My interest of late has been finding fine rifles.

I have been collecting, tweaking and loading for them for over 60 years! Among others I have a battery of old M70's.

I have had the regular cartridges including the 358 Win. My 'woods' bullet! Also wildcats and so called Improved cartridges for a lifetime.

Of late I have to take what comes cartridge wise when I see a rifle I want. Lately too many have been magnums and I have been shooting a 300 Win. mag, 7mm RM etc quite a bit.

Here is one of the latest; A 7mm RM with 1-12" twist on an FN action. I really like it's stock. It shoots 120 BT's ok and I trying light X bullets also.

Interested in big bore levers.

Been interested in 22CFs lately, especially with hunting bullets for medium sized game. Really looking forward to trying the new 64gr Nolsers in my Pre-64 Swift for deer this fall.

Also enjoying working up loads for my 240Wby and 25-06AI.

Guess overall I'm migrating toward smaller calibers for my deer hunting. My 7mm and above rifles seem to be getting neglected.

Old with new bullets. 22-250, 7X57 and 30-06. Liking the 22-250 with heavy bullets, just not sure what they're good for.

It's been the year of the magnums for me.I bought a 7mm, .300, and a .338. I still want either a .257 or a .264 .

I like nice rifles and don't much care what the chambering is, although it's a bonus to find a good one that can be fed without having to buy a bunch more stuff. For the hunting I do, anything from a .44 carbine on up is plenty of gun and I usually carry something in the .270-.30/06 class. This year, for the first time, I'll be using a .243 during the rifle season, but again it's more about the cute little vintage Sako Forester than the caliber.

For hunting out West (elk/black bear/mulies/speed goats), a 7mm Rem mag, 300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag, preferably out of a Rem M700 or a Win M70 in a McMillan stock with Cerakote on the metal. For hogs/whitetails here in TX, I like me a good old pre 64 Win 1894 in 30WCF and open sights� wood and blued metal obviously�

That's if I'm not hunting with one of my SA big bore revolvers (44 mag/45Colt or 475 Linebaugh)�

I must be getting tired still admire a nice rifle but am getting into the "about anything will do " frame of mind. I have bought only one rifle in the past 4-5 yrs and sort of wish I had not but have acquired 3-4 shotguns that are ones I always sort of wanted but never found at the right price until recently. Handguns are sort of ho hum to me too.

Little dinky cartridges bore the hell out of me. Some guys swear you can shoot the little ones better. I've yet to ever notice the difference of shot placement on game in the field with the magnums. A bang flop is a bang flop, spare me the drama please.. 06 case and larger for me.

The .30-06 turns me on. It seems to do every single thing I ask of it.

As an off-take to my original post it would be "bang-flop".

I usually bring the 270 on my annual pilgramige to moose camp but this year, the Marlin XLR in 45-70 is going instead. Shooting 420gr Garrett Hammerheads and open sights, hope to put a big bull moose and maybe even a grizz down with it.

The best bullet this 1-12" twisted 7mm RM will shoot BC wise is the 120 gr Ballistic Tip. The BC of the 120 is .417.
Somehow I wanted to try a X bullet that might penetrate from more angles than the 120 Nosler.

The 120X is too long and not stable however the 110 gr X bullet going over 3400 fps has shot well. The BC of the 110X is .319.

Today for the second day in a row it put the first two shots from a cold clean barrel touching at 100 yds and then put the next two into 1" at 200 yds and right in the center of the target!

The stock on this custom is superb. What with it's ribbon carving through the checkering. It's action is an FN and it has a 24" barrel. The only takeback is the 1-12 twist. I have plenty of other rifles and was thinking this one would be a varmint rifle.

However now that it shoots X bullets it's more rifle fun!

Same as it has been for 30 years. Remington 700 LH in 30/06 & 180 grain "Core-lokts"-------go elk hunting---have a sharp knife.

Just about all of them still excite me to some degree, but when it comes down to crunch time, one of my .280s generally gets the nod.

Right now...a 30-30 Contender 14". I have three bullet moulds, all on the heavy side, and will likely load up some 175 and 205 fn for plinking, or maybe for shooting a doe. Looking at loading up some soft jacketed 165ish bullets for timber hunting. Have some Speer 165 BTSP that would work at about 2000fps. Planning to pick up some 168 A-max as well and see if I can get them to shoot, also at about 2k. If 1600 is a minimum impact speed, then as far as I can shoot and way beyond is on the table. The A-max will carry 1600 out to 350!

Got to get an optic put on this bad boy, and get to shooting. Will have to get a cheap used optic to start out, because I only have about 100 to spend. An upgrade will have to wait, because I just want to send some lead asap!

I have no [bleep] left to give as far as cartridges go. Bullets have me intrigued, but hunting season rapidly approaching has me more horned up than anything else.

At the moment, .22 Short because that's what Granddad's Model 24 Remington rifle and High Standard Model C pistol are chambered for and both are now sitting in my safe.

Lots of meals put on the table thanks to them over the last 75 (pistol) and 83 (rifle) years.
