Just picked up a 2.5-8 and thinking about getting the reticle changed to german #4. Some of the images I have seen show a wide gap between the thick post and some images show them much closer together. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have one in a VX2 3-9x40. It's a decent reticle but I like the post and duplex better. In the Leupold #4, the thick posts are farther apart than say Meoptas. The center posts are quite a bit heavier in the Leupold. I could take a pic of a post and duplex in 2.5-8x36 or the #4 if it would help.

I have had it done to a 4x, 2x7 and a couple 6x42s. I like it but the center portion is kind of small.

I have the #4 in a 2-12 VX6. If I did it again I'd just get the plain duplex or the Post and Duplex. The Leupold #4 bar spacing is too far apart to be useful for bracketing the way a #4 should.

Leupold list a post and duplex as an option that is similiar to the #4 but the post extend further towards the center, anyone have one of these?

I have an older one. The bars are fairly far apart but with a fine center hair, but not as fine as some of the Euros. Overall, pretty nice to shoot with.

But in the end, I've concluded that for me none of them work better than a good duplex, especially one with squared-off posts rather than pointers.

I have a VX-II 2-7 with the #4 and a VX-2 with the P&D. Prefer the P&D the thin part of the #4 is a little too heavy for my taste. Have three VX-1's with Hvy. Duplex and I like it too. Had a VX-II 3-9 with the #4 but it was on the Ex's Micro Medallion 7mm08 and it left when she did. Miss it more than her.

I have a #4 in a VariX II 1x4 that was installed by Premier reticles. It's OK but I like the post & duplex far more and the heavy duplex more than my #4.

My favorite is Leupold's German #4 with an illuminated dot in the center. Not sure if they make it anymore.

I like the #4 reticles on lower power scopes for large game, they bracket very quick.

I had one installed in an older 4x. Its good for hunting, but sucks for shooting paper (sighting in). It is very cartoonish. Very thick middle sections. I was hoping for something more along the lines of the Kahles #4 when I ordered it.

I had the Custom Shop install a German #4 on a VX-3 1.75-6x32. I'd take a picture of it if I knew how.

I had a German #4 dot reticle in a vx-III that I loved.

IIRC, I was at a SHOT show and saw a #4 in a 6x42, this was around the FX-III, possibly M8 era, since then I had one installed by the custom shop. Cannot recall the details, other than to say they did appear different, and I do believe Leupold or someone saying they had various spec #4's, and that one needs to contact Leupold for exact specs.

I did like it. The PD does offer some great Pros as well. On closer targets a G1 in a 4x was likely the fastest on target for me, but it is coarse for longer range work.

IF Leupold will not do an alternate spaced #4, one might consider a PD.

IIRC, I had an M8 matte, factory Heavy PD - bottom 3 were thicker than a std PD. In the woods at Dusk, not much better. Long range....not so much.

Again, one should inquire as to specs on proposed reticle change if in question to prevent any disappointments.
