Have a problem. 1957 Savage 99F in the .308 Winchester. Leupold 99R one piece base with Leupold extended rings. Windage screws at rear of the base. Leupold VII 3X9X40.

Bore sighted L/R using windage screws, easy.

Tried to raise height a few inches, no dice. Scope is adjusted as high as it can go so the prior owner must have noticed this.

I need shims for the front of the base? For the rings? I simply don't have a clue if its possible and where can I buy them?

Thanks in advance for any help and or insight you may have.

In my opinion, you first need to center the reticle.

Then you look through the bore with a mirror, if necessary, to check how far from the center you are. It seems for "close enough" you can use a .001" for every inch it is off at 100 yards. If the crosshair is low, you need to add to the front. If the crosshair is high, you need to add to the rear.
By center the reticle do you mean left to right? Bore sighting I did that and I'm dead centered. 4" low at 25 yds which I knew out of the gate was not good. The scope adjustments only allowed me to get to 2" low at 25 yds. A lever action 99 ain't easy to look down the bore. My guess is to shim the rear.

Left to right and up and down.
Thanks very much.
