Enough of this back and forth, let's do our own presidential straw poll. Each member gets one vote, and only people who are members as of the time this post goes up can vote....so no spamming. Vote for the presidential candidate (or probable candidate) of either party for whom you would vote if the election were held today.
I'll go first with Fred Thompson. With thousands of members and no spamming allowed, this might be enlightening.
That's a good idea Steve.
One for Ron Paul.
Casey
and let's' restrict this one to votes and vote counts....no arguing or editorializing.....we can do that elsewhere, as usual
Otherwise Bristoe will be jumping in hollering landslide every five minutes.
Kinky Friedman [ he will announce as soon as the shine wears off Fred and Ron]
I agree, let's just keep it straight up......
Casey
preference Ron Paul
reality we'll have to wait and see
Can I vote for myself? I'm sure to be the most qualified.
Mitt Romney: The most conservative, electable Republican in the race. Proven executive abilities nd the only candidate smart enough to beat Hillary.
Jordan
Can I vote for myself? I'm sure to be the most qualified.
Dang! I shoulda' thought of that......
Casey
I figure we'll let this run for a week or so then cut it off and publish the count. Sorry, no picnic involved.
Rob, go take another hit from the Kool-Aid pitcher. Romney is a RINO!
Well this time around I'm taking into consideration who I want, and who has the best chance to beat Clinton.
Until I hear more from Thompson, I think Rudy (although not my first choice) stands the best chance.
Not that I disagree with Newt or RP much, but they don't stand a chance, and I see where principal got us last election.
I'll say Rudy for now.
Rob, go take another hit from the Kool-Aid pitcher. Romney is a RINO!
Les, be good--let this this run on its own.
Casey

BZZZZZZZ----that's a violation, Violator. Just let them vote. Go to other threads to comment on the wisdom or foolishness of the vote. Order in the polling place will be observed at all times,
Okay, I'll be a good boy, I promise.
... koff ... koff ... uh ... Hi-hi-hill-uh-uh ...
... ah, you know who I mean. The only candidate with "cleavage"!
I'll say Chuck Hagel, just to be different.
Sycamore
Inclusive of Sycamore, I have the tally at:
Thompson 8
Paul 7
Guiliani 2
Friedman 1
Gingrich 1
Romney 1
Hill 1
Huckabee 1
Hagel 1
I would also vote for fred count it.But would love to see lou dobbs run as i feel hes a stand up guy.
Fred Thompson
(If a legitimate 3rd party candidate ever showed-up, that would be my choice. Fred seems less RINOish than the rest AND seems to have a chance at gaining real support.)
None of the above..... as yet.
absolutely, positively............undecided.
Ron Paul, unless it looks by that time as though he might actually win. In that case, somebody third-party TBD.
No one as of the present time.
HBB
geeze, it's not even 2008 yet
way too early for me to make a call. I'm interested in Fred but he's going to have to be more decisive than what we've seen so far.
I would also vote for fred count it.But would love to see lou dobbs run as i feel hes a stand up guy.
Cool.
Fred would be my first choice.
Fred Thompson if he runs.

Ron Paul. Alternatively, Pat Buchanan.
Huckabee. Thompson ain't even in the race yet.
Its like voting for Michael VIck for best quarterback of the 2007 season.
BMT
Undecided, but you can bet your bottom dollar it'll not be for any candidate the Dumbocraps will field in the General Election.
Todd...Pat Buchanan has always been one of the guys who's style and politics I've taken a fancy to. I could live with that choice.
Sorry for the breaking of the rules Steve. Please consider it a semi-btt!!!
+1 for Fred Thompson
Daveyreka
Barack Obama, no, Hillary Clinton Fred
Ron Paul.
Alternatively, Pat Buchanan.
Same here.
Fred Thompson unless something really sinister appears after he declares. Then it's Mike Huckabee in 2016 . . .
I am so underwhelmed at this point with the announced candidates that something more pressing like rearranging my sock drawer may preclude my ability to vote. I cannot say with any certainty that I would vote for any unannounced candidates. Their positions have not been vetted in sufficient detail to get a clear picture of their true positions, or the concessions they would make to get elected.
IF I had to pick right now, Ron Paul. I'd like a little longer to make up my mind though.
Just curious, but I wonder what the tally on this poll currently is?
I'll add it up tonight and post the current totals....Fred's ahead, but RP is running well.
As of right now, FRED. I wish Mitt were more conservative and I have have a second choice!
Dennis
Fred Thompson for now, but I will vote for the Republican that wins the primaries.
Too early...I abstain at this time...
I'll add it up tonight and post the current totals....Fred's ahead, but RP is running well.
Don't forget, I got one vote (mine)
by RP standards that's a mandate.....ooops, my bad, no commenting on this thread. ****slaps self repeatedly****
Absolutely, Tom Tancredo! This being my 1st post on this site, How do ya add emoticons, What are all the Kahunas, Guides,Rangers, etc. Are they mile stones for posts?

Welcome aboard. Kahunas are the best there is.
PS Tancredo's a good man. Would prefer him to anyone else running, other than Ron Paul.

Gotta disagree Hawk, respectfully though, I think Kahuna is the campfire version of PHD, we just pile it higher and deeper. (grin)
no offense intended to any of you around here that have actually earned a doctorate!
The tally at my quick count beginning from Ethan's last post and for those only receiving more than one vote is:
FT......40
RP.......15
Huckabee..3
Buchanan and Gingrich each with 2.
How about 'None of the above!'
Jim
Maybe I'm wrong, but my count is...
Thompson 35
Paul 15
Huckabee 3
Guliani 2
Gingrich 2
Tancredo 2
Hillary 1
Hagel 1
Friedman 1
Romney 1
Buchanan 1
...up to Bootsfishing's post p11
Count Thompson again Ethan. I certainly wasn't meticulous but I don't believe I was 4-5 off!!
thanks for doing the math, Ethan, I got called away
You're right Issac. 40 for Fred.
Florida, Florida, Florida....Diebold, Diebold, Diebold
odd,... the thread has almost 650 views at this point,.. but only a handful of people have bothered to post a preference.
So much better for the Paulistas, B, at least you're excited and know who be the man.
Didn't say that at all.
I just wonder why there is so little interest in making a choice amoung those who have looked in on the thread.
Might have something to do with the election being more than a year away, or the lack of excitement with the field (RP excluded) or the fact that the guy winning the poll isn't even a candidate yet. Or just a general disaffection with the process.
Whomever's running against a democrat...jorge

I think that is pretty normal for forums like these. I was surprised to see that on a given night on some forums, there are as many unregistered users viewing as there are registered.
At this very moment...

291 registered (Paul5388, n007, wyattd, OUTCAST, TTS, Model70Guy, 50 invisible) and

Really, that ain't a bad showing for RP--even given the fact that the range of political views only varies from moderately conservative to right wing...
What happens if RP consistently shows up in the top 2-5 in the primaries? His "radical" ideas may very well get a new look-see from the political establishment......
But we'll have to see how things pan out this poll for the next week or so.
Casey
Yeah, I'd like to keep it up for a while longer and see what happens.

You might be right. I'd say all of the above. I'm certainly not ready to commit to any of the current, or potential candidates.
I'm certainly not ready to commit to any of the current, or potential candidates.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I am. I'll probably be asked to get out my checkbook somewhere around September 8th!!

Speaking of checkbook, check your PM's......
Casey
Why am I receiving PM's but they're not sending?.......Let me try again.
Another PM on the way Isaac.
Not working. I'll shoot you one and maybe the reply feature will work for you.
I'm not qualified to comment on the politics of the USA.
lack of qualification has never stopped any of the rest of us....feel free
Brownback.
Huckabee as second choice.
Third, Thompson if he will really try for it, which I don't think he will. I don't think that he will campaign with the intensity required to win the presidency.
The Republicans don't have an electable selection, or none that appear so at this point. I don't like the Democrat alternatives but am expecting my next prez will be a Dem. Of those, Bill Richardson is the most palatable.
Who would be the closest to FDR?
Is anybody actually keeping count of the votes?
Sorry to post something other than a vote but curiousity is starting to get the better of me and I'm to dam lazy to count them up myself...

If RP had 20% of this countries support right now, it could be a whole new ballgame.
I have no candidate.....my political leanings are closest to the Libertarians, but that's just because the Anarchists don't have a party.

One more for Fast Freddy Thompson
Count me as another one for Mike Huckabee.
You all do know he is a hunter, has a concealed carry permit, and is rock solid on the 2nd Amendment, right? That's certainly not my only reason to support him, but one reason that's relevant to this board.

You da man, Walker. but I reserve the right to scream Diebold if RP wins
Relax, SNO. ... Those "in the know" have assured me that Ron Paul is strictly a "2-percenter".
Of course, this IS just an internet poll.
for entertainment purposes only...like tarot readers and psychics on cable TV....and equally valid as a predicter of real elections.
but an interesting perspective on our little slice of the cyberworld

Oh, I still think its enlightening....just not probative of anything other than how we 100 or so campfire folk voted. I would have hoped for a bigger voter sample....how many members do we have now? I think we got less than a one per cent turnout, for all candidates combined.
Maybe do it again after Labor Day and see if participation improves...maybe we could convince Rick to pin it to the top so it won't sink down and not get read?
Maybe try a new poll every couple months til the primaries are complete.
SNO,
Yeah, I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this latest abberation.
Quiet now, ... people are voting.
shhhhhh, lets just try to remember to btt it regularly.
And my grandma would like to sleep with Rock Hudson if he weren't gay.

OK. For the purpose of this thread and poll, I'll throw down with the Paulistas.
Just to try to get him over that magical 2%. Toss out the not-going-to-vote votes, he's in the 25% range.

Maybe somebody else will tend to this noble experiment. The last vote tallied was Ironbender's.
Have a good week-end, everyone.
