Have you looked at the Honda eu3200is? It is pricey but fuel-injected. It and the Honda eu7000is are the most fuel-efficient gas-powered generators I've been able to find. The 3200is is slightly more efficient than the 7000.
Honda buy once cry once

I'd rather buy 2 Predators and be able to put them in series than one Honda for more money.
I have a couple of the little suitcase 2200 watt Hondas and have been very happy with them. I can't speak of other generators as I have not used them, but I would not hesitate to buy the Hondas again over any other brand available. They are costly, but have been ultra reliable.

^^^ THIS ^^^

Lots of other models, wattage size and affordable prices to choose from, too...

For me a big selling feature and a one of the main reasons I went with a WEN is the fuel shut-off feature offered on many of their portable gen sets:

Quote
...The WEN 2500W Dual Fuel Inverter Generator is also equipped with fuel shutoff. This feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the generator to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside of the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan.
Having used a Honda 2000 on a job site, I wanted on. It would run a 77 skillsaw. I thought of cheaper models so I kept an eye on Craigslist. It was not long and a old guy had sold his motor home and was giving up his Honda. I can’t remember if I paid $6-700 for it. It was close to new with cover and manual. Happy with my choice!
Those wen are cheap priced!

I have the harbor frieght generator and my SIL has a westinghouse. I think the westinghouse is better.

Lucky I bought the extended warranty with the harbor freight generator. the generator runs great but I have had the on/off switches go out on 2 of them. Turn them off and they don't shut down. have to choke them to shut them off.
Northern tool powerhorse
Yo Egg. Northern and Harbor deal the same trash. Probably same owners.

I vote Honda, talked with a couple ranchers today, they favored Champion over Predator.

I realize your foam filled Ph.ukdoll seems real to you. But that is not the information these Consumers are looking for. Go hose her out and wait for another thread.
Some RV a/c's can't be started with a 2000. They need 2200.
Anybody still wondering why good, respectable members are turning away from this forum?

No, nothing wrong with this forum unless you have thin skin, I much rather have a forum like this than having admins and moderators censoring free speech.

Does this qualify as free speech or someone just to stupid to have a coherent thought?

Some of the members are mentally challenged, should we discriminate against them ?
Tards are entitled to same free speech.
For $500, I'd prefer this Champion 2400 from Cabelas

CHAMPION

That said, I do have a Predator post hole digger that I bought a few years ago. For occasional use, it works find. Predator engines seem to work well but parts can be a problem. For low use where you'll never wear it out, they seem to do ok.
Predator and I've used the Honda and Generex also. had to rebuild the carburetor on the Generex. Why spend more when the predator does the same thing for less money unless you're trying to impress folks by spending more?

"Lucky I bought the extended warranty with the harbor freight generator. the generator runs great but I have had the on/off switches go out on 2 of them. Turn them off and they don't shut down. have to choke them to shut them off."

Same here. I didn't buy the extended warranty and it didn't fail until after the regular warranty lapsed so I took it apart myself. Harbor Freight would do nothing except say I should have bought the warranty.

All I did was unplug/replug one connection I could get to but it has shutoff with the switch ever since. If it fails again I'll just go back to turning the on/off switch to "start" which chokes it to a stop.

Not much room to work on the internals the way everything is compacted in there. I could hardly get my fingers in to move wire harnesses around to try and trace a ground wire

Otherwise it works good.
I vote Honda.
I am still using the 5kw TroyBilt generator that FEMA bought for me after Hurricane Katrina tore things up in Miami, back in 2005. Still starts on the first pull. Noisy little bastard though.
The neighbors bought a Harbor Freight 220v model. The power went out so they had me fire it up. The gas line leaked, it was very noisy , and does not idle down. The owner does not like it. Everyone has their own standards, so if it works for you , it’s all that matters.
If you want a generator when you need one.....Honda.

If you want to say you have a generator......Predator.

If you could have either one for free, which one would you take? Why ?
Honda Generators and pumps , i wont buy anything else. I have an Onan in my 5th wheel sucks fuel big time.

Norm
I’ve been doing the research on this myself. There is no doubt that Honda is first rate, but the Predators get really good reviews from lots of people. There are threads on other forums talking about how good they are.
I have two of the Powerhorse 2300 inverter generators.I can hook them together if I need more power. They are well built and very comparatable to the Honda.I've used the Honda's before at work and I can't tell the difference between the two.I bought mine after Hurricane Harvey and used it for four days until my power was restored.I bought one for my Aunt and Uncle in Rockport, ground zero for Harvey. They used it and mine for two weeks until their power was restored.I bought my second one after the Texas Ice Age Storm of 2021.After realizing how much I was depending on one unit not failing during those critical times, for the price,I felt it was worth buying a second one for back up.Since the newest one had a two year warranty,I drained the fuel and changed the oil on the older one and have it stored in the box the new one came in.I keep mine by my back door with ethanol free gas and fuel stabilizer ready to go anytime I have a power outage. This generator will run about eight hours on a tank of gas that's about a gallon.
Some years ago before the 2200 came out I bought two Honda 2000 models, one standard and the other the "Companion" model, and the parallel kit to jump them together for running the AC on RVs.
I bought them at different times, lightly used and in great condition in the $800 range.
I have never regretted getting them for one minute, flawless performance.
We run four honda 2000 they might be 2200, don't remember, two are 8 years old the other two are two years old. Anyway we power conveyors harvesting algae out of the lake. Those things run 10 to 12 hour days, for three months out of the year. We always use startron in the fuel. They are running 3/4 horse motors, with a 100 to one gear box. They also run the lights, during night harvest. Big led light bars front and both sides. So I would vote Honda.
About 15 years ago, Champion built a new factory to make generators. To date they make and sell about a dozen other branded generators. Just because it's not yellow doesn't mean it isn't built by champion. Most of the champion built for others are 3500 or more watts. I would buy Honda, and never look back.

And here you are.
But Honda
I don't need a gen with a lot of power but I do need 240v to run the well pump if needed. The lowest powered 240v I've seen is about 3500 watts. I have a 4000w Champion as a backup.
A couple years ago, we bought a used travel trailer that came with a 2400w Yamaha portable gen. It's a sweet machine. It's very quiet and easy to start. They don't make that model any more but it's been a good one.
Honda is the best hands down. If you want to own one generator buy Honda. But that's not the OP's question. He already owns a 7000 watt generator.

He's asking about a small tailgate or back up generator.

When looking at customer reviews of some of the more commonly known and somewhat lesser cost brands of portable inverter generators of similar wattage the most surprising thing to me is how close they all are in favorable ratings compared to the substantially more expensive Honda's favorable customer reviews...

Honda Customer Reviews

As always, though, ...YMMV ...
I've had two of the off brand type generators. They were fair but louder than the Honda. I have two Hondas and would not buy anything else again.
I have 2 generators a 6000 watt with a briggs and stratton engine. And a Honda2200.
The 6000 is unbelievably loud, thirsty, heavy, and surges power with load changes.
The Honda weighs 46 pounds, reliable, purrs when running. Can't hear it if the TV is on.
Sips fuel, smooth power. Wife can get it out and start it. I haven't regretted spending the.money for it ever.
Know people that own predator. They are good if you get a good one. All the.Hondas are good ones.
I have two of the Honda suitcase generators, One of them an early model from the mid '80s.. still runs perfectly. The other is a new model with the fuel shut off etc. These are used everyday that I work. A guy that I hired used a Wen... It broke down within 10 days. He now owns a Honda.
As someone said earlier in the thread, and I can't agree more with, if you want to generator that actually works buy a Honda, if you want to say you have a generator then get whatever.

For free, Honda.

Because money, Champion

No Harbor Freight generator, because deal shopping I can get Champion for less.

I'd rather buy 2 Predators and be able to put them in series than one Honda for more money.
I'd rather sit next to two Hondas running than one Harbor Freight. Nothing beats the Honda for quietness.
A Yamaha might beat the Honda for quietness. However, the similar model will be heavier and probably a little higher priced.
No doubt. Some people just can't control their impulse to show how juvenile they are. More moderation would be great; but the ignore feature helps immensely. Lot of the same people so put them on ignore and many threads are much better (and shorter).
Honda has a good reputation that has been earned.
I own two EU 2000s. One new companion 30amp and one used two 110 plugs. Paid $350 for the used one and it runs as well as the new one. I use them both all the time and occasionally parallel for 4k continuous.

I say all this I’d buy a used Honda over most other new junk. They just plain work all the time every time.
I should have added the only maintenance I’ve done is oil changes and running the carb dry if I’m not using one or the other.
Honda, it’s not just the price. It’s the reliability. Turn it on pull the cord and it starts. They don’t overrate their generators, wattage wise most other manufacturers do. That’s been my experience with Onan inverted 2500. I think it was rigid and Generac. My personal opinion the only other generator that compares to a Honda is a Yamaha. I have two EU 2000s one EU 3000 and an old Onan 6500,It’s a screamer though. it’s a bitch to get started without electric start, pull starting sucks….
