What is the man's political position? I haven't followed him much until lately...my first impression, which is obviously cloudy, would be that he is a lefty...not so sure now.

My second thought being that if he accomplishes what he appears to have set out to do, does it really matter?
Seems like a guy who knows what is right.
Don't really care as long as he keeps doing what is the right thing to do.

Why does everything have to be left or right?IF it is the right thing to do.
He strikes me as a small “l” libertarian. That is one in practice or moral and philosophical alignment without being politically aligned to the party.
He has donated to both parties—has no idea how much and said so under oath
He doesn’t fit either mold as don’t many of us. The democrats and republicans are virtually the same.

An opportunist... goes where it benefits him, AKA a Rogue... that's why the left hates him, only people who fall in lockstep with the current, yet constantly changing narrative are supported by the hivemind. I'm not a fanboi, but I don't hate him either.

what did amy barret cohen or brett kavanott do recently in the SC that you would consider conservative or beneficial to our Country..?
He’s an inventor and businessman. I don’t think he’s a politician at all. I think BALLISTIK is pretty close…an opportunist.
Big leftist. But he's got f-me money, so could be powerful.

I think he’s moving that way as he is getting older, as many people do.

The left/right spectrum doesn't exist, it's just used to pit the masses against each other. The scale is really authoritarian vs. anarchy. Republicans and Democrats are somewhere in the middle between authoritarian and anarchy with the Democrats tending more towards the authoritarian end. However, the Republicans are fully capable of using force and financial coercion to make you comply with government mandates themselves. The two parties differ in what they prioritize to screw with you over, but in the end they're more alike than not.

I agree with Teal, Must strikes me as somewhat libertarian. However, he's shown that he's more than willing to use government to further his business so I'm not even sure that applies to him.
I think he leans to the Libertarian side of things, especially when it comes to free speech which I believe is whats behind his interest in buying Twitter.
Most of the people here wouldn't be able to understand his political views partly because you all think in simple terms of left to right. Political views are really better described in terms of quadrants.

The other reason is you'd need to have read some utopian philosophy, along the lines of Consider Phlebas by Iain Banks, and there is a roughly 0% chance very many of you would read a whole book. The guy is a utopian socialist at worst. National Socialist at best, but he couldn't turn over that card maybe ever.

Trump didn’t fit either political mold, himself .

Opportunist are at least predictable. It’s folks who can’t be motivated by sex or money that are the most dangerous.
Anyone pissing off the left is good in my book. The guys more intelligent than can be comprehended.

Agreed.

Neither republicans or democrats own free speech.
I'd hate to opine about his politics. I know his industry has benefitted from a lot of government subsidies. Apparently, he has a good business mind. His Twitter takeover has been talked about a lot but I can't say I know what his thoughts are on it. If he could take it over and reform it to a honest transparent platform it would be wonderful. I never got on Twitter. I was only on FB for a short time and got kicked off for my opinions. They say I don't fit in their community. I left and never looked back. I thought it was a good platform to find out my friends and relatives birthdays. Too many to remember. The election and what was done with Google, FB and Twitter plus the major news outlets have left a bad taste. We need to have a great reorganization of our Government and the people that protect the corruption.

We all can't be as smart as you, so we do what we can in our simple-mindedness. Sorry.

Wrong. The left loved him for making electric cars.

Strangely, the puppetmasters have had Biden snub him. Maybe they fea...,uh, know something about him we are just finding out. whistle
As far as African Americans go he's pretty good.
Question: What good is a genius mind in a world run and controlled by communists, where a Bakers son who is a genius will be limited to become a Baker?

Who thinks he is a genius and doesnt know the value of freedom?

There is panic in DC.

And Musk knows that cant happen without freedom of speech in the public thoroughfare.
I'd call him "normal".

Edit: With a ton of money.

Perfect answer!!!
Question: Elon Musk, Left, Right or Middle?

Answer: Rich beyond the ordinary person's imagination, so much so that those classifications won't, and can't, fit him in any normal sense of the word.
He's a centrist libertarian.
athiest and libertarian.

libertarians have a similarity with conservatives/republicans in that (in theory) they want the government out of our personal lives (small federal government). Personal freedom. live and let live.

or I may be wrong.
Is it a absolute must that everyone be categorized?

Is one not allowed to be viewed or judged by their own unique personality and acts?

Well said.
Where does opportunist fall on the political spectrum?
Musk is in it for the money

He is now using that money to make changes and to gain power.

Hopefully he will use both to MAGA.

Like Trump, he cannot be bought by sleazy lobbyists and corrupt politicians. In fact it is Musk, that can buy them.

We will see how this plays out, but as of today, the Left is having Musk-Meltdown, which can’t be all bad.

There’s only 2 that have any Allegiance to the Constitution..
The others are Harvard and Yale Type Bolsheviks..
I don't know. It seems we only want people who agree with us 100% of the time. That's never going to happen. I suspect he's libertarian. Anyone who supports free speech across the board is going to get a significant amount of support. If that's what he is doing with Twitter, I say "have at it" and Godspeed. He got a very large "attaboy! from me and gained a lot of my respect when he said: "At its heart, wokeness is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful. It basically gives mean people a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.” I don't know if he was shooting from the hip when he said that; but, it is spot-on and about the best description I've ever head of "wokeness".

I can think of no better way of ensuring a Biden second term than Trump doing that.
In the beginning I'll admit that I thought he was a con-man. The more I listen to him, the better I like him.

Every living organism is an opportunist. It has nothing to do with politics.
Elon's views on free speech may lead to world war three and the destruction of our planet.

In no way shape or form is Trump a libertarian.
Not even close
He seems to be the only person in America with the ability to break up Big Tech's liberal woke monopoly. I have listened to two of his three hour podcasts with Joe Rogan and have seen enough to know that he does not fit neatly into any political category. He does not seem to be driven by money, although he has an incredible talent for making it. His passion seems to lie in the advancement of technology and human flourishing. He is a free thinker that won't be bound by the latest leftist woke religious dogma. This is why the left now hates him. He is an apostate to them.

Answer to your first question:

YES, this is the 24hr Campfire dude. We must categorize everyone, and everything they say, so we know where they stand. Otherwise, how would we know who to post mean replies to?
He's Left but he's one of the 1% of the Left that actually values freedom and sees what the Democrats are doing to the country.

What a bunch of hyperventilating drama queens ! It’s hard to imagine being that un self aware.
Good for Elon supporting Ukraine with Star Link internet. shocked

Orcs can't stop the signal.

Who isn’t? He has more money now than he could possibly spend so I don’t think your blanket statement holds true now. He is an inventor like Alexander Bell, Nicky Tesla, Henry Ford, etc. Money is not the definitive incentive for someone with Asperger’s. Often they HAVE a compelling need to figure out an abstract idea and can’t rest until they have.

Money is the motivation for most. I assume that the restaurants that you ran successfully throughout the years was done for money and not as a non-profit. Money being the motivation is what made this the best country in the world because it fosters a competitive environment.

Musk said that he doesn’t care about the economics of his Twitter purchase and why should he? He can spend $50billion and still have $200 billion leftover. It’ll take him less than a year to recoup $50 billion….chump change to him.

If it wasn’t for his Space X brainchild NASA would still be stuck in 1980 with their overpriced, unimaginative boondoggles. It takes the private sector to innovate, invent and improve….something that the government is wholly incapable of doing.

Maybe but he’s South African so I think Patriot is not the correct term. He isn’t doing this to foster free speech for America he’s doing this to foster free speech around the world.

I generally like Musk but like everyone else I don’t always agree with him on everything nor do I have to. I think Musk is far far far better ally than Gates, Zuckerbergjew, Bezos, etc.

A friend of mine finished aeronautical engineering PhD several years ago and wanted to work for NASA. He was waiting to become a US citizen (he’s from Iceland) which he just got and he’s been trying to round out his depth and breadth of experience by getting his SCUBA certification and pilots license to make him more valuable. His friends that work for SpaceX say that Musk is a good boss but he expects his employees to eat, sleep and breathe SpaceX. They work crazy hours and have no life but they’re young and that place becomes their social and professional “hangout”.

Trump would not get the endorsement of the Libertarian Party as Trump is clearly against Open Boarders.

Open BORDERS
He's done a couple podcasts with Rogan. Well worth listening to if you take the time. He's not all about the dollar anymore. He sold his houses and stuff. He has bigger aspirations. Check out his company Neuralink.
If you are known by your enemies....perhaps Musk is better than we thought, I see in the news this evening the SEC and DOJ have announced they are on his ass.

Yep….if the government and the liberals hate him then he’s probably a great guy.
Elon is a true independent. That scares folks.

Hes obviously not in this for the money

It's one of his more admirable traits, convincing everyone that everything he's ever done has been done for the better of mankind.

It's just merely coincidence that he's made hundreds of billions of dollars with his efforts.

I don't think he'd spend a nickel if it wasn't going to make him a dime.

OK, that is probably a well meant piece of advice....but look at the pictures on the internet of the current frontman for the House of Saud that has twitter...yeah, the guy with the red and white checkered tablecloth on his head...do you trust him? Some of you fellows on here could find fault with Mother Theresa.
Mother Theresa made a lot of money too—over 50 million—how much of that made it past Rome to the poor old India?

Elon has done us a great service—he showed us what twitter really is.
