Me:

I was with Northern_Dave a couple months after we had tragically lost a mutual best friend. I believe I was talking about AT (the big archery forum).

He said "hey, since you're a Forum guy, you should check out my thread I started (Birth of a Deer Camp) about our cabin that we are building, on 24hourcampfire.com.

I checked it out and the rest is history.

So how did you discover this awesome, albeit, highly dysfunctional, place? lol

I needed info on my Savage 99

This place was like ground zero for Savage 99 people
Fire member SpecialK
I guess it was 10-11 years ago that I wasn’t seeing any of Mule Deer’s writings in Handloader and Rifle so I did a search and sure enough he was here on the ‘Fire.
Shooters.com was going toes-up in early 2002. A bunch of guys said they were going to this new forum called 24hourcampfire.com. I followed.
Don’t remember.

Was here under 1 name. Lost/forgot my sign on and started over with this. I had signed up Jan 1 2003. Fairly early.
I don't remember. My guess is I googled something I wanted to find out about and this popped up.
I was searching for porn sites...

Same here. Websearch for 99 info turns up this place left and right. Started lurking 5-ish years ago for assorted info when I started getting into 99s, but just finally joined last month.

Google most anything gun and shooting related would lead me to the Fire.

Read threads for several years, laughed and learned.

I hit semi retirement and decided to kick Flave in the nuts for a pastime.

No regrets...Love this evil place.

🖕🏾🦫😝
I found it in 02 or 03 when I was Googling something about handloads. I was a lurker for a while and eventually joined up. First online forum I ever signed up for. Cost me a lot of money over the years!
I was searching for a remedy for swamp ass and this is the only place that popped up.
I can’t remember, I believe it was my BIL.
I shoot in a smallbore league in winter. Guys there said look it up.
I was googling something, ran across a thread on the subject. You can google almost anything, put Campfire at the end, some old thread will come up, all still available to comment on. Aggravates the cshit out of some when I do that.

Weird, I was looking for a recipe for camel toe soup.

Pretty funny. Me too. And now it's been years since I've looked into that particular forum.
The old Shooters site was imploding with their policies and heavy-handed moderating. RickBin was actively promoting this place over on the Shooter's site (which I think got him banned), but I joined up here, because I could see the handwriting on the wall. This site was virtually empty, except for Rick and his dad (CritrGetter or some handle like that). Another member, Echo4Echo, later E4E, and I started encouraging folks to register here. You'll see a lot of folks joined here in January and February of 2001. That was the core group that made "the exodus" and stayed here.

I've been here ever since.
A friend recommended it to me way back in 2002.
I came here because of multiple mentions by JB in his writings.
Rick invited us during the shooter.com implosion

now if I could just find the campfire equivalent for a K31
Was googling general info on 9.3 x 62. Brought me right here.
dog park conversation with a member
I think folks drifted over from the HuntAmerica forums.

I was googling something gun related and turned up some campfire threads. Started reading and found a ton of knowledge here. Also became apparent that you can’t have thin skin here.

This, joined due to Waders' recommendation.
Recommended to me by a friend who's handle is Redgun.
Researching a Savage 99 EG in 250-3000 I had just bought.

Trollers are wearing thin on my nerves otherwise the place is a lot of fun to talk and share hunts, photos, and information. Have learned alot and hopefully the posts of hunts I contribute are fun for some.
See my "handle" !
I was looking for some info on a .280 Rem Mountain Rifle.
Searching for information on Winchester 94's and this sight popped up. Most expensive click bait todate 😂 love how you can speak your mind even if not politically correct 👍 not everyone shares the same views but at least in this day and age there is still one website that allows for everyone's opinion 🏆
Slumlord bugged me to join after I lost my job as a public relations specialist on TnDeer.
Said he had a job for me on here doing the same thing.

👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙🤑🤑🤑
Looking for info on 25-20 and .256WinMag loads most likely.

And you '99s folks, thanks............................for getting the prices up so high. whistle
I saw it when it first started, It was very small for quite a while and what gave it a big boost was a very active guns forum called shooters.com collapsed and heaps of blokes at shooters.com came to 24hour

I found it through Archery Talk as well.
I came across the acronym "BBC" somewhere, and I though it meant Big Boobied Cougars. I wasn't entirely sure so I Googled it, and here I am.

I try to avoid google but Duck Duck Go shows The Pallet Club thread when searching chicken gulag.

I lurked here for several years before joining. Was pretty invested in another forum for several years but with the advent of Trump I was insulted and ridiculed for being conservative, got fed up and quit that liberal schithole and ended up here amongst my fellow right-wing cranky old guy peers.

Much happier here.

I was wondering and Googled “what is normal life like in Tennessee” And I learned enough to stay away.

No really. I was googling some hunting or reloading info.
I was dreaming about hunting moose near Wabigoon, and wondered if a .308 was enough rifle.
Migration when Shooters went down back in 01.

How exactly does an internet forum collapse? Was anyone pinned in the rubble?

Sounds horrific. *pears sent
It all started when Rick and I talked about our own forum and I gave him all the ideas and my blessing and he went for it, but he refused to name it after me.

Honest injun. grin
Every time I went down a rabbit hole on something gun related I ended up here. Slum is the reason I stuck around. Crap stirrer extraordinaire, Rick flair avatar, & a TN boy. Figured out the rest of yall were equally retarded and I knew I'd fit in.
no ones made a joke about .270 and homosexuals yet?

Speak for yersel...wait... what?

SQUIRREL!
I used to hang out a lot on MarlinOwners. Found The 'Fire through a browser search and lurked for a bit with no account. It got me interested in knowing more about the firearms I owned or lusted after. Then MO got all pizzy and started in with the rules BS and I actually got suspended for some petty crime in the classifieds. Said F this and closed my MO account. Been a regular at The 'Fire for a bit. No regrets....yet.
Mine was the big bore section. Was looking into a 458 lott and found some useful info. Crazy how long its been
Once when my daughter was about 4, she farted in the bathtub and it made a hilarious sound. After we laughed for about 5 minutes, she told me she was making Hot Louie Soup and we laughed for another 5 minutes... wait... what was the question again?
I was online looking for info on hunting rifles and the Fire kept popping up. I lurked for a few months then joined up.
Some of the guys on Coyote Gods (defunct coyote hunting website) said they were going here from Shooters.com
I saw it mentioned on ShortMags and have been hooked and eavesdropping ever since. Really enjoy it

Same here, was looking for info on Savage 99 back in 2005 and found this place.
I was having a reloading problem and looking for a forum where someone might help me. Stumbled on this place, asked my question, and 5 or 6 members helped me right away. Decided to check the place out a little more and hung around.
I was praying for divine guidance and heavenly angels swept down and showed me the way here.
I don’t remember what brought me here anymore a search for something or other no doubt. I had an account at least 10 years ago screen name Mittenman that I occasionally posted under I lost the passcode to it and the never used email account that was linked to it so after a year or so of reading threads I made a new account so I could start posting again.

The lack of moderators filtering what I can say or what others say has been the single biggest factor in keeping me around.

Too funny - 2nd post, same exact answer for myself. I was always active on an ice fishing forum that has a large devoted following in my area, and I frequented the S&W forums for awhile as I am a fan of the revolvers. Bought my first savage 99 and had some questions; the folks on the S&W forum were quick to point me here. First, I laughed. Then I cried. Then I shat my pants. I only ever visit the ice fishing forum anymore. And that, sparsely. It’s too moderated. This is my kinda joint.
I was looking for some scope reviews. Don't remember for which scope, exactly. Either way, lurked for months, maybe years, 'fore signing up.

Anymore the Optics forum is just a dumpster fire.

What shaman and a few others noted. Shooters was going to hell and many of us left there for here. But don't blame me for bringing Big Stick along in that migration.

Ditto. I’ve reminded Rick of that when he got all high and mighty with someone promoting other websites. To his credit, he took that reminder like a man.

I hung around AT for a bit. I spent a lot of time on HPA (HuntingPA) and found this thru that forum. The lack of moderation is what brought me here. Then HPA changed their layout so with the freedom here and the fact that I liked the setup I gave up there and came here. Mucho better

My initial exploration/experience was that the Hunting Rifle forum was the worst of it. Stick. The back and forth. Myyy effing Lorrrd; the trash being slung was …. Beyond remarkable. Pushing intolerable. But, i kept looking around. There’s a wealth of knowledge here. AND fun, to be had.

I can’t remember back that far.
I googled right wing, racist, anti - LGBTQ hate group that likes pissin matches, guns, ammo, and shooting.

Nothing came up so I came here instead.
Over the years I’ve looked for shooting sites. I found this one and really enjoy many of the sub forums. Like Mule Deer and many of the other writ posts. The general forum is where I post mostly.
We’ve got to stick together.

birds of a feather............
I believe ratsmacker directed me here some years ago.
I was in a very dark place spiritually. By blood, I am a Jew, but Judaism had let me down. The prohibition on eating bacon or cheeseburgers weighed heavily, and the scorn I faced for being an adherent of a gutter religion had me close to the point of no return. I actually had gone to the Middle East to seek answers, first praying at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, then the Dome of the Rock a few hundred yards away, but that just made me more disgusted with myself.

As I was wandering morosely through the stations of the cross, looking for a sweaty arab in an overcoat in July, a man, no, a myth approached me and said that what I was looking for was in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I snapped back that the last time I fell for one of those religious glory hole scams I needed several courses of antibiotics, but the kind gentleman said "My son, the Deacon will show you the error of your ways. Go to Him."

I went into the church and it was unusually quiet. I heard what wounded like a beer can being cracked open and a shadowy figure in a Chicago Bears cap whispered to me...."www.24hourcampfire.com, you hooked nosed pile of garbage. Don't bother thanking me, just GFY".

I thought GFY stood for Go Find Yourself, and I was sold.

And the rest is history.
I can’t remember 20 minutes ago- much less 20 years ago.
Was searching for a book title and google took me to the classifieds. Never had a deal go bad here.
Reloading. There has always been good information here. There is a lot more misinformation to filter now

I was given a Savage 99E in 243 and while looking up info on the model, I came across the Savage Collectors forum.

Side note:
The classifieds used to be awesome for buying and selling. It’s still ok, but not like anything close like it once was.
Remsen, that post reminded me of something from the late 80s. Buddy remarried and picked a Jewish school marm for wife #2. Or she picked him, forget?

He had a few acres out in the sticks, old farmhouse, and small barn., Raised a coupla pigs each year.

New wife wanted a better kitchen, so helped remodel it. One day in conversation, she told me she was Jewish. Asked how she liked Ron raising hogs. Laughed, said her dad and uncle loved the bacon, hams and pork chops. One day the old boys showed up to see how the kitchen was coming, went out to the barn to look in on the pigs.

When I said I'd heard they liked the bacon, one asked if I was a Rabbi, come to check on them.

Was invited to join by a friend. I came here first to see what he had to say but had to join to search his posts. So I joined and joined in a few discussions becoming addicted over time. Now my main mission here is trying to save souls but they are quite resistant. Neither the atheists or the bible thumpers will budge. I like the political discussions but I am amazed that some of us are still optimistic.

Not to mention the music threads?
I was searching the internet for Meopta Scope Reviews and found this place and Cameraland where i bought my Meopta Scope.
I was tired of crappy scope tracking reviews on Youtube.

Gold!

Yes, his people know about gold.
Nursekat and houndgirl enticed me to join with promises of lots of fun. laugh

Not to mention the music threads?

Almost forgot to mention ....
one of my favorites are big schtik reviews on anything.

Second coming of Shakespeare
Had seen it in search results before... Just like the High Road, TN Deer, CalGuns, 6BR, and a bunch of other utter bullchit sites. Then came to find the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 that was going to change my life.... God, I was so paranoid sending $510 to some stranger!

Heard about 24 Hour from Waders. I was disgusted with Shooters and moved here with the best of the posters from over there. Never looked back.

I would read stories on Shooters, it went tits up. I kind of gave up on forums. Until one day I was searching for something, and I found this place.
I'm sure glad I did. I really enjoy reading this and that on here.

Wishing y'all the best.
Someone on AR told me after Saeed and Don showed their true leanings.
I was hired by the CIA for a hit job, and needed a scope for the throw away pistol, so I came here looking for a Leupold. A member was kind enough to give me a lead where I was able to buy a throw away Leupold too, knowing it wouldn’t be a great loss.

The job was cancelled, and I still have the throw away Leupold and pistol.

Maybe I’ll go kill an elk with it one day.

I did a search on google asking what site had the most ignorant imbecilic pack of inbred arrogant racists on the internet...it sent me to the democratic underground...so I came here instead.

Because not as many of their members post here.
Looking for Sav 99 info.
The 'Fire was referenced on some knife site.
Muledeer mentioned it in his writings in rifle/handloader magazine. The was the beginning of the end for me.
I was trying to get in touch with somebody (don't remember who, anymore) on Predatormasters, and was told to look on the 'fire.
Lurked for a few days, and joined.
Went to the last Sierra Vista shindig, met crossfireoops, Ken Howell, CCCC, krp, and many more ftf, and never looked back.
This place is full of great folks, and deep BS. smile smile smile
Was reading a post on longrangehunting.com that had a link to 24HCF for some info I was looking for.
I was on the old NWTF forum and some guys were giving me a ration of crap on a rifle and shooting thread saying I didn't know what I was talking about. Some fellow realized I did and sent me a PM about the Fire and I joined up. But folks bitch here just as much here these days as they did on the NWTF forum back in the day.
Frankly, I don't remember how I heard about the camp fire. Best guess was someone mentioned it on another site I was on so came over and took a look. Liked what I saw and joined.

Looking for load data

Several of us moved here from Shooters Forum, I think now deceased, when it was heavily monitored by the PC Police. As you can see by my “made on date”, I’ve been here a while! ! memtb
My BFF had been a member, and saw me looking at the HighRoad (which sucked, giant sweaty balls). I didn't know this place existed till he told me about it. Can't believe it's been 13 years sharing info, bs'ing, and arguing on here lol.

At the time I didn't have much time to waste on the 'net. Had been a member at six-guns.com which was really neat, but seemed like it folded.
Read about it on Rifle Looney News.
Old Cuss
I was constantly googling stuff about rifles and handloads. This site always popped up in my search and I started reading. I joined about 3 years later.
I was surfing the web and found this in the classifieds...I AM LOOKING FOR A BROWNING B92 IN .357 MAGNUM..... I had one and sold it to him !
One of Rick's talent scouts recruited me.
Had had it with Walterhogg over on Accurate Reloading.....

was told about this site by someone locally, and have been here ever since...

Knew a batch of folks from AR I found over here, so knew it would past muster...

Digital Dan and GeeDubya were two of my AR Acquaintances.

I do miss a bunch of the guys I got to know from my early days, the ones who left when all the BS started flowing..
particularly the trolls....
Trying to remember....seems like started over at Swamps or Hunttalk or huntamerica which imploded after a while and everyone came over here.

Seems like someone posted pics of thier junk in a pan, then a guide on there got busted or arrested or in a fight with one of his guides. its all kinda foggy.
I subscribed to Varmint Hunter and always loved Steve Timm’s articles. Found he was here and joined in 2004 I believe.
Googled info on Savage 1899/99's.
MuleDeer
Can't remember exactly, but pretty certain I found the classifieds first.

I was looking information on Savage 1899/ 99's and google helped me end up here. GW
Someone wrote it on a bath room stall in Kansas City
“for a good time go to 24hourcampfire “
I was searching around for information on reloading and a bunch of friendly knowledgeable people helped me out.
I was looking for info on a Savage 99 and just never left...............
Mule Deer in his articles, GG books and Rifle Loony News
I was googling boomers that have never ate a mcrib
I was googling who the f u c k would eat a greasy Mcrib... it showed this site and a gay porn site...

Kent
JB mentioned it back in 2006 in something he wrote for some publication that I can't recall. Been here ever since.
I was on Hunt America.com and was sent here for info on a savage 99
I believe it was BC30cal that mentioned it.
It was the JB connection that made me curious.
I used to post on the chainsaw forum of Arboristsite twenty years ago, which at the time was a virtual wild wild west, with Friday night drunkfest online fistfights over square filing, saw modding, and other assorted matters. It was a hell of a lot of fun. I think it ended up with new owners, a new look, and no more fun. I stumbled onto this place looking for loading information some years back, and finally decided to join. The freedom here is needed, especially with the current regime we get to stare at every day.
Was invited by badger and BW during the Shooters fallout way back when, was some 20+ years ago, back when most here had some class. Even in the classifieds, if a person sent a PM to seller asking a question, everyone else would wait until that person got his answer and decided if he wanted it or not. And the seller would do his best to follow some basic curtesy...

Phil
I was researching Barrett Fieldcraft. Most useful discussions are from 24hourcampfire
I believe I typed in a search for "forum for [bleep] who hunt" in a search engine called Metacrawler (way before Google existed, I believe).
I googled what site has the most people claiming to start a civil war and it sent me to the campfire!
I was on Shooters for a while before it became a Nazi control camp and got fed up with the BS... used to BS with Rick Bin on that site once in a while and thought he was a pretty stand up guy with similar values. When he started up over here he PM'd me about the time Waders and a bunch of others joined and I dropped everything at the Shooters circus and moved over here....
Lots of the old guys who were very classy guys are gone now- in one fashion or another, but had some very good friends on here. Boggy Creek Ranger was one of the best old gentlemen ever and I regret never getting to meet him in person.. I have met and made some very good friends on this site and still hunt with a couple of them- Silver Bullet and Spike...
I won't say I was happy Shooters went down- I was hoping somebody with some sense would take it over and revive it so it could be what it should have been- but I also don't miss it either since it went down in flames...
Was a regular reader on benchrest.com and kinda found out about it from micky Colman and just stayed

[bleep] you Phil.
I was looking up some scope info and it led me here.
Fellow Forum Folks;
Good evening all, thanks for the replies and the interesting reading contained within them.

It was a John Barsness article for me, likely either Rifle or Handloader back then.

All the best to one and all in your hunts this fall.

Dwayne
I was searching Savage 99 info, and it lead me to you bunch of crotchety old geezers.
20 years ago, I ran into JJHACK on another forum and followed him here.

Time flies.

Okie John
Bump for 3rd shift guys.
I honestly can't remember.

I came here from the old "shooters" forum.

Big Stick told me about this place!

Virgil B.
I joined the Campfire because I follow the wisdom of crowds:

'Stand Up And Be Herd!'
Was search for a hunting forum and stumble on the 24hrs. Love it here.
I read the Shooters forum and along with several others, I moved and started reading this forum. Lurked quite a while before I joined.

JJHack, Waders, E4E, Big Stick-and lots of others. I honestly learned a lot from this forum, it used to focus a little more on hunting/shooting.
I am also a Shooters alum…
I became interested in Elk Hunting started surfing the web for information, ran across story after story of an Elk hunting legend that went by the name of elkslayer91, I found the 24hr Campfire and learned that the legend was all lies and half truths and the infamous elkslayer91 was just a Cockwomble.
I was looking for info about a Colt New Frontier .22 i had bought .
Back in the early 2000’s looking for Mauser information.
Surfing the net and likely searching for a specific answer and someone likely mentioned trying 24HCF.
That was then and this is now some 14 years later.

<AND>

<YES>

I have found many opinions and some answers here since.

Just what ya want from a good forum.
Met Huntsonora on a Mule Deer Bow Hunt in Colorado.
He recommended it.

For everybody saying how this place has gone downhill, you do realize there are other forums below the freakshow that stay pretty civil and on topic? Or you just like to virtue signal because somebody called your bullshidt bullshidt on the open discussion up top?
LOL
The kifaru forum I think. Does that even exist anymore.

Poor little BoobyBrown. Your fascination with me only shows what a truly cowardly little POS you really are.
But of course, everyone here already knows that.
Must suck to be you, little man. Carry on Loser.
A friend of mine from work (we both worked at the same gun shop on Long Island) was in on starting a shooting related website and he invited me to join. RifleShooter, or something like that. I heard lots of people talking there about 24hourcampfire, and checked it out.

I sense toxicity and vitriol

LOL
WHOOPSIE
Looks like I registered in 2004, but truth be told I do not remember that. I do remember the late 90s when I finally began playing around on the web a little, and could barely use a search engine and find sites of interest. If my memory is working correctly I recall finding 24hcf at some point and exploring it a bit, but being put off because the format was not like the one we are using now. I didn't like the layout and didn't spend much time here...I just don't recall when the current bulletin board format came along and I got a little more active.
