I often see this comment trotted out like a badge of honor on these pages. Let me put that into perspective for you.

Jerry Nadler schidt himself on on live TV for all of the world to see. Jerry will never live that down. Here 3+ years later, people still bring it up regularly. People often make mockery of him for it.

Wholeheartedly agree with PB's OP, and Rocky Raab. Burns uses it all the time.......all you need to know.

To me the expression refers to someone holding bad feelings against someone who doesn't know or care. They are "living rent free" in your head because you can't get rid of them, and they aren't "paying in return" because they have no thought of you.

For the record, I don't give enough of a flying fook about any of the 'Fire's wingnuts, dipschitz, trolls, and nutcases to have them even visit my head, much less live there.

It also could mean that one owns his dwelling/life with no debt, enjoys such freedom, strives to do beneficial things for others, and is not bitter.

Well, I have never flown a fook, but those things don't much interest me either.

So who does the OP obsess over? Guessing they used this line, and he needs to construct a false equivalency to make him seem less obsessive...

Where I come from, 'Living rent free' means you own your own property and have it paid for. Quite the opposite from where you live RR.

What I find ironic (and in line with the OP's point) is that many of those who claim to be living rent free—-and constantly are expressing it to everyone on the forum—-are exactly the ones who should be owed rent.

To be clear, I don’t think Paul fits that category but many, many others do.
