This guy was hanging out down behind my place.
He had a red patch on his head. Pretty bird.
What type??
Sorry for the lousy phone pic.

I believe this is the elusive marital subspecies.

I thought it was going to possibly be about a couple other things.

Not really anything but dark coloration on the neck.
Red on the head. Kinda different.

Mom always had a feeder out on the porch and the redthroated humming birds were there all day.
Each of us three boys and Dad got here big hanging baskets to for Mothers Day. That porch was lined with them!😀
Sometimes those hummers would get to chasing eachother off, and the porch was sometimes a dangerous place!
One nested in the tree in the yard and after they left for fall, I clipped it.
I still have it.
Nothing but a little silken pouch a little bigger than your thumb.
Penny also had one, but I never witnessed a battle over it like on Mom’s porch.

Light angles affect how the colors look, because it isn't pigment. Based on your location and time of year, you probably have an Anna's.

Any mention of "hummers" must include a reference to Micky Coleman.

I like hummers.

The birds too.
