Hi MD,

I put this same question in "Ask John Barsness Questions about RIFLESCOPES BRIGHTNESS" but repeat here:

A question about the number of lenses inside a riflescope:

By design, are there or are needed more lenses, for example, in a 2,5-10x variable scope than in a 6x42 fixed magnification scope?

Thank you!

PH
short answer is yes there are more lenses in a variable power than a fixed power. I was looking for some cut away images to illustrate that point, but my google fu is weak today.

it boils down to personal preference these days, but I find most people like the flexibility of a variable power scope, while some purist still like fixed power.
Just did a quick look-up. Looks like on a variable you could have anywhere from 8-15 or more lenses depending upon the manufacturer.
Fewer than 8 for a fixed scope.
Hi Bbear,

Good, Thanks!

Please, can you give some source to find that information?
I am working on this mater.

Regards

PH

Do a search for "internal view of rifle scope" . I used yahoo search and clicked on photos. I'd wager any search engine would give you pictures.
Thank you Bbear!
