So in my mind the old wooden 1 peice clothespins sucked because of that.
Cant shoot a match with it 10 to 15 ft so they suucked IMO.

I still see em for sale occasionally.

Rural King sold then at one time. The craft type women used to paint them up and make Christmas tree decorations out of them.

I can see that as a use for them.

I was trying to nail one of his cats with it.
Not very precise or target rich enviorment anyways...

Slumlord had the cats on edge....
They heard my lighter flick to touch off the match and hauled azz.

Learned behavior from him launching bottle rockets at em.

Spring loaded only for this, the main purpose of a clothespin. The one piece? Ya, maybe once around the block while everybody else was using the spring loaded and making fun of you.

You could always tell the kid who didn't know how to make a wooden gun that would shoot sliced up innertube bands. He's the guy trying to use a one piece clothes pin to attach a card to his bike spokes. All grown up he probably now has a man bun and drinks White Claw.

Traditionally Willow wood and ash.

Willow wood will stain Spandex...

Ash will leave splinters on occasion.

And the ones that use them for chip bags like me.

I haven't seen one of the old ones in years. We keep a pack of the spring type in the kitchen all the time. They're great for bread wrappers, open packages in the freezer, and anything in the cupboards with an open top.

Spring loaded ones are truly a modern marvel.

Bag had sunflowers on it IIRC - usually faded to hell.

I have a clothesline in the basement but spring clips, not amish ones like you described.

uh me..... probably based on price...

use them for a lot of things they probably weren't intended for around the house...

All the spring type clothespins I've seen for sale in stores nowadays are smaller and either made out of a soft wood or plastic, have chintzy weak springs and aren't worth a crap for much of anything. For resealing chip bags, etc., we use plastic clothes hangers with the wide garment holder spring clips on each side and cut just the sections with the spring clips off and use them instead.

Back when real 'strike anywhere' stick matches were the rule I used to make a match gun with old style spring type clothespins that would strike AND launch a match at the same time.

When I was a little kid my aunt used to make pretend stick people toys for me out of the regular plain no spring clothespins. The regular plain no spring clothespins also worked well for decades for what they were designed to do. Mom always had and used a mix of both.

They have been repurposed at our house. Known now as chip bag closures! I still have the bag mom hung on the clothes line. It's full of old spring type pins.

That is about all I have left now. I preferred the old school non-spring wooden ones, but I only have a couple left if I can find them. The spring loaded ones are ok until they have been used a while then they will spin/twist in between my fingers and explode apart after they are a bit worn.

I must go through a lot of chips.

Yep, miracle most of us made it. One eyeball and some fingers lost amongst the crew I ran with. Mostly fireworks and tater guns along with plenty of stupid.

Them old wooden style, no spring, are much harder to attach, to ya wife's nipples, than the new fangled ones !

Renegade50: I distinctly remember sitting on our lawn as a tyke watching my mother pin clothes to our clothes line with the non-spring activated wooden clothes pins.
I would entertain my self occasionally by pinning my tiny nose shut with the pins.
Mother would scold me about that.
I have NOT seen one of those all wood clothespins in a long time.

I have a large canvas sack full if the old wood cloths pins without a spring, remember my Grandmother with 2 or 3 extra's in her mouth hanging out laundry. Rio7

We use em to hang targets on the chicken wire at the range.

Use them on some pistol/revolver trigger guards. Saves room on a shelf by allowing you to store them nearly upright.

I use em to tighten up her meat wallet!

Mom used the old style and the newer style with the spring when I was growing up.

The only problem with the old style wooden clothspins is they worked forever. Nothing to break. never needed to be replaced. The spring style that replaced the old ones had to be replaced when the springs wore out or rusted. It may be one of the first items designed to get your moneys worth out of them. Then you would have to go buy more. Could be one of the first items designed with planned obsolescence in mind.
