My buddy and I are looking for a low budget hog hunt. I am open to almost any ideas as long as it doesn't cost a bunch.

We are in Colorado and could drive down to someplace in Texas. I have heard there is not much public land available for hunting which is why so many deer hunters have to lease land to hunt. Is that true?

I have also heard the hogs do so much damage that land owners are willing to let folks hunt them. Is that true?

So, anyway just starting to gather information... suggestions?

There are ranches that buy captured hogs and release them on their places(often not large) for "hunters". I know this place does and at one time I heard it was only 30 acres but heard it's larger now.

Hogs are very nocturnal and unless you're willing to hunt at night can be frustrating. Many landowners use traps to control them.

Texas does have a good bit of public land in east texas open to hog hunting but it's far from an easy hunt even if your familiar with the area. And the public lands usually don't allow night hunting for what's a very nocturnal animal. Unless there are feeders or crops to consistently draw them in the pigs will tend to move a round a good bit so even night hunting can be hit or miss. I've had it were seeing 30 a day was regular and then a few weeks later go a week without seeing any on the same place. If you shop a round you can get a weekend hunt with lodging for $200-$300 (often low fence and not put and take) per person which is probably the way to go if your from out of state and/or have limited time
