Last week my wife made a chiropractor appointment and within an hour, her facebook page was filled with ads for bone crackers.
Good luck.

Well, imagine trying to keep every damn geek at the NSA and all their gizmos from watching you in real time on the net, and see what you think. I don't trust a damn thing...
Anything that use the term SMART, replace it with the term SPY. This goes for everything from Smart Phones to Smart meters.
Search engines that are recommended, but not necessarily private are: 1. Duck duck go 2. Katherine Albrecht's search engine IF she still recommends it. I haven't talked to her for years, but I think she mentions it in this seminar. She did her masters and doctoral thesis on privacy issues and started an organization called CASPIAN. Look her up and you can get lots of answers from her materials. Privacy is multi-tiered. Keep in mind that she was teaching this at major seminars around the country around 20 years ago. What she shares has come to pass except for the timing of the "Certification"Mark as bill gates calls it.
Mike, a VPN is an encrypted tunnel across the Internet from your computer to the VPN server. Your Internet Service Provider and other snoopers in your area would be unable to see your traffic. The Opera browser has a built-in VPN if you're interested in looking at it. It's also one of the fastest browsers available and has a built-in ad blocker as well.

A good start is not having a Gmail account and using Google for searches. I use DuckDuckGo on my iPhone and Macbook. Pretty much any really good anti virus package(not really needed anyway with Windows 10) will have a VPN.

Does it have spellcheck too?
Asking for the members.
LOL, I just reread my post three times for very obvious misspellings.

While a VPN may help keep identity thieves from getting your information or whatever, I'd be about willing to bet that a VPN offers no resistance for the us Government.

That's not the point, the best people in the US government couldn't unlock the phone.
They had to take Apple to court to get the information from the phone.

They can now.
Depends on the iOS and the password. The FBI paid $900,000 to unlock the San Bernardino iPhone. GreyKey has been used in the past but has not kept up with new iOS updates.

A VPN is not an end to end encryption to the destination web site. Only to the VPN server. It offer an encrypted tunnel so your Internet Service provider cannot observe your activities and protects you from eavesdropping in your local subnet (such as free hotspot as at a restaurant).
