ring locked up. It's a good scope, I'd like to use it. Right now it's a straight 5 power that's where it stuck.

Is there anybody that fixes these?

Thanks; John

Call Guns Unlimited in Omaha, NE, at 402-339-0771, as their wholesale division, GU Wholesale, was the importer of the Nichols line of scopes.

What rings and mounts are you guys using? My scope is 26mm but oddly would not fit in 26mm Sako ringmounts.

Thanks 260Remguy. I will give them a call. I checked with another place that fixes scopes, but he said it would be $175-$200 to fix it. I don't believe it would be worth that. I would just buy a good used one for that much.
Thanks; John

"Nichols" are 1" tube scopes made in Japan or the Philipines.

"Nickels" are 26mm tube scopes made in Germany and are much higher quality.

Nickels sued Nichols to force them to stop selling scopes, 'cause people who couldn't spell didn't recognize the difference.

They were absolutely no help whatsoever. Said they haven't been made for several years, no parts, no repair, nuthin.

I was in their retail store, Guns Unlimited, on Wednesday and saw that they still have a couple different styles of Nichols scopes in the counter display case.

260Remguy: "Nickel" scopes, the German kind...have any idea how common these are?

I have one that came on a late '50s Schultz & Larsen rifle. I assume the scope is also from that period. Very clear glass and adjustments work fine. It's a 4X straight tube with a fine crosshair. High polish & deep blue on the tube. It appears to be a good quality scope.

I don't know how common they are in the U.S. The Nickels scopes that I have came to me via Husqvarnas and Kricos.

Nickel Supra scopes are very common on drillings and BBFs! I've had about a dozen guns that came with them, and the scopes were excellent for their time.

I'd have no problem installing a Nickel Supra scope on any of my rifles. The only one that I had that broke didn't survive my fall off the top of the Ruby Mountains. TG the gun landed on the scope. I landed on both, but only the scope died.

I have a Nickel Supra 4x that I would love to use, but can't because it is missing the windage cap. I contacted Nickel in Germany, but no parts are available for a 50 year old scope. The scope is crisp and clear with that lovely heavy German reticle.
