The Montana Mount was a 1950's into 1960's vintage bases and rings combo made by Browning Tools, Inc., in Livingston, MT.

The bases don't have any ID marks on them, so sorting them once they aren't in the original boxes will require a bit of trial and error. The upside being that they apparently only made bases to eleven different rifle models:

Enfield 1914/1917 with the protective "ears" removed
Marlin 336
Mauser 98
Remington 14/141
Remington 721/722
Remington 760
Savage 40/45 Super Sporter
Savage 99
Springfield 1903
Winchester 54
Winchester 70

If anybody has an knowledge about the Montana Mounts that he/she would care to share, I'd appreciate it. The only paper that I have on them is a copy of an installation instructions sheet.

Thanks in advance.
260, are there really any other rifles than the eleven you listed?
Montana mounts look similar to Stith or Tilden? I think I have some early 50s Gun Digest type books. I will see what they show.

Those are the only rifles listed on the installation instructions sheet.
I know. The intenent of my comment was as in; "I didn't know any others existed". Tongue in cheek for I thought that group represent the vast majority of those worthy of consideration. ?
The scopes listed on the Montana Mount installation instructions are:

Hensolts (New)
Leupold with internal adjustments
Lyman Alaskan and Challenger
Norman Ford Texan
Unertl Falcon, Hawk, and Condor
Weaver K2.5, K4, K6, and KV

I guess that I'll just have to look at those that were packed as a set for a specific rifle and compared them to the 100+/- loose bases that I have to sort them by application.
260, I have not had a chance to look through all my books yet. A quick look showed no reference to Montana in the 1957 Gun Digest. The New Official Gun Book 1953-1954 shows a tiny blurb that they are removable akin to B & L mounts. The one illustration shows a mount with a knurled collar similar to the one that has been on GB in the Savage 99 search group. They are listed at $21 plus $3 for adjustable bases.
Thank you for your reply. Any information, no matter if it is lacking in detail, adds up in the end.
I think I have Gun Digest 55 and 56 if I can locate will see what they contain. Is the "release collar" on all of those mounts? Looks like turning the collar on the scope depresses a stud on the mount.
Did you ever have a chance to look for my mount?
B&L base?
Yes B & L base and rings.
