Nothing brightens your day like playing with puppies.'specially Airedales.

This was three years ago.
Well,

I'm headed out of work a bit early, picking my boy up from school and we're going to spend a couple hours making 22rf empties. Blue sky and warm. I'm thinking he'll be at least this happy.

[Linked Image]

The lucky bumm has Monday off from school, so as a concerned parent I'm taking the day off and seeing if we can't find a hare or two to shoot.
Coming home from the Gulf...

[Linked Image]
Sitting in front of the fireplace and drinking vodka on a blustery winter day while showing my buddy, Bill, how to assemble a FAL lower receiver.

I figured out how to build one first,..made up some tools,..then half the guys at work had to have one.

For a while there, every time I turned around there was somebody with a box of rifle parts knockin' on my door.

But it was a lot of fun,..always turned into a social event with lots of liquor and food,...and I take more than a small measure of pride in the fact that I became aquainted with the process to such an extent that I can build a damn fine example of an FN-FAL even with my blood alcahol level hovering above .2.

One of the happiest days of my life
[Linked Image]

After my wife and I trying for a long time my daughter was born in Jan 07. I wish I had pictures from my son being born in 89. I traveled for work for several years and spent the first year and half of Emily's life on the road 2 to 3 weeks a month. I left it last July and came back work in my hometown( I was commuting 120 miles daily when I wasn't traveling).

I spend every night at home now and get to fish/shoot in the evenings with my son. My Dad lives up the road and I see him every couple of days. There are plenty of 3 generation hunts every season. The good times are right now for me.
Me on the left.
I was mebby twenty two. Invincible Marine. Hanging out in the Paradise Club in Olongapo PI.
Drinking San Miguels.
Good times.

Love our old "when we were young and immortal" photo's from us that served in the military. So, as I've been scanning old shots, here are some more things I was happy about back in my prior career (these were all Desert Storm shots)

That this guy is on my wing when I go over the beach and wants nothing more than to shoot one of those Phoenix, or Sparrows or Sidewinder or use his 20mm and kill the guy that wants to hurt his EA-6B. Funny, I never thought the F-14 beautiful until they were my escort and I realized that whatever they wanted to kill inside 100 miles was going to die.

[Linked Image]

That Jorge and his S-3 is there to give me a few thousand lbs of post-strike fuel.
[Linked Image]

That I'm 26 years old and my pilot and I have survived our first war and that our first port call after 50 days at sea is tomorrow.

Pat,

Gots lots and lots more my friend. Fishing is my "pasttime"...

Chasing fur is the obsession...
I'm impressed! Bowhunting is mine, but I'm not as good at it as you are varminting.
took me a second to relize it was a strugeon and not a shark
My daughter Kristin at bat during a Challenger League baseball game. Kristin loves to play in any type of ballgame and is a real sports nut.

Cooking lunch with the CSM, Tabuk Saudi, APR 03. We were passing through via a series of C130 hops to get to the Theater HQ in Arifjan KU so I could meet my new boss. Dinner is by my boot and my only Kabar (a medium stockman) is in my hand.

Clemson Men! My three bird hunting companions are all Clemson fans, I am the only Gamecock fan in the bunch. I told them they didn't need blaze orange hats at a shooting preserve; when they arrived and found out I told them wrong they reluctantly accepted my "gift hats". I had ordered the patches and had them sewn on the blaze hats - they had to wear Gamecock hats all day, but were good sports about it.

That's an awesome prank! grin I work with a USC grad of 76 and you guys would get along great.
Great pics! I've never seen a baseball field without dirt before.
Pat,

Killing coyotes where there are lots of coyotes is not too hard a task my friend. I imagine you're a pretty good stick slinger if you don't cut down their food...grin..

You're more than happy to come along if you've a mind as I've found a few places in SE Texas to go chasing during my time here...grin...Love to have you as we'd have a ball.

See the pic of the ole' red from last year?

Pat, Challenger League is a Little League division for special needs kids (mentally or physically disabled). We have many who are on crutches or in wheelchairs - the field was designed by a design group out of Atlanta (Miracle League) and was built that way by a local commercial foundation contractor. You wouldn't believe how much that field cost - especially the rubberized cover. Our League has grown to eight teams and we could have twelve next year - and we hope to add an adult league on another field.

As a native Sandlapper from South Carolina I'm likely one of the few who neither attended USC or Clemson. However, there's no better rivalry in my mind than Gamecocks-Tigers. I attended College in Charleston but my family is split with half attending Clemson and the other USC. Makes for a fun December. Oh yah and one Georgia Dawg---arghhhhhh!!
That is awesome!
Just one of many, twins first Christmas:

Couple more from me, an elk hunting trip near Craig MT in 2004. Using my Browning A-Bolt-II .300 WIN MAG. Only Browning rifle I have ever owned, and I only owned it for two seasons - remarkably accurate with a good handload. This was a terrific trip, invited by an Army buddy to hunt his family property. His nephew guided us, we were joined by another Army bud who showed up as a complete surprise to me.

[Linked Image]

Also took some pheasants on the same trip at another of his families land, this one near Geraldine MT.

Ingwe,

I dont have a picture to share but some of the best times I can remember were spent @ our cabin in West Virginia. My grandfather built that place with lumber that came right off the property. I can remember deer season was alwasy my favorite time, all my uncles and my dad and grandfather would all spend a week there. I really miss being able to hunt with the few that are no longer with us but thoese will always be some of the best times I can remember.
Turkey assaulting when the boys were young...very good times!

Ingwe,

That is one of the best pics I've seen on this forum...and I mean ever. You are tugging on my heart strings with that my friend. tugging like you don't even know.

There is nothing like a pocket full of 20ga shells, and broke in pair of boots on a crisp October day.

Thank you for feeding the fire.

Tom
