Took this young man out this evening. Got a nice bull.
Looks like fun to me!
Details?

The bulls are good eating but the cow nilgai are better eating.
And I thought we were friends.....
Put me down for a cow.
I'm still wanting to shoot one of those things....
Me too. Big time.
Gotta do that next year.
What round and bullet?
How quick did he put that bull down?

Would you believe me if I said we came by your house and honked. You never came out, so we went left. LOL
We loaned him a 30-06 and 165 grain Trophy Bonded bullets. He had a 7mm-08 but all he had was "deer hunting" bullets (forget "Use enough gun", I say "Use enough bullet"). Shot him at about 50 yards and the brush exploded with nilgai running all over. Dropped him in his tracks with a neck shot. He's not a full grown bull, but big enough!
Yeah, seems I read here on the Fire, it's not the headstamp...
I'm thinking 200 gr. NPT/.300 WM. Also, mono-metals seem well suited for Nilgai.
A friend and I hunted Nilgai on the Yturria last Spring. Good eating, for sure.
I'm wanting to shoot a cow, as I'm not interested in a Nilgai trophy, just the meat. He mounted his, looks better than I thought, still not a head I want to mount.

I would have believed you if you hadn't ended it with "LOL".
And that loaner rifle looks like a........"GASP"........Remington.

I guess Nilgai aren't big enough or bad enough critters to demand the use of a CRF...
Seems you can kill one with a push feed...
DF
what's a meat/cow hunt run?
are they about like hunting elk?

It was a concern!
A friend of mine has taken two of them, using a 308 Win.
I have even taken a couple bulls with a .27-caliber rifle. They must have been gay....
I'm interested in cost, too...
Yeah. I expect my hunt to be free.........since we're friends and all.......
Very nice animal! Well done!
Me too. Big time.

Me three. One of the few things I haven't shot here yet.
They're fun to hunt and the meat is about as good as it gets...

They are fun to hunt. I would be up for another next year.
Nilgai are on my short list also,I want to find a Campfire recomended hog hunt first...ScottyO.
Nilgai cutlets for lunch today- Texas style chicken fried, with taters, gravy, and green beans. Hope there's enough left in the freezer to get thru this winter.
Campfire Nilgai hunt? It would be a great excuse to bust out the .35 Whelen.
Congrats on the bull. I want to shoot one of those some day.
Here we go again! Lot's of quick responses with interest.....

Watch the sticky on the Hunter Campfire. When we get back you'll know if its recommended or not....
Thanks Ingwe appreciate the comeback. Will do ...ScottyO.
I'll try to ask around a bit and see what I can find in the way of some group hunts for nilgai. The ranch I am hunting doesn't really sell any hunts because the population is only moderate, unlike the East and King which have large populations. There are a few of us that take some each year as the opportunity presents itself.
Thinking about taking my son to the King next month for Nilgai.
