Wondering for those of you that have Leupold's Varmint Hunter reticle, how do you like it? Was thinking about changing a duplex reticle to the Varmint Hunter reticle on my VX-3 3.5-10x40mm. It will be going on 243win shooting Barnes 80gr.TTSX bullets for deer and varmints. I like it because of the 20mph wind hash marks in the scope over the Boone & Crockett reticle. Do you think this reticle would match up to the 243win shooting 80gr. TTSX bullet?
I like mine very much.. Have four of them.

However, if it's worth anything to you. The holdover points are higher than the B&C.

Also, the reticle is a fine duplex where the B&C is a heavy duplex like the standard scope.

The fine duplex is great for varmint.. I've never used it to find a deer at low light. I've wondered about that.

I have several. Nice varmint reticle. IMO, I would vote no for deer hunting. I like a #4 reticle for that purpose.
Varmint hunter is fantastic for prairie dogging. I'm not sure Leupold can swap that as it and the B&C reticle are laser etched. Anyone know if Leupy will swap that with a wire reticle scope?
I had 1 put in place of a fine duplex.
Love them for prairie dogs also.
Have 4 of them.
I have one on a heavy .300 that I used to hunt deer.. I had a spot where I could watch an old strip mine, and another where I had a farm surrounded by woods.. My is a 6.5-20.. Of course this is a specialized use.. I had other rifles for general hunting.. But this rig killed several nice bucks for me..
IIRC dogzapper was involved in the design of that reticle, and then there was "the rest of the story"...
Thanks guys! This 243 win is shooting a 0.300" center to center 3-shot group with Barnes 80gr.TTSX bullet using RL17 powder. This gun sole purpose is damage control hunts in open wheat fields and predator hunts. Right now I have a Burris Euro-Diamond 2.5-10x44mm with Ballistic Plex reticle and have the Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40mm duplex reticle on the 300 H&H. Was thinking putting Burris on the 300 H&H for elk sense power goes down to 2.5x for heavier woods and still have 10x for more open areas. Thinking of the finer Varmint Hunter reticle for 243win sense more open hunt area and more likely be hunting with it during better light then wooded areas. Plus finer reticle for precision shots.

Leupold said they will install Varmint Hunter reticle as long as it is a VX-3, cost is $110.00 and 3wks to 4wks turn around time.

Thanks for the follow up. Considering the cost I'd look for a new scope with one in it unless not a factory magnification range.
