We spotted one the day before that was chasing a big buck, but too far for a real shot. Came back up and more snow had dumped. We'll get out again before the season ends. Good times and good friends.

I have been out mountain lion hunting the past couple weekends just east of Walla Walla in the snow. No lions spotted yet, not even there tracks but I will keep after it, though now that I have seen wolves in the canyon I have been hunting I wonder if the lions will still hunt that canyon.

Merry Christmas to all, Rufous.

Good luck on the cats. Wish there was a hunting season on the big dogs. Have a great Christmas.
Looks like fun. That ridgeline looks familiar

Was up Salt Crick today and didnt see much. Was dragging axle through most of that wet stuff.

Good luck on the bears, The bear sign was thick up around the treeline behind the Rock Arch near the beginning of Conde CR, .... But I cant imagine climbing that hillside with all this snow though.

Rogue,
looks like lots of fun and good hunting to you.
Welcome back, Rogue. You sure got your white Christmas!

We're headed out in the morning. One of the guys spotted another bear yesterday, but I was pretending to be good husband on Christmas Eve and wasn't out with them.

MacRabbit, Recognize that hillside? Looks a little different in the spring.

Sumpin' like this?

In the snow like that, can you drive over the top or do you have to come up from the little river?

Nice shot, that's it.

We came up from the bottom then chained up and went over the top. Shovels, wenches and the chainsaw are sometimes required.

Not really expecting to get anything, but talked my old man (66 years old) into going tomorrow. That old guy is a tag filling machine. Funny thing is he doesn't like bonking bears, but seems to always be in on them.

And thanks to all for the well wishes. It's been great being home and in time for Christmas was all the better. My beautiful bride even gave the green light for a new Christmas rifle. Thinking a low budget 308 tac build.
Two wenches per 5 inches of snow? Do they wear skirts or do you let them wear pants because of the cold?
(And I wouldn't tell that bride of yours that you're taking wenches into the hills!) grin

Are you back for good?

Sorry, that would be winches as in the Warn type.

And yes I'm back for a while, but who really knows. My Brigade is taking off this spring, but I won't be because I just got home. If SHTF they could still take me, but not likely. We where already there during the SHTF time period.
Let's try to get in a day of spring hunting together. Maybe bring your dad if he'll be good luck.
I'll PM when I plan my hunt dates.

That sounds good. Remember the tag this year is over the counter, first come first served. They're on sale now.

Hey John,

Just checked I've still got you #. I'll be back to work on the 5th. We'll meet up for lunch if that's good. I went back and found the photos of your buck. Nice. It's always good to see someone bonking a mature one now and again. I hear it was a pretty tough hunting season over all.
Thanks for mentioning-- I hadn't noticed yet!
Just now bought it.

My license arrived in the mail today. I did that early so that I could check out the new online system before I depend on it near, perhaps, to a drawing deadline.
Rogue

Welcome home!
I know exactly where that picture was taken. I've killed several bucks with both rifle and muzzle loader off that hill and from where the photo was taken. There's a lot of bear in that country.

Driving on the north side of that ridge can be western at times. The snow tends to drift there and never sees the sun.

I hear that the 186th is being activated....again....is that you, too?

The entire 41st is headed out this spring. The boys on my team have their choice whether or not they want to go. NOT, sounds like only one out of the 16 is rolling out. I'm gonna take a break. They are supposed to be headed to Iraq, if they're lucky. They could easiely be diverted. The young guys that haven't fought are all hoping for Afghanistan. Whenever I hear that conversation I tell them to be carefully what they wish for.
