Got a photo from my dad this morning. It seems he stepped out just after daylight to let the dog do his business and there was this boar standing out in the field about 200 yards away.



The handiest loaded rifle was an old 7mm-08 788 carbine by the door and the magazine only had two rounds in it. The 120gr Fusion did the job and he made a short sprint over the side of a creekbed a few yards away. Dad grabbed an AR when he went down to check and see if the critter was maybe still kicking down there in the creek. I can't blame him.

Scooped him up with the front loader of the Kubota and hauled him off for coyote bait. This is the second lone boar he's shot from the porch of his house over the last year or so.

Good work! Nice looking hog. The 7mm/08 is a killer for sure.

It is great little cartridge. I think we've used five different bullets from 110 to 145gr over the last few years and all have worked well on deer and hogs. No big surprise there.....

We've got a spot on our place where we take scraps and carcasses. The buzzards and coyotes will clean them up pretty well. A boar that size will usually just be bones and some hide in about 3 days. Deer scraps usually don't make it 24hrs.

If this one had been a sow, we'd have kept it for eating.

Sit on that "spot" and get a few coyotes while your at it?

I'd be eating that dude up... Had some Tx boar meatloaf A1-style by the pool this evening. Damn fine eating!

We thought 'yotes and buzzards were eating the boar carasssas at our deer camp. Some enterprising lad put a camera at the site.

We were amazed to see a group of hogs tearing at those carcassas. Folks don't think of hogs like that, but that camera told the story.
