Has anyone hunted hogs in Hawaii?
Posted By: MM879 Re: Hawaii - 02/28/21
Only on the beaches.

Yes

A good friend of mine has hunted hogs and other species on the big island several times. He has had nothing but good to say about it.

Does your friend have a name of an outfitter that he would recommend?

If Judman doesn't chime in, you may want message him. I believe he's hunted Hawaii for various species.

Do you have to buy a Federal Stamp for the hunt.

Contact "judman" on here. He's done a bunch of hunting over there.

HI still has a required 2 week quarantine for non-residents. I'm told, though, that a negative test within 72 hrs of landing will satisfy it.

We were there just after X-mas. Having done our due-diligence on this end, we were waved straight thru to baggage. Those that hadn't were sent to the showers. Or someplace.

Want to go to big Island just don't want to go through contact monitoring and restricted for what I am paying to play. Buddy got turned around because his Covid test here in Alaska was not in-network with Hawaii. Have to disclose where you are staying, cost, and too many? So we are staying in Alaska first winter in 9 years.

On the Big Island at Waimea get a hold of this gun shop very helpful when we were there this time of year a Pig Tournament N of Hilo was happening mostly locals was neat to see.

No but if you bag the wrong one you get a restraining order.

Love my hunting,

But not while in Hawaii,

way too much other cool stuff to do.

Hunted turkeys on the big island and crossed paths with hogs on occasion. Public land.

What island are you planning to visit / hunt?

Non resident is $95 or $105 + $10 conservation tag. You don't need an outfitter just a good gps with something like onxmaps or basemaps.

Judman told me that Kuaui was the best place to go.

IIRC, Molokai and Lanai can be hunted successfully, also.

Look on pages 39-46 for Kauai. Plenty choices to and hike / hunt in. Some units you can hunt daily, other units are weekends and holidays only. Certain units also have no bag limits. Lots of choices. Be prepared we have big mountains too on the islands.

Next time I go to Kauai, I'll take a shotgun. Chicken hunting there must be fantastic. Fugars are everywhere!

Would not want to jump through Hawaii rules to bring a firearm there

Last year I was diving off Maui, the captain said the pigs were about wiped out on Molokai. Deer hunting was good, but they have had a big drought that wiped a bunch of deer out the last few months. He recommended a guide to get access to private property for axis deer, I guess the locals hit the public land pretty hard, so you have to work pretty hard for public land deer and goats.

Spent 3 years stationed there. Hunted hogs on both Oahu and Maui. Hunted them the traditional local way with dogs and a knife. Also hunted birds there, Mouflon Sheep on Lanai and Axis deer. There is some surprisingly good hunting on the islands but if you are a tourist it will be hard to get into it. Took me more than a year to get into the good graces of some locals.

Why in the hell would you waste your time and money to hunt hogs on a island when you can kill all you want in the states for free?
Posted By: IdahoRoger Re: Hawaii - 03/03/21
I was thinking about taking a vacation with my woman and combining that with hunting. I think it would be much better to do that in the states, at least I can drive and have some freedom. Besides with the covid crap it would be much safer.

GRF hunted hogs on Hawaii, I believe with dogs and they knifed them. IIRC, it was with Hawaii Safaris.
