Just got this e-mail from them. I paid $306 to the door for the 4x. I know nothing about the Terra 3X series. I'm going to do some info searching though. Any input about the scopes or the situation would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I thought you were sending a scope back for repairs ? A 4x IIRC ?
Hey Roy,
That was the intent. Conquest 4x32
They don't repair many of the discontinued models anymore. I sent in a Conquest 30mm 3-12x56 and am receiving a replacement today. Am waiting on UPS to drive up at any moment...
As to your question: The Terra is a good, solid line -- not the full equal of the older Conquests but nonetheless a very good performer.
Was kinda feeling they might not repair it because of that.
I need some time to think on it before answering them. Need to find out how much they're going to allow for the Conquest. Quite a difference in price between the 2-7x32 and the 4-12x42 RZ8.
Right now I'm leaning towards taking what they offer heads up. Sell it and get a 6x36 FXII
Bought it in 2010 when it let known it was to be discontinued. Never hunted it and doesn't have 50 shot on it.
My concern would be them not being able to repair something that is 5 years old. I guess "Lifetime Warranty" is code for their lifetime, not yours. Lots of guys bought those 4x Conquests because they wanted a fixed power scope more than just any old other Zeiss product that becomes available.
Some strange decisions have been coming from Zeiss, including discontinuing their #4 reticle and not even offering it as a retro-fit option. I consider their #4 THE best low-light reticle around. But why not match some of the industry's best low-light glass with an appropriate reticle? I am not a fan of the illuminated reticles -- never have been and never will be.
I love Zeiss products but am baffled by that decision -- not to mention no longer servicing certain products.
Count me in with that group,Roy.
I've been off line since early Sept of last yr but I recall back then reading about a few incidents with these 4x scopes. Search as I might I couldn't find the problem. Not that it matters now.
I did just reply to CS asking how much they are allowing for my scope.
So which one would sell the best:
TERRA 3X
2-7x32 Plex 522721-9920-
3-9x42 Plex 522701-9920-
3-9x42 RZ6 522701-9979-
4-12x42 Plex 522711-9920-
4-12x42 RZ8 522711-9980-
I have 2 4X and 2 2.5-8 Conquests and a 2-7 Terra. I would be apeshist if they tried to pawn off another POS Terra on me as a replacement. Please stand your ground and demand an American made replacement, even if it has to say Meopta on it.
Just finished reading the Terra review at Optics Thoughts. The Terra didn't fair well at all. I hear what your saying and definitely see your point. But I really need a fixed power to replace the Conquest. So right now I'm leaning hard towards getting one of the higher priced Terra's they're offering. Give someone a heck of a deal and get me a fixed Leupold.

Nice, won't be picking up any old Conquests anymore . Hope you get your scope fixed
Since there was nothing comparable, they did bump me up to a very nice upgrade. And I must say the Conquest DL 3-12x50 features a distinct step up in terms of optics over the older Conquests, which are VERY good scopes in their own right. But the detail, contrast and color rendition right at dark really jump out at you with the new (introduced 2014) DL line (these are not the same as the earlier duo-toned Duralyts). .
GLAD things worked out in your favor.

They did you right on that one. Good Deal
I have a 4.5x14x50 Conquest that the side focus will no longer focus at high power. Will be calling Zeiss to see what my options are since from what I have heard they will not repair it. It will not be replaced with a Terra!
And it may not be taking into consideration the initial value of your scope. The highest priced Terra they offered me was $499.95($440 at Amazon). That's way more than what my 4X cost initially. Good luck to you.
Zeiss is cheeping out here, as you mention they want to
replace your Conquest with a lesser Chinese made Terra.
Don't settle for that, get at least a Conquest HD, they
are made in Japan and will be similar to your original
Conquest.

Robert-That is not correct. The HD5 scopes are made in Germany. The Terra scope line is assembled in Japan. None of them are made in China.
By allowing him a choice, I think they are giving him quite the fair deal. The 4-12x50 sells for quite a bit more than did his 4x Conquest. Just my .02...

You are not correct, the Terra scope line is below the orig. Conquest by all reviews I have seen.
Zeiss makes optics in China, Japan, Germany and ?
If I had an original Conquest fail, I would demand a new
Conquest HD. I don't care what size, that does not matter.
Farmboy, Terra scopes are made in Japan, Terra binos are made in China
I to figure it's fair deal. So I sent them an e-mail this morning saying I was hoping to get another fixed power scope but my options are what they are. Told them I'd take the Terra 4-12x42 RZ8. For two reasons. First I figure it would sell the easiest. Second the lowest price I found for it is $440+shipping. My plan is to try and sell it for whatever it costs to get me into a FXII 6x36 with LRD. No reply from them yet though.
