It's that time of the year again when I am off to Kodiak for a week of R&R. Cannot wait to get there, set up my gear, light a cigar and do some fishing. [Linked Image]

I'll be gone until July 27th and for those of you who know me you know what this means.....Pretty much everything in the store is on sale as I want the boys here to be so busy they will not have a chance to miss me. Discounts of up to 35% are what they've been authorized to do (obviously depending on brand and product). Give a call, 516-217-1000 or send an e-mail:

Hopefully I'll be able to share some great photos this year as in years past:

Yellow Eyed Rock Fish. it's main diet is shrimp which gives it that color (I believe) and is why it is, IMO, one of the tastiest fish out there

Sorry Doug,

Joel sold me a superb Nikon FX 70-300mm lens for my new D5500. (Which I am elated with.) And with a trip to Newport Or coming up in a week, my budget is blown.

But just DAMN, that is a nice fish. Congratulations.

I caught a little ten pound lingcod last summer out of Newport, and I am hooked. They are like meth, one hit is all it takes.

I may just have to figure a way to get to Kodiak, if that is at all typical of the fishery!

Do you mind sharing the specs on the fish?
Unfortunately, Kodiaks fishery has taken a huge hit over the years. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great place to fish but it's nowhere what it was 5-10 years ago.
That one was just shy of 50*
This year we limited out on Lings but they were in the 10-25* class. I did pick up a sweet 52" Halibut which was great
Thanks for the response.

We spent a week around Newport and went out once. Salmon were nowhere to be found, tuna were not biting, so we settled for rock fish.

This year, with the unusually cold weather, even the ground fish were not biting well. After six hours, we each (eleven anglers) boated half a limit of black bass, and I caught a barely legal cabezon.

Maybe we will get back when the salmon run heats up.
