That's just cooler than the other side of the pillow!
Congrads Pete,
Hope you have a great time smacking a hoss.
It still has not sunk in. Best part is that I live in the Unit so in 5 minutes I can be looking for Sheep. I saw a few really nice Rams this winter for this unit I just need to find them early
Congratus and good luck - what a coveted tag. Maybe next year...
You'll find a good one! I drive the canyon quite a bit (for work and fun) and have seen some really nice rams down there. What a fantastic tag, and what a wonderful gift!

Sweet, congrats!
Now get out there and get scouting!
Can't wait to see the pictures on 9/16!
Only a few years ago it was an unlimited area, how things change.
And of course after that it was closed for a while as well. Would love to have the tag though, I see lots of sheep down there these days.
The number of road kill I heard from this winter was 19!

Congrats on the draw. What rifle and cartridge combo you gonna go with?
Nice tag, now you can look forward to a nice Ram and a good hunt.
Good for you.
Thats awesome! When I was checking in my bear at the Bozeman FWP office there were a lot of heads from this years winter and road kill sitting outside. I don't know a whole bunch about bighorns and the difference between monster and average, but some of them looked pretty dang big.
I saw quite a few nice Rams late in the season. The biggest shot last year was 173 I beleive. I think 180 will be a good goal. Its a long season and I live close.

Congrats! I've hunted in that unit quite bit for sheep, back when it was an unlimited unit. It got a little hectic with all the hunters at times but there were always rams to found. We took a high 170's ram out of there in 1997 a few years before they closed the unit. There was a ram with him that would have gone over 180. As far as I know he was never killed and is long gone. There should be some really nice old rams in there.
Pm me and I'll let you know where the ram holes are where I used to hunt....bet there are still rams in those same places now.
Pete_E: Congratulations!
And its close to home for you as well.
Get some scouting in and take your camera - as you probably know, that area 301 is some of the most beautiful country in the world.
I especially like the country between Sphinx Mountain and Shedhorn Mountain.
I wish I could offer you some insights to where the Bighorn Rams are but I have Hunted that area only for Deer, Elk and Spring Bear.
Best of luck to you on the Hunt.
Hold into the wind

Could be wrong but I feel that 90% of the sheep in the unit will be found within a mile or so of the river from the Conoco to the meadows to the north of Deer Creek.
I have a copy of the FWP arial flight from this spring for sheep (and for elk) if you like Pete send me a pm with your email addy and I'll forward it to you.
Dober
(side note, tween Sphinx and Shedhorn is beautiful country but I'd not spend time in it looking for sheep if it were my tag)
Shedhorn is in district 302...
Hence part of the reason I said I wouldn't go there if I had that tag..grin
Dober
Dober, is the Gallatin running high now?
Is a frogz azz water tight...grin
That be a yes!
Dober
Is the House Rock under water?
Not the last time I was over it but haven't been that way for a since the 12th or 13th. Gotta be getting close though.
Dober
Congrats!
That is a beautiful piece of country to hunt.
Was through the canyon wednesday. House rock is still a few feet from being under and there was at least one sheep down on the road that hasn't been hit yet. Congrats on the sheep tag Pete E
I heard there were still a few Rams down at Greek Creek
Turning into a pretty good unit.
