I bought a new to me truck that was off lease and came from Texas. I was wiring in the Topper I got for it and found a solid coating of mud inside the wiring loom, the schit gets everywhere.

Lol, you boys sure do have a lot of clay there!

Funny you should mention that.

To hear tell it never rains in Texas...except for when they get enough rain to float the Ark.

Don’t believe it Jim, it won’t quit raining around here. On top of that the county decided to tear all the blacktop off the county road in front of the house and put new blacktop. All the road base is soaked, you have to put the damn truck in 4wd to make it to the highway. County said they should have the new blacktop down by July 😳

It was raining at home today, I told the bride, I had to get out on the interstate and get my truck cleaned off, so much gumbo mud stuck on from duck season. It worked, kinda.

Lol, I haven't even taken a picture of it yet. It's a stock 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Crew Cab with the 5.7 Hemi.

I put a topper on it as I plan to sleep in it when I haul the SXS to the U.P. and go wheelin'. My boss told me I have to take a minimum of 5 weeks vac this year.

I don't know if it's because i maxed out or he's just sick of me........

Good Grief, Rockin!!

Don’t call it quicksand! You’ll get dozens of people telling you that you don’t know what you’re talking about and then they’ll go into a deep discussion of the definition of quicksand and of their many near death experiences with it!

LOL.

99% of the people don't know what real quick sand is. laugh

I'm pretty sure this stuff qualifies. It was on an established ranch road, and usually those are okay to drive on after the water runs off a couple days later.

This spot just had no bottom to it at all. You could get out and just walking on fresh ground, it would shake like puddin' when you took a step.

Fugg dude...get a D8 stuck sometime.

That is something I have yet to see and that's okay!

My actual only fear in getting something really stuck is our 4x4 farm tractor and air drill. My professional farmer buddies do it every so often with their even bigger equipment and I can only imagine the mess.

I was really lucky that I had a semi-firm piece of ground a couple of chain lengths away, so I backed my 75hp in there, hooked up and pulled it out.

The 120hp that was stuck was embarrassed his little brother had to save him. laugh

I will tell you what's worse.

Getting an air drill stuck...and then backing up with it in the ground.

You plug every opener on the farm.

That was a bad day for a 15 year old Jim.

We had a tree down at work and we got the big idea of using the loader in an area the was a little swampy, well we found out it was a lot swampy and we sunk the damn thing up past the axles, if you moved it at all you could watch it sink a little more. there was no way to get another piece of equipment in there to pull on it, it was hopeless.

We finally figured it out after hours of frogging around we would put some sticks under the bucket and lift the front wheels up and then cut up a bunch of wood to throw under them, then we would lift the bucket up until it contacted a large branch and lifted the back wheels up then cut up more wood to toss under.

It took us a long time but we got that bitch out!

We DID! - until the county "operators" bladed it all off into the bar ditches, where (occasional) heavy rains wash it away.
Like into the pastures!

A truck ain't a truck unless it's 4X4!!

And Jim now owes Sam a hunerd dollar bill!!

It's a classic so it's the cheaper model and don't have a lot of frills on it, no heated seats or steering wheel like my wifes car.

I like it much better than I did my previous Ram Longhorn Edition with all the bells and whistles.

The "goo" you encounter depends on where you are in Texas.

The black goo up around Dallas won't let go. When it's wet, it's bottomless.
The red clay of east Texas isn't that deep, but it's slick as snot.
Sand is a different story. The wetter sand gets, to a point, the more like concrete it becomes. If sand is covered with vegetation, IT becomes bottomless. Let sand get bone dry and it becomes bottomless.
Kaliche is like clay. Snot slick.

I looked for one with rubber floor but didn't find any from the south, I settled on a fancy pair of rubber floor mats.

I was looking all over the south for a decent truck and this thing popped up local at a dealer cheaper than buying it and sending my SIL down to drive it back for me.

Muskeg. No other I've ever seen. Once you cut enough of the top to fall in it could be who knows how deep under it. I stepped off a 6 wheeler a buddy stuck... we had put a few logs under in and they disappeared. I was glad I caught the handle as I stepped off in my waders as I went through and down my feet never touched bottom. Took us another day to come back and get it. My guess was it would be long gone out of sight by the time we got back. We were lucky. Since then he doesn't take out on his own in the dark.. LOL

Didn’t see his follow up post. I also misinterpreted “off lease” from “off the lease”. Lots of old truck retire at the deer lease in Texas.
