Went turkey hunting this weekend in S. TX.
As usual, always on the look out for hogs.
Found a herd of approx. 40 including lots of football size pigs. First shot (and kill) sent the whole herd running right over the three of us. When the dust cleared,
two were down with buckshot and two with the .243. All approx 80-140 lbs with the biggest a small boar.
BTW, the buckshot was very effective at 20 yards. No blood trail
necessary.
I know threads without photos are worthless, but nothing else in TX compares for me to the rush of a bunch of big pigs headed at you in thick river bottom brush. As luck would have it, I only had my bolt action and scope. Been carrying my .243 auto with 10 shot mag for just such an occasion, but was anticipating a boar or two on this trip. Not a scrambling mass of pork.
Also, killed a major copperhead under the cabin the first night.
Thick weeds from the much needed rain had us very cautious after that in our primitive camp with less than adequate lighting.

No turkeys?

Congrats JCC. Nothing like some pork on the hoof. For me, wild pigs are a honorable big game pursuit.

I've yet to take a porker with my shotgun, but I believe I will give it a go.
