i sold a friend a Weatherby 300 magnum a few years ago which he takes on his annual Nebraska hunt. Last year he passed on a nice buck that he just couldn't get close enough to. He wants to add a turret (or change the scope) so he can dial for a 500 to 600 yard shot. His Zeiss is a 1cm/100m click model with a standard duplex reticle. Does someone make a turret for this piece? Would this scope even be reliable to twisting turrets? My suggestion to him was to swap it for a Swarovski that he has and proceed from there. Has anyone here played with turrets on a Zeiss like this?

Have two Diavari 3-9x42 1" with Kenton elevation turrents. 2000ish vintage scopes.

Work fine for hunting for me. They haven't been "tested" other than shot out to 500. I imagine Kenton would know. Depending on its age, they may not be able to add the turret.

The Kenton knob, if it fits etc, will just be turning the existing erector system already in the scope. Smart money would be to shoot some erector tests BEFORE paying for the turret upgrade; just use the stock turret. That'll tell you if the erector tracks and returns to zero. If it does, buy the turret upgrade. If not, look elsewhere. There are a number of high-quality "dialing" scopes available these days.

Suggest he googles "box test" and "tall target test" and give those a try. If that's too much shooting then LR isn't for him anyway.

IIRC that scope has fairly limited erector travel, but for 5 to 6 hundred it should work. Heed tomk's advice. I looked into this once upon a time, but stopped short of finding the answer to this part of my question. The reticle can't or rather won't be changed.

BTW FYI those are .1 mil clicks, so mil ballistic solutions will match.

If he doesn't have the ASV turrets on the scope, he can send it in to Zeiss (about 8 weeks turnaround) and they will install them. Had that done on my 1.5-6 and 2.5-10 scopes. Then he can get a Kenton turret to fit on them.

Send to Zeiss for ASV+ retrofit and he will be done out to 600 yards.

I had one of my Diavari V 1.5-6x42's retrofitted with the AVS+ (elev & windage). It passes a tall target test and has been serving me well for the past 4 years.

FYI, when I sent my Diavaris in, they didn't charge me. All it cost was shipping out. They took care of the rest. I call that pretty good customer service...

IIRC & fwiw, Kenton does Zeiss' retrofitting.

They seemed pretty confused when I sent mine in. Twice charged me $80 plus shipping and once charged me $200 plus shipping. Even at the higher cost I think it's worth it to have the ASV+
