Local guy shot a black bear shot a black bear earlier this week. Weighed in at 660 pounds. Sucker looks absolutely HUGE!
Pictures are here:

For crying out loud couldn't they at least contain themselves long enough to wipe the blood off it's mouth? Nobody wants to see that.
Maybe for Montana, but not THE record. Not even close.

nut up.

Yes, Montana.
doesn't have to be the record. still a big bar! wouldn't want to go round with him.
this one has been craping on my shop porch. have apple tree next to the porch.

While I don't like having to agree, I do agree, we should be a bit more careful out in public with pictures that show a bit of gore.
But this wasn't nearly as bad as it could be.
Heck even for pictures of stuff that I want to put on the wall at home, we try to clean em up, stuff the tongue or cut it off etc...
Sometimes it can sure help with the fence sitting folks
In Montana it probably wouldn't offend. But where fireball is, where tons of liberal greenies life in OR, it probably would offend. Of course as many greenies live there, it probably offends em even if clean

Quite a few here care nothing at all about how they appear to the general public, and I'm sure several will be along shortly who will prove that point
What I want to know is how they loaded it up whole, to get it to the scales.
Don't say nothing about skull measurements.
A good sized bear for sure, for Montana a huge bear ,Congrates.....
Don't say nothing about skull measurements.
No worries.
Don't say nothing about skull measurements.
But, but,......it's over 600pounds!!!
The
fat bastard!
BTW, Scott-
Can you picture POW bears with 10 months to feed?
Hint there for others.
http://triblive.com/sports/outdoors...tian-shot-anywhere-believe#axzz3Fn2hzVfeI'm sure somewhere there has been a Bear taken that would be at the top. It just never was scored.
Looks like he may have been head shot. If so, no record books for him. Big assed bear though
What I want to know is how they loaded it up whole, to get it to the scales.
Pretty easy. Tractor with a loader and take it right over to the truck scales which are certified.
Bear was shot after he came out the cornfield of a large local farmer. They are not lacking for tractors on that place.
... a large local farmer.
... a large local farmer.
Yes, but was he a potential record farmer?

That dog is not to happy about that bear...
Deerstalker, that's a funny one. I've never seen one that big hunting or scouting ... maybe I should just start changing your oil!
A Big Idey Ho bear for sure.
What I want to know is how they loaded it up whole, to get it to the scales.
Easy.....a winch and five miles of cable in the back of a truck.
Must have had an uberlanche.

^^^ This! ^^^
Not to say that the bear that started this thread isn't a dandy, especially for Montana.
But I would like to see what one of the north coastal blacks with a hide pushing 8' would weigh if he lived by corn fields all summer.
Did anyone notice that the rifle used was.....a Tikka T3
Corn feeds them up nice, but the northeast corner of Pa. grows some big fat old boars that have good head measurements from dumpsters, landfills and handouts........ 600 lbers. fairly common , 700 lbers not unheard of, and a few 800 lbers for good measure. There is one there that used to wander my old neighborhood close to 900 lbs. big long and as fat as could be. Any bear over 500 is truly awesome, anything bigger regardless of how he got that big is just more awesome!!!!!
For crying out loud couldn't they at least contain themselves long enough to wipe the blood off it's mouth? Nobody wants to see that.
Yeah no kidding. Maybe they could put some coins on it's eyes and put a phoucing dress on it for cripes sake. Nobody wants to see blood on a dead animal.
Be nice to him BGG. He's from Oregon and can't help himself.
I can see the point if it's guts are all blown out and dragging behind it or something. But some blood on the muzzle? Really? Give me a phouking break.
As I said....Oregon......
It weren't me that minds the blood. Make plenty of bloody corpses myself.
What I want to know is how they loaded it up whole, to get it to the scales.
No kidding, the bear hunting in MT must be a lot easier than the places I hunt bears. We can't get 'em out without caping and boning them first! How the heck do you get a truck to a bear?
Did you miss the part about it being in a corn field?
... a large local farmer.
Yes, but was he a potential record farmer?
Actually, he is pretty close. Largest taxpayer here in our district.
Did you miss the part about it being in a corn field?
Yes, I did. Was I supposed to read that attached article or just look at the bear photo with blood all over it?
I need to hunt cornfields again I guess!
Tarkio, is there any chance that you could try to follow up on this over time and post the length of the hide and the skull score measurements? I'm curious as to how these heavy weight bears score. Call it a public service on your part!
There is a disconnect between those who weigh bears and those who measure skulls and squared hides. We have no way of knowing how a 600 lb. bear compares to a 7 footer with a 21 inch skull. A big bear can add easily 100 lbs. or much more of weight between spring and Fall.
It's kinda like: I got a whitetail with 4 inch long hooves.

A Big Idey Ho bear for sure.
she is a fair sized bear for here. largest I have seen taken around here was 475 lbs. with a Thompson center 30-06 pistol.
if you look close at that picture you can see her cub just behind her head. as to the oil change, its my gun shop not auto shop.
As I said....Oregon......
The Portlandians get a little woozy.
Tell him they ran it with hounds and shot it out of a tree, it'll take a double-dose of Midol to cure the cramping and bloating.

Right on the spot....brother
Not to mention a carton of douche and wet wipes to get the sand out of the manginas...

I will try to follow up on what the skull measures.
Thank you! Hope they measure the skull.

WOW!!
this boar came in last night and ran of the sow and cub. this is a #8 bear. his scat pile is as big as my foot a size 8
Dang, I'd like to see him next May! Got skunked in your neck of the woods this year.
saw him this morning standing next to a old log cabin down the road. his back was even with the 4th log. I measured it and it was 40 inches. magnificent bear. kind of red. when I first saw him I thought he was a griz.
the dogs woke us about 4 times last night and there was scat outside the garden gate.

Chances are pretty good that he probably wouldn't be a "north coastal black". lol

That bear is incredible. Can't believe how fat he is.
My supervisor at work lives about 5 miles from where it was shot.
We Montanans are not skeered of a little blood.
That bear is a toad.
Tarkio, do you know if that bear was shot in the Pryor Mtns?
I used to hunt bear in the Pryors, never saw anything close to that size.
WOW! Huge bear, especially for any bear away from the coast. Thanks for posting the follow-up!

This wasn't taken in the Pryors. This bear was shot in the valley out between Huntley and Worden. The bear came out of the corn that they were cutting.
We can see the Pryors from here. I suppose they would be about 50-60 miles as the crow flies.
It's obvious to any experienced hunter that is not a true black bear but a bear/Squatch cross-
Looks like he was beer fed in somebody's backyard.
Gary Alt, then the bear biologist in Pa., told me of a bear that they trapped in the spring, that weighed almost 900lbs....coming out of hibernation.... Which puts it over 1k going into hibernation.
He also said his skull was probably a world record.
He also said he doubted anyone would kill it due to where it lived and how smart it probably was.
To my knowledge, it was never taken.
Bear lived in the bowels of a huge swamp in Pike county Pa.
Fattened up on blueberries....
Tony
The largest black bears in the world reside in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains and their foothills....

Amazing,
I used to live in Huntley, and thats the last place I would have thought to hunt bear. In all the years I lived there never saw a bear in the valley.
It's mostly ag fields and small ranches with the Yellowstone flowing through it.
I guess the bear could have spent his days in the thickets next to the Yellowstone river and marauded the ag fields at night?
That old boy had a good thing going, until he was found out.
It spent its days and nights in corn, until it was being cut.
guy next door to me has 3 mounted over 500lbs. i helped load one that had been gutted . the guy that killed it took the bear and the gut pile and had it weighed . the next day it weighed 702lbs. you know that bear had to loose another 75-100lbs in blood and water..
Damn nice bear!
All fat-bear jokes aside!

Hell yeah it is! That's better than a 1/2" into the all-time records.
