Me and my buddy went out east to fill our antelope tags. Got-r-done. Filled both tags. No photos, but it is hanging in the garage aging now.

6.5 Sportorized Swede, 130 gr Nolser AB. Neck shot, AB did not exit, About 200yards.

Got skunked on the late eastern plains buck deer hunt earlier this week. The whitetails were 100% nocturnal.

Still, two elk and a doe antelope should keep me in meat for ayear.

That's a hell of a season. Never made it to GMU 82 for 4th rifle as that occurred during the November freeze. Weather on either side of the San Juan's was either simply terrible or near lethal. I'm ashamed to say I never left the house.

From June thru ML season I was eating $.99 /pound chicken legs and thighs or $1.99/ pound Chuck steak. That gives a lot of incentive to hunt harder. The only reason I didn't shoot a deer was they were only in the head lights.

Saddlesore- don't feel bad. Your hunting season was longer than mine. Nov 1 I killed a cow and calf caribou. Next day I got an orphan calf caribou and bull moose. All done except 3 weeks of butchering... Also all done now. Ident 100 lbs of moose to my old hunting partner on the Kenai, 50 lbs to a Kotz friend.

I'm keeping the caribou except for a few care pkgs to the boys.

I'm short on hunting time and long on meat. Could be worse!

The AB hit the spine dead center. I wasn't surprised that it didn't exit. I could cut the head off without a saw the spine was so pulverized. I assumed it did not exit as the hide on the opposite side had no holes in it.

Eyeball. Not so good. The whitetails were all nocturnal. They came out past shooting light and high tailed it to cover before shooting light. I saw too shooters, but way to late in the day. Didn't see any muleys. The river bottom that I was going to hunt had been grazed pretty hard so a lot of the cover was gone and where I needed to hunt,I didn't have permission.

Agreed on the nocturnal deer movement. I shot one, but after I snuck up on him sleeping in a cedar row. Very very low deer movement during daylight hours.

That's a great fall, congrats! Those eats will come in handy. I spent quite a bit traveling to hunt this year. My wife didn't mind as much when she saw the current price of burger at the store!

Yep, 550-600 pound feeder calves are bringing $2.90 /pound. That is about $1500 per calf. Ground burger is $3/pound

My 22 cubic foot freezer is 1/2 full of elk meat. Not bad for an old guy that Big Sh&%% said I should not even be hunting and couldn't sneak up on a glass of water.

$3/pound would be cheap around here. If you go with the extra lean stuff it's nudging up to $8/lb! Makes the two elk and 3 deer in the freezer look a lot more appealing.
