Anyone hunted near carthage texas? Going in Feb. Property is bordered by the Sabine river. Mostly wooded with clearings all over for oil wells and a pipeline running through it.

Hoping we have better luck than we had in Crockett the last two years.

Driven through there and hunted just south of there. Lots of trees and water with cypress in places. Lots of hogs in that country.

if private property with feeders, you could be fine.

If other, and no feed to concentrate them, that is big country, and there are not that many hogs.

We hunted public in Crockett a couple of years. Were the only ones we ever talked with, that had seen and shot hogs. IE we saw em and shot, but no one else ever saw pigs.

I think of pigs sort of like elk. In areas, like the Carthage/Crockett area they are around, but not everywhere like Hill Country areas and South Texas... hence if you only have a small place to hunt and not much time, they may be there at times, but not back through for weeks or months.

Same way it is here at home.

How it seemed to me too. We hunted a cotton farm in Crockett 2 years in a row. Along the trinity, half in cotton, other half wooded with pipeline running through. Saw a few but had to hunt hard. Walked many miles a day plus some stand hunting. We killed a few both years but didnt see as many as I expected. Locals kept telling us they were everywhere but we never saw a single hog anywhere when we were driving around. Didnt seem to be as many as people claimed.

IIRC a lot of locals run with dogs, and that means you will find them.

That plus they can shoot em when they see em, don't have to be on a schedule like many have to be.

Land in Dallas at noon Thurs. Renting an RV from cruise america and heading to Carthage til Monday. Looking forward to some porkchops! Landowner said plan on hunting at night. Game cameras are picking up pork from 6:00 pm til midnight mostly. First year on this property, 750 acres, so gonna have to scout hard Fri. to find sign. Got a feeling we wont be getting the deposit back on the RV....... What gets blood, beer and mud outta carpet?

The Sabine River is great for hunting hogs. We have killed a good number down there. With a good effort on 750 acres you should be able to find them, especially if feeders are still running from deer season that ended about a month ago. Good luck!
