A family member from England brought a pair with him to do some whale watching. I Had a chance to look through them yesterday for the first time. Wow, they are fantastic! Very sharp and clear image.

The particular Opticron binoculars he has say, Made in England.

Does anybody here have experience with Opticron products?

There are a whole bunch of different Opticron Models. They are a lot different one from the other. While Opticron is based in England, they source a lot of their binoculars through the Japanese firm Kamakura. Some models are Japanese, some Chinese. So "made in England" is probably not a realistic outlook.

Some discussion of the Leupold Yosemite here have commented on the lesser quality of the new Yosemite. The Opticron Savannah is a ringer for the original Yosemite. I have an Opticron HR WP 10x42 porro. This is a twin for the now defunct Minpc BP porro glass. Narrow field but great optics.

Their top end is the DBA VHD. This is just under $1,000 and is a whole lot like the Leupold Mojave Guide Pro. I do think I'd give the DBA an edge in image.

My everyday ATV binocular is a very compact Discovery WP 8x32. This has pretty good optics and has lived 24/7 in the saddle bag of my Yamaha ATV during irrigation season for four years, Still bright and tight as when it was new...it no longer looks new.

Mostly Opticron falls in the line of good bang for the buck binoculars. They have recently opened up shop here in the US.
