Last week I killed a free range Sonora Desert Bighorn sheep that completed my Grand Slam of North
American Wild Sheep (#2301).
I killed my Dall ram in the Yukon Territory in 1984.
I solo scouted for 24 days and hunted two days for my Bighorn ram in Idaho's desolate Owyhee River
in 2014.
I backpacked August 2023 in the Cassiar Mountains of northern British Columbia for my Stone ram.
It's always been more of a dream than a goal for me. I've been a western mountain hunter since I
was 18 years old.
I guided and outfitted in Wyoming for 27 years.
It took 40 years since I pulled the trigger on my first ram to get my fourth ram for the Slam. This was also the 86th
sheep hunt that I have either guided or personally hunted.
Being now 67, I hope to have some more seasons left before I can't any longer lace up my boots.
Truly awesome. Hope to see a write up of each hunt along your journey.
Awesome job. Glad to see you're still out after them. I'm sure all were epic hunts and adventures.

Congrats. I wish…😊 Lots of steep miles on your little hoofies. 😁
Congratulations on the accomplishment. As others have said, stories on the individual rams would be nice to read. A welcome change to the forum!
I think 87 sheep hunts is even more impressive!
Congrats dukxdog, that Stone Sheep is AWESOME!
Congratulations that's awesome.
Dux… you cannot know how impressed I am. Congratulations!
67? Hell you’re young enough to thru em for round two! I hope you do!

dukxdog;
Good evening to you sir, thanks for sharing the photos.
My goodness they're all dandies but Holy Smokes that's a fine, fine looking Stone ram there.
Stuff dreams are made of.
Again the rest are good rams, but as a BC sometime sheep chaser, that's a grand ram.
Best.
Dwayne
Very impressed. That’s a lot of work & dedication. Tell me, what were you shooting?
Wow! Outstanding. What a great accomplishment - and you had a lot of wonderful time in the wilderness over all those years.
Thanks for sharing that info and those great photos.
Regards, Guy
Congratulations, quite an accomplishment! You make the rest of us seem like a bunch of slackers. 😂
I can't get over this pic.
One of, if not, the best hunting photos I've ever seen.
I agree, simply outstanding.

Me too. Several times doesn't count tho. Especially if they are dinks.
(sigh!). One does what one can. I agree - that Stone and the picture, are outstanding!
You might just have to get some new hunting boots with velcro if you anticipate problems with your laces. Then you'll be able to go after Altai argali, Gobi argali and Marco Polo rams to add to your wonderful collection.

Marco Polo- Kyrgyzstan
Blue Sheep- Nepal
Fantastic! By the way, you are making me feel lazy.
Nice. At one time I was interested in trying for the Grand Slam. I have a stone and a bighorn but after going to Africa my interests changed from sheep to the spiral horn antelopes. Back when I was interested in sheep the desert was the hard part. Tags in the USA have always been limited and MX wasn't doing the hunts like they are now. If you want the slam these days you can simply stroke a check for any of them if you have deep enough pockets but that wasn't the case in the late 70s.
Congratulations. Quite an accomplishment.

Congrats on your slam, great achievement and great sheep. Then on to international sheep and goat as well, super, and still at in your late 60’s as well, that is admirable, those Mrs get steeper and taller every year, don’t they? Fellow Wyoming sheep hunter here. Completed my slam in 95 , grand slam #637. I was particularly proud, that as blue collr worker ( oil patch) I was ble to get it done before cost really escalated. First ram, at age of 40, dall 1762/8 BC, self guided chugach range Ak. Drew Nevada desert in 92, biggest event of my life, Stone in BC 93, and finally bighorn Alberta. Last sheep bighorn here in Wyoming, self guided, in 99. Last sheep hunt , have pulmonary fibrosis, at age of 85, sheep hunting days are done, miss it but with no regrets. Costs have gone thru the roof, haven’t they? I heard one of the bid tags at sheep show went for over 800k, can that be true? Congrats and keep climbing the mtns
Congrats dukx! Awesome stuff.
Holy smokes, what a journey! Well done and congrats!
That is quite an accomplishment sir! Congratulations!
Ron
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Wow, congratulations on an amazing achievement! I'm envious of the experiences you've had hunting sheep all over the world!

Congrats, dukxdog! Thanks for sharing this and letting us live vicariously through some of your adventures. What a great lifetime of mountain hunting (so far - not over yet!). The 26-day hunt in Idaho is the kind of thing I dream about. Made my Saturday morning, thanks!
Congratulations. Beautiful animals
Congratulations on your sheep slam. Truly a noble beast and breath taking scenery. Well done and well deserved sir!
Congratulations on fulfilling your Grand Slam. As you know, quite the investment in time money and energy. You are one of few to achieve this. Only one person in my state has done this( to my knowledge). This was State Senator Charlie Capps ( now deceased) of Cleveland, Mississippi. Wish I had taken the time to see it while attending Delta State College/
University. DSU was a college my first degree and became a University for my last 2 degrees. Did you write of your hunts? I would love to read of your adventures. Your wife is to be commended for allowing you to achieve this also. Usually behind every good man is a good woman- pushing.
Man that’s quite an accomplishment and those are some beautiful sheep!
40 years in the making, way to chase your dreams,
Each of the Rams is an outstanding Ram, And something about the Stones cause me sleepless nights,
Your Stone is one of those Rams…….
Outstanding.
Congratulations! That is fantastic.
My knees hurt just thinking of 87 sheep hunts.
So which one is your favorite?
Why?
How did they taste?
Did one eat better?
Congratulations!
Quite the journey.
Thanks for sharing...
Life is a journey, not a destination. Thank you for taking the time to share about your travels. Salutations.
Congratulations, what great hunts !
Congratulations on a terrific feat of resilience and determination. When people say that back country elk hunting is tough - I say yeah but those sheep hunters are crazy. They’re that alpha dogs of Western hunting. You sir are the alpha dog of that select group.
I’ve always thought I would like to get a Dall sheep, but that Stone sheep is a beauty. Why people chase ugly stuff in Africa and don’t hunt these is always a mystery, with sheep tags so easy to get…
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
