Took longer then they expected, but it looks as if the deal is now done?

Does anyone think this is good.

From who's standpoint? From BassPro it's great. For folks looking for hunting eqipment it's not. BassPro more fishing and house branded clothing. Cabalas more hunting equipment and name brand cloths.

I buy from Midway still, but I don't from Cabela's/Pro anymore.

Well...once in a while from Cabela's, but have not from BP for about ten years. Cabela's sometimes has oddball ammo or bullets I need and can't get from Larry or from Graf & Sons.
I bought strategically from Cabela's. When you combined sales with promos on top of gift cards, I could usually get things for ~40% off. BUT I had to buy when timing was good. I could never just go get what I wanted when I wanted, other than powder every now and then.
Agree its not good for us consumers.

Whether its good for Bass Pro remains to be seen. It should be, but they may fumble the integration of the two businesses.
Maybe Bass Pro will now figure out how to do mailorder (or will they screw it up like Gander Mountain did?) Bass Pro reminds me of Sportsman's Guide, neither of which I've bought anything from in the past 15 years at least. I imagine this merger/take-over will boost Sportsmans Warehouse a bit.

If you had stock in Cabela's, you probably do. $65.50 per share.
I wish I still had some. I bought when they went public, then watched it steadily decline and didn't have the stomach to hang on to it. I would have almost tripled my money in about 10 years. Darn.
I agree this probably won't be a positive. I just hope it doesn't become a big negative.

I am guessing the share holders are smiling. After all, that is who they work for.
Cabelas is pretty anal at signing up everyone to come in to get a credit card. I see this as a genius move that paid off well. The big stores attract consumers, you give them credit and then not only do you get the instore sales but credit card purchases elsewhere that makes the banks happy.
That is my take on this

I think it sucks.

I've used their stuff for a long time. Alot of it high quality and with their guarantee, its bullet proof. I've also held one of their CC since they started into the CC business. I'm not optimistic BP can do Cabelas as well as Cabelas did. We'll see but likely going to cancel the CC.
I for one will miss Cabelas dearly. Not only are the stores nicer, the employees and the products are superior at Cabelas.

I feel bad for the people in Sidney
I buy a lot from Cabelas, occasionally through the mail, but there are three Cabelas stores less than 75 minutes from me, one is 25 minutes.
Have been in one Bass Pro in last 15 years and thought it was far inferior to Cabelas. And I have not nail ordered from them in at least 10 years.
This is not good for the hunting and fishing public.
I wonder if you can use a BassPro gift card at Cabelas now ? Or vise versa...

Was at a Fields & Stream they took a Dick's Sporting Goods gift card because they are joint companies....

Nope, merger is not done won't be for at least 3 or 4 months, maybe longer.
There is an article in the WSJ this morn saying the FTC is looking hard at this. It won't close real soon.
The article goes on further and says the deal likely will close, but might be late summer or fall.
I was in one of the three Cabelas near me a couple days ago, lots of markdowns and a big crowd at the cash register.
This deal is a disaster for hunters who appreciate quality kit. BP made a decision a long time ago to cater to the "common man," which is fine if you like the crappy gear they market under their own brand. If you don't, you COULD always go to Cabelas where you could find a selection of the higher end stuff.

BP stores are little more than tourist traps these days, and I've all but given up going (unless you need fishing gear... they're great for that).

I have both a Bass Pro and a Cabela's within 30 minutes of the house. I see know way both of these remain open for any length of time. It will be interesting to see which one they allow to remain.
If this happens I wonder what happens to Cabela`s lifetime warranty on their products?
