Just that
Nope - I took a left.
Long time ago. Stopped at Paesano's, killer Eye-talian food.

Is there a BBQ NM? Kinda like Jose and Hose B, but different.
Posted By: 673 Re: Been to ABQ , New Mexico? - 10/02/23
I can just BBQ at home.

Never been their.
But I probably would have taken any turn to leave.
Pretty sure bugs bunny did similar and just said it to not offend anyone per his "wrong turn" their also.

Spent a couple nights in ALBQ a few years ago. Was doing some testing at White Sands.
Bought a motorhome there a few years ago. Don't believe it when they say "the roof doesn't leak"- - - - -it never rains out there! Damn near drowned on the way back to Tennessee!

No - only place I've been in NM was Raton. Which I liked.

I saw it from the air once.

A few times. VA, passing through, etc. Beautiful location for a city and nicely locaed for outdoor pursuits...but the city leaves much to be desired, imho.

I did too Hot Air Balloon.
I lived there ten years. 64-74. I try real hard to avoid it.
Lived there from '94 to '98. Never experienced a more racist bunch of $hit bags than the 'spanics and the injun's in Nuevo Mexico. Never been back. It will be a cold day in hell I ever go back to that $hit hole.

Yes. Had a client there once 20+ years ago. Sch!thole town. Cheap motels.

Cold as fug in the winter.

Need to go back down to see a friend that I haven't seen in years. He isn't in ALBQ but in the area.
I live here, but far enough away from ABQ to be safe and happy. Anyone in the area or passing through is welcome to PM me and I'll tell you what to avoid and what is worth seeing.

Is that barbecue places still on South Broadway?

Powdrell's was always the bbq place in ABQ. I grew up there and the Powdrell kids lived on my block.
Ran over a gator and ripped an air line off outside Albuquerque.
Made it to the El Vacquero Cafe.
Got out and heard water running.
"OH schizz! The crossover!

Some plastic, lotta duck tape, me covered in sand cussing, soaked in fuel, the lack of sticks to jam in the hole, got it stopped.

Called the company while I ate breakfast.
Firemen showed up, bleary-eyed, saw the soaking in puddle,
"Jeeze, the called us for that? It's the desert, that's no big deal."

Then the chubby, Indian, State Patrolman showed up.
Trying to impress me with his ability to track me after I hit the gator,
and mad at me for spilling fuel on HIS highway.
He didn't impress me.

Couple hours to get patched up, a good breakfast, learned a good place to eat.

Just searched it up on Maps, closed now.

No reason to go back.

I lived there for a couple of years in the mid 70s while I was doing an MS in biology at UNM. I liked NM quite a bit, but Albuquerque was never my favorite part.

I'll be flying in to ABQ later this week on the way to an antelope hunt in eastern NM.
Some beautiful places in New Mexico.

Albuquerque donā€™t make the list. Even the really, really loooong list.
About 4000 times as it is part of my work territory for the last 20 years. It has a few nice things but I do not agree with the politics there at all and it is getting worse by the day.

Albuquerque, NM is a gang shooting gallery. Stay away! MTG

Hookers r cheap there
A deteriorating sewerā€¦and Iā€™m a native whoā€™s never going back.

Yup. Wasn't at all impressed. We visited with our 5th wheel rv on a 3 week trip through NM and AZ.

As far as towns go, we enjoyed Santa Fe and Taos more. Wasn't really impressed with Taos but the places we visited on day trips from there made it good.

Red River is much better....

Has meth ruined everything there or is that just a Montana thing?

Went to grade school there ā€œnorth valleyā€a few years in the mid seventies we would sharpen our pencils before recess so we could stab someone while playing basketball
Best part of Albuquerque, NM is which ever lane of IH40 takes you away!

Kinda like Houston, TX! Best part of Houston is the northbound lane of IH45!

I have no idea about that but I bet they all eat really cheap with this something cockroach infested Mexican restaurant that we've all heard about
In 2021, the wife and me had the opportunity to drive to Phoenix, AZ.
US 287 to Amarillo.
IH40 to Flagstaff, then south.

I was absolutely blown away at the traffic out there!
At night, the lanes of IH40 were literally rivers of headlights or taillights.
There was a wreck just outside Flagstaff in the westbound side. Traffic was backed up for probably THIRTY FIVE MILES! šŸ¤Æ
The only difference was the eastbound lane was moving!!!
If we weren't driving 80 to 85, you'd get run over....by semi's as well as automobiles!

We stayed overnight at ALBQ both directions!
Was never so ready to leave a place in my entire life!
It's been a while.

My daughter lived there for about 15 years due to her job, fortunately for her she recently retired and moved. I went to visit 3 - 4 times a year for a couple of weeks at a time so I do have some experience with ABQ.
It is not my favorite place but it also not that much different from most large cities, it is all about situational awareness. Stay away from the shady parts of town and you are no more likely to be in trouble there than any other city.
There are lots of great mexican food places and a surprising amount of historical and other interesting things to do and see there.

To the person who posted about Powdrells BBQ on South Broadway - I recently saw something about them closing that location, but that part of town is getting pretty shady also.

Cool biplane hanging in airport

I was happy to see just now the Albuquerque Rattlesnake Museum in Old Town is still a thing thirty years later. They still have that cool t-shirt. I should order another while weā€™re both still around, mineā€™s plumb worn out (this ainā€™t my shirt, photo lifted off of the ā€˜net).

It was a nice oasis in the desert in the 50-70ā€™s. My Grandma lived there. Itā€™s now a ganged up cesspool only topped by the poor law enforcement and governance.

There used to be a similar one hanging in the Boise airport. I wonder what they did with it.

Good old Bob! My mom taught at San Felipe de Neri school and would buy cokes from Bob. She said he didn't come to work if he didn't feel like it.
Many times! Spent a decade working for an electrical supply company that was headquartered there.

Enjoyed my visits, but we were kept in some narrow hash marks when there.

Son, brother, and sister live there.
Daughter lives in nearby Rio Rancho with her husband and our g-kids.
Lived there in the late '70's/early '80's.
Anymore, I only go there under duress - need something desperately, as a rule.
I prefer staying in NE New Mexico, preferably Las Vegas, Taos, Raton area.
On out to Clayton. NM politics DO suck bigly, however.

I was in an Albuquerque hotel for a couple weeks in 2006 to support the development of the Eclipse jet.

That is a high crime city with bars on the windows.
I was in a bunker at the airport trying to start a jet engine until 4 a.m.
My eyeball got dried out from the wind there.
In my hotel room, someone on the other side of the wall was getting a nooner.
