This is my brother's truck. I think it's a 1959. It belonged to our neighbor and it had a home made flatbed with dual wheels on the rear. It never left the farm and it had about 35K miles on it when my brother got a hold of it. When he restored it, he put a 302 Mustang crate engine in it. This thing will burn the rear tires off of it if you wanted it to.

I had a tunnel ram on my '69 Mustang Fastback....many years ago.
429 big block, dual 750 hollys, direct port Nitrous Oxide, locker rear end, 31 spline axles, manual shift body C6, 3500rpm stall, ported heads and on and on.

And yes, I know in '69, Ford didn't put 429's in Mustangs. I did.

Edited to add: The motor would spool to 8,000rpm, but it was best to shift at 7,200.

That’s a lot of ponies for a 351, I’m at the edge of usable vacuum in my 383 at around 450 crank hp. Any more cam would require a vacuum pump.

Yes, Plum Crazy

Me and my cousin painted it. Basecoat/clear coat. PPG, custom mixed.
He wanted to put those ralley,ta stripes- those are hinted pearlescent in their tones.

Had fiberglass drop pin hood, flat black with pearlescent flames on it
Found a Magnum hood and went with it for current use.

Was a dodge dark blue originally. But that was boring.

Weren’t no innanet when I started building. Hauled out of backyard for $125
missing, engine, fenders, hood, wrecked in front. No gas tank, interior trashed.

Used to ride around for hours 20 county radius and look in peoples’ back yards for other challengers and try to acquire parts or parts cars.
Have a Burley tobacco barn with a lot of spare parts and 4 additional big block 383 engines stored in along the wall in my shop.

Schrapnel is correct. One exactly like this was my daily driver from 1966 through 1971. Added a hard-to-find hardtop and then a Judson supercharger. That made it a junior screamer, but way too hard on the valve train, so that came off. Later painted it Nevada Silver, then sold it to get a Corvette.

Forced induction will exploit components like weak valve springs, inadequate (in this instance) rockers and pushrods. Boost pressure needs stouter components to control valve opening and closing.

I stuck Judson Superchargers on two cars: a 1962 MGA MkII DeLuxe and a 1959 Bugeye Sprite. I got dinged pretty hard by the judges when I showed the MGA so off it came. I was trying to make the Bugeye into an autocross "screamer" but even with the supercharger it was merely an autocross "yeller", so I yanked the original 948cc engine + supercharger and fitted a 1275 Cooper S engine + 40DCOE Weber carb and extractor exhaust, and boosted compression to 10.5:1 with larger valves/heavy duty springs - then it screamed and I filled a shelf with trophies. Oh for the days of four wheel drifts on Goodyear Blue Streak racing slicks.....

Judson Superchargers had an almost laughable low boost, but did have enough to bollox up engine dynamics with only a modest power increase. That, plus most people couldn't remember to keep the glass oil reservoir filled with Marvel Mystery oil, so the things ran dry and the bad mouthing by people with "Detroit Mindsets" killed it in the marketplace.

I don't understand this. How is supercharging hard on the valve train?
Thanks badger for the excellent precise rundown.

Not hard on built valve trains of course - but that was a small straight 4 cyl (story is it was a modified version of what had been an implement type engine) not designed for very quick rev and high RPM. Operator enthusiasm when sitting next to a Porsche or Lotus had a lot to do with the wear factor.

MG purists either love the TF or hate it. I love it. The ultimate progression of classic pre-war styling. MG had to do something between 1953 and 1955 while they came up with a "modern" aerodynamic design (which became the MGA), so they gave the TD a facelift and muddled through with it as the TF.

Champions of Detroit Muscle laugh at the little things, but I'll say there's room on the planet for all tastes - and there's nothing finer than a leisurely drive through the countryside on an Indian Summer afternoon in a vintage British roadster with the top down and a sweetheart by your side.

Yeah, the TR engine started life in tractors. Not exactly small 4-bangers, they displaced 2 liters, and had a typical British under-square design. It was tuned sufficiently to give spirited performance in those light roadsters - so what if they only revved to 5000rpm's give or take, they had bags of torque to spare and they pulled like, well, tractors. They were bullet proof and with their heavy duty bottom ends could take a lot of punishment and withstand a lot of "performance upgrades".

I got early 60s TR-4 engine in my shop

Barn find, from a heap of TR4-A and MGA parts. Doors, bonnets, even got a transmissions. Out of the rain

Someone needs.

Hauled the car bodies off, stripped the parts. The body panels are aluminum

Ain’t nothing but chevy dumbasses in this town.

Have you considered swapping that out for a more modern grind?

It was. I started building it in HS. It had the 140HP quad carbs. I rebuilt it, Isky Cam and .040 over. It dino'd at 186 to the wheels so it was a mover. I finished it in 1988 and drove it until I sold it in 2003. I wish I never had but it is what it is.

Thanks - you did a great job with that - beautiful. I, too, wish you still had it - and would be trying to get it from you.

I have owned four Corvairs over time (all Gen 2) and, to my regret, do not have one now. Had a vanilla 65 coupe to start in 1972 (someone ran a light - smacked me hard across the front and totaled it) so bought it from the insurance company and salvaged the drive train and anything else possible. Later sold that stuff, with 2 Corvairs, to a guy in the local C club.

Immediately got a 65 Convertible with the 140 hp four carb setup (metal flake blue with white top - maybe kinda ghey today?), then a Corsa turbocharged quickie. Sold those two when we left Tucson for the East - no garage there.

Later, for my wife when we were in Prescott, bought a 68 convertible 140 with 4 speed manual and she loved it. Ran all over the place with the top down. When we later moved to the valley we sold it - she needed an AC car for her business work and we did not have enough garage space - would not let a jewel like that sit out in the desert sun. I am still thinking and looking. What is a guy likely to spend for one like yours?

it was a new stick if I recal .284/484
Still hydraulic lifters

It’s fine for just the 600 edelbrock carb.

I know that grind. What I mean is there are designs that can improve drivability and power at the same time. Newer stuff can get more area under the lift curve even with less duration.

I never got into the muscle car stuff but I can sure love them. Sweet rides. I’m not a loyalist for brands either. If I see a sweet ride I dig it.
I love them all, really.

Kinda like guns……. I like the bang. Not the name.

I put that car together in 1991. My tech level is stalled. I’ve not turned a wrench on it in 25 years. 😀

Just stays inside.
I’ve never let a rain drop hit it since 1989

All my gear head buds are dead, moved far off now.

I need to get myself back in there do some work and learn the the new tech.

Been busy with medical chit for 10 years
Posted By: mathman Re: Classic Car Porn thread. - 03/10/23
I haven't turned a wrench in a long time either. I live vicariously through the cars of others. grin

I like these two.

Dad and I rebuilt a 58 Chevy 4x4 in when I was in High School. Would have to look through shoe boxes to find a picture.

My thoughts too.

Nice looking automobiles.

America: America's hard-working people made some great automobiles.

We can do it again, we are a proud people, we are a strong people. We have American pride.

I kinda miss it, but the market got so crazy & classics becoming too valuable to enjoy other than just looking at.

They've created an annual rod run in my little town that now attracts over 1200 entries, a lot of stuff to look at. I quit going. Can't have an old hot rod anymore to just do some burnouts of bang some gears, cause anything worthy seems like it's worth as much as my house. Guess that's what I get for being a broke dick, when hot rods are part of what got me there in the first place laugh

Sounding condescending here..NOT. Maybe jealous. Enjoy every single photo posted of old cars & trucks. Hell tractors & motorcycles too. Please keep em coming.
Love some barn dust.

You could put that on just about anything for more value. lol

That is a pretty good group of Vairs!

I had a 62 coupe, that I put a 180 turbo/4 spd. I hadn't started the body, very strait no rust, my mom cruised it around on nice days. I wish I had that one as well, a real sleeper.
