Purchased an old Ithaca 37 Featherlight full choke 12 ga today for $225.00.

Manufactured in 1962 I'm told. Serial #812038 And wow is it ever light. Can't weigh much more than 7 lbs I don't think.

Any body aware of any available fully rifled barrels for this shotgun? I want to go deer hunting and would like to improve on it's accuracy and use sabots which I'm told improve both the distance and accuracy abilities.

So any rifled barrels available or am I stuck shooting lead slugs since it's a full choke?

I've been told by one guy though that the barrels on the earlier model 37's weren't interchangable. He indicated that only on the guns with serial #855000 and higher are rifled barrels availabe for. Mine is 812038 made in 1962.

I really hope that something is available.

I just can't believe that I can't purchase a fully rifled barrel for this old gun. I knew I should have went with a Remington 870 for some reason.

I guess I'll be shooting lead slugs through this one and limit the distance of my shots.

How cool would that be? A fully rifled 20" barrel with cantalever scope mount on a 1962 Ithaca Featherlight.

BTW... Does anybody see any problems with shooting rifled slugs out of a smoothbore barrel? I take it that since there are "Rifled slugs" then there are also non rifled slugs.

if you are serious about deer hunting, the modern sabot slugs in a fully rifled barrel are the way to go. Badger set me up right. The owner called me and we talked a couple hours. VERY VERY knowlegable. I would call them monday if you don't hear back. And to boot, his price was less than many others, and he was the only one that made a barrel for the nova pump.
Worth the call if you ask me. I am sure he can custom make anything if he doesn't already have one around.

Isn't it just possible to build a rifled barrel for the gun and keep it interchangable with the current barrel as well?
