I primarily shoot 800 or less. I was just wondering what, if any, feedback there is on the Sig Kilo 850 model?

I've seen discussions on the Kilo 2000. I was just wondering if the 'good' passes down to the 850?

Ok, got them ordered the other day. Today I get an email that delivery will be delayed up to 10 additional days as the product has to come 'from another location'.

For archery this would be awesome. Since I rifle hunt and need to range targets further....I need little more magnification. This model needs to be available in 6 power. The 4x powers is just not enough. Makes a big difference when using another range finder at 6X side by side. I also wish the aiming circle (imagine Nikons BDC but one single floating circle) had a a dot in the center to help me at the longer ranges. When you're trying to point at something at 600 + yards, 4 power is pretty broad.
The glass is nice and clear.

You're aware there's a 1250, right?

I like the numbers on this one.
1200 yard max, 800 on trees, 600 yards for deer. Which is little beyond my comfort level. so Its all I need, I don't mind trying to shoot paper at those ranges.

Well, I was just recently made aware of this Kilo 850 model.

But what immediately jumps out at me is that it's 4X power. I know that I wouldn't like that. My current rangefinder is a Nikon, and according to the specs listed on the box, and in the manual, it's 8X.

I doubt very much that I would become accustomed to 4X.

So I guess I won't buy, tho Cabela's has 'em for good price.

Finally received them about two weeks back. Between work and the local range being shut down due to rain, I haven't had a chance to take them out and see how they work. Should be able to get out this weekend.

I was asking about them twice around here but got no responses.

I recommended one to Dad's friend who was looking for something out to 400-500yds. Here is another forum chat on them. Shows some pros and cons but overwhelmingly pro.

Ok, finally got to test them out against my older Leica 1000. Besides the obvious difference in magnification, the optics are sharp and clear. I compared them to a Zeiss Conquest HD 3-15 scope I have (set at 4x) and the Zeiss is just a tad sharper to my eyes.
Ranging was about equal though the Sig was noticeably faster with the answer. I ranged a herd of mixed exotics (blackbuck, Red Stag and Axis) with both after sun-up Saturday morning. The Leica gave me 692 and the Sig 692.4.
One negative I found was early morning ranging, the black letters/numbers that come up on the Sig are invisible in pre-dawn light. To be able to see the numbers, you had to range it then point it at the sky.
This morning I took an axis doe. I ranged her with both. The Sig gave me 109.5, the Leica 110. (yes, I got the doe).
For $149 bucks, it's a great deal given the negative I found.

I went to Cabela’s yesterday and bought the Sig Kilo 850. I paid $150 + tax.

Today I took it out to a hill-top ((Ruby Hill)) surrounded by various objects at various distances.

This was at about noon, with 100% clear blue sky and lottsa sun. I’m in Denver CO.

The Kilo 850 manual sez “ At dawn or dusk your rangefinder may be able to range trees at over 1,000 yards but in bright sunlight may only achieve 500 yards.“ Huh……..never heard that kinda data before!

Manual also sez:”Reflective tgt. up to 1,200 yds, trees up to 800 yds, and deer up to 600 yds.”

I was able to get readings on leafy trees/bushes at average distance of 743, with a max of 762 yds.

Golf cart and riding lawnmower size stuff at abt 550 yds.

The side of a brick building and a broadside of a stationary coal carrying rail-car both at 1,180-1,190 yds.

A different building and a couple of automobiles at 920 to 1,070.

Residential outdoor-type trash cans quick and easy at 450 plus yds. Sometimes a bit over 500 was doable.

At the time of day I did my testing, I have doubts abt. successfully ranging a deer at 600. Maybe yes at dawn or dusk??

Magnification of 4X? 6X would be MUCH better. It does have adjustable diopter, and a very sharp crisp image at any range. Much brighter and sharper than my Nikon RF.

Red display instead of black would be better, but part of the problem with reading the range display is the fact that the font Sig uses is too small and too “unbold”. Font needs to be at least 1 RCH larger, perhaps 2. And the numbers themselves need to be thicker/fatter. Sorta like, for example: If current range display is ARIAL #12, it would be much better if it was ARIAL BLACK 14 or 16.

My old Nikon RF has very fat and bold range readout, and it’s relaxing to read it, not a strain…….and it’s readout is black.

But for 150 bux, I think this Kilo850 is a good deal, as long as it stays fully functional for a few years. My well used Nikon RF was bought new in 2009, and has never gagged once, as far as I know. And it’s only on it’s second CR2 battery, so is thrifty in that respect.

I hope others chip-in here with their experiences with this Kilo850.

Update on my experience with my 850. I spent 9 days in Colorado for the 2nd season and used it every day in several different lighting levels.
My bull is a good example of how well it worked. I first spotted him at a distance and pulled out the 850. I was able to range him at 667.3 yards. I had already scoped out two benches below me that looked to be where he was headed. One at a whopping 33.7 yards and the other at 334.2 yards. This all prior to sunrise but during legal shooting hours.
I had ranged the opposite side of the canyon at 774 yards and various ponderosa pines out to the low 700's.
One day in bright sunshine, we spotted two mulie bucks and two of the guys had guestimated the range at 300 and 250 respectively. The 850 put it to rest with a measurement on the animals at 335 yards.
I played with it on one stand during mid-day and was able to range a clump of oak brush at 840 and an oilfield truck at 825.
It did seem that game animals beyond about 500-550 were more difficult to range in bright light conditions. At low-light I could hit them out to about 750 or so.

I snagged a Kilo 850 for like $160 at Big R about a month ago.. Best I have got is about 860 yards on trees and such. Great archery and general use, fairly close range hunting rangefinder, not the best for long range hunting and shooting though.
