A member Duckhunter sent me a PM about the arrowhead on Callie the cats grave.
Thought I typed out a reply to him.
Musta spaced out hitting the reply button.

Gave that arrowhead to the wife couple weeks ago.
Told her it was for her cat and to tell me when the time was right to take her to the vet.

These are my loyal dogs and their arrowhead head stones

How do you "fix" the arrow head to the stone?

I could see one of the local crackheads stealing it if not permanently attached.

I don't man
Just place em on top.

Callie the cat arrowhead

None of my buried critters have markers, but I know where they are so it's not too late. I also have a cat named Callie buried here rene. When I was digging the grave for my dog Scooter I think i cried more than I ever have.
Posted By: crittrgittr Re: Pet Headstones - 03/22/23
I planted a tree just above my dogs head to mark his grave. Also did it because he liked hanging out with me under the shade of a tree in the yard.

4 of our departed dogs are buried in a thick grove of aspens up on the mountain. Little trees are coming up now where the ground was disturbed.
Posted By: renegade50 Re: Pet Headstones - 03/22/23
All the cats and dogs are buried heads to the north star.
And facing either east or west into each other.
Say a prayer for em at sunset the evening of their burial.

I get you man, right there with you.

Ground is too frozen for me to bury our little house dog.

Ground was too frozen when my dog brother Whitey died so I waited about a month.

Picked out a spot near his favorite place by the river. Broken off cottonwood tree for his headstone.

Just random blocks and peach trees here. I could dig up a big slab from the creek and place it on my previous lab

Bad ass Renegade burying pets and putting up markers!

Says something about a man.

Be careful,
gonna damage the image.

Looking over at an 11 year old Boxer.
Turning grey, getting arthritis. ( Both of us😁)
The topic turns me melancholy.

Nice and deep and clean.

And ya think about that and many other good things while digging and sending a pet to the beyond when doing it and when it is done.

Humans been burying pets for 10,s of 1000,s of years and honoring them thru out the ages in many ways from ancient societies and early groups of man up till the present.
And the future....

It's what we do.
It's ingrained in our nature.

Dogs and Cats and humans evolved together.

Especially man and dog!!!

Nice to see what others do for their pets/ family members.
Pets are family members and loved greatly.

They burn bright.
Then our hearts hurt.
And they deserve honor.

Iv buried 3 dogs at my old house, one was just his ashs as it was winter when he past on. It hard to do, they just don't last long enough. A few years ago was out in the woods scouting deer, I sat down on a log to take a break, happand to see a flat rock. I cleaned it off and very faint Goldie, and 1978, this was aways off the road. I think must have been a bird dog as it's an old cut over area. Been back that way a couple of times, and always stop by and say hi!

My great uncle raised beagles and coon hounds for most of his life in PENN. When he started in the late 1950s, he would take an old or sick dog to the vet to be put to sleep when it was time. They used gas back then and one day the vet asked him if he would like to watch how it was done. He said the dogs died slowly and he never took one after that. He had a fair amount of wooded property and he had a pet cemetery as he called it. He told me after watching the dogs die from the gas, that a 22 revolver was more humane and respectful

...some wonderful handmade grave markers here--thanks for posting. My beautiful orange and white setter Scarlet died suddenly at age nine in 2015....first time we have lived where we could dig a grave on our own land for one of ours. I found a big chunk of white quartz with golden stripes, that is her grave marker. Later I planted white daffodils on the grave. The site is on the edge of the woods frequented by ruffed grouse.

For frozen ground, old-time cemeteries used to build a fire on the spot to thaw it enough to dig.

Most of ours are in the Pacific, where their ashes were scattered.

We were always moving. Couple of cats buried where we lived in the desert, cats aren't known as ocean lovers.

Juniper tree out back is Katie's tree as she always made sure to explore and mark there when the wife had her off leash out back here.

We have two boxes of ashes that need to be taken on a trip to the coast when the weather clears. The Pacific needs some more of our dogs.

It,s cool you sent me the PM.
That got me to think about starting a thread.

Lotta members posting some righteous respectful stuff about their loved and remembered pets.

Have always enjoyed threads about your dogs.

That goes for everyone also.

May not get along with some on here at times myself.
And vice versa

But when a person loses a pet .
I will post regrets or sorrows for their loss.
We all know what the loss feels like.

It's a commonality thing that erase,s whatever for the moment and say something respectful to show some sort of bridge.

Don't know how to really put it other than that way..

Their is alot of ancient society poetry and verse about their dogs.
Have Google fu,d it and read alot of it a couple of years ago.
When Cookie died.

It is good stuff and ties in right up to the present with man's feelings about his dogs.
