Looks like a great trip T. Did you have a local guide?
Posted By: pointer Re: amax does it again - 10/20/16
Very nice!! I'm thinking of doing a big game/bird trip next year.
Posted By: Jeff_O Re: amax does it again - 10/20/16
Nice!

They do come apart though. At least the 162/7mm version. Have seen it twice now. Still like them, but use them carefully...

Excellent!!

Good job. I still will NOT use target bullets on game.

Because the hunt is on the rez a guide is required

A dog trainer from Washington has a special agreement to guide on rez

here is web site

http://tuxedokennels.com/

It was a fun hunt and some beautiful country

Will I use "target" bullets in all big game applications? NO

The amax bullet is like any other tool used in the right settings

But having taken over a dozen deer and a few cow elk , 1/2 doz antelope, dozens of coyotes with broad side shots I have had very good success with the amax.

Would I use on a bull elk, cariboo or moose hunt? nope

The guide remarked how the antelope dropped when I hit it.

I just grilled steaks last night and the meat was fantastic. I would say on par with elk I have shot

How fast are you launching the 123 Amax?
Posted By: rost495 Re: amax does it again - 10/21/16
everyone things a bthp type is going to blow up.

Match bullets generally have thicker jackets and as such I'm more worried generally if they will consistenly open, not if they will blow up... I"ve never had a 75 amax in 223 blow up, I"ve never had one fail to open.

I"m convinced they are just fine. As are SMKs.

ribka- Does the hunt portion include dog training? Their website mentions dog training facilities in both OR and MT. If so, I'm thinking I may be interested for next year if I can swing the price. I could use all the dog training help I can get and doing it over/with wild birds would be great.

Bullet was 100 grains when recovered after going through a lot of bone

As mentioned jacket thicker than most expect

Right around 3000 fps with 4350 not hot load

The owner ,Richard , trains dogs out there for a month at a time on wild birds which is a big plus . I received a few pointers to help finish off my young dog

Prices I thought very reasonable for hunt and I don't often use guides

I may have to contact them for next year. Thanks for the info! My just turned 1yo PP and I are heading to NoDak in November for his first sniff of wild birds. I'm guessing we'll have a ton of fun and not shoot a whole lot of birds. laugh
Posted By: ribka Re: amax does it again - 10/21/16
I know Richard likes and trains pp's

I think it is important to get a young dog on as many wild birds as possible when young

I'm heading to ND next week for birds you'll have a good time there

Near impossible here, but we are having fun teaching each other. It'll be interesting to see what he does with wild birds.

Good luck in ND! You're pup is getting quite the education. Well done.
