Wife and I have a 9 hour layover in Dubai on our return trip from RSA this May. Are there any suggestions for a place to shack up and shower?

It sounds like I might be in the same place. Return trip in early June flight scheduled got canceled and my travel agent is re-booking flights.
Go to trip advisor and you will find many places to stay.
We were in Abu Dhabi for two weeks in 2015 and spent a day in Dubai.
As a frequent long distance traveler, I would recommend you book one of the hotels in the airport terminal. You will loose 4 hours travel and security leaving and returning to the international terminal. Makes for a short night.
