Anyone ever try Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum?
The dude at the Liquor store recommended it and I'm wondering if it's any good because the guy looked like a teetotaler to me... He actually looked like a preacher...
Never trust a skinny cook comes to mind...
I'm about to pour me a Newcastle and pray again for a Cowboy victory....

Yes it is good, though rum is not my libation of choice.

Very decent spiced rum. Polished off a jug at hunting camp this year. No complaints.
Posted By: steve99 Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I wouldn't touch anything with "sailor" in the name. 'specially rum.

Can't help ya with the Cowgirls bein' an Eagles fan and all. Go Saints.
Posted By: toltecgriz Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Try Mount Gay. Seriously.
Posted By: BrotherBart Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I figger'd you might chime in Jim... Anyone that drinks Absinthe(turpentine) might drink rum... grin
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
That would be one to ask for in Rocksprings.....
Posted By: rifle Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
The darker the better...now I'm going to get a cigar...
Posted By: RockyRaab Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I saw some of that next to the Captain Morgan a while back and made a mental note to try it someday. Haven't yet, but as soon as I finish the last bottle of CM I have have in my rack, I shall so do.

Hey, I didn't pick the name. grin

But it is a good rum.
Posted By: BrotherBart Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Rocky,Captain Morgan makes a "Select" spiced rum that is evil...Very evil... wink grin
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
The darker the berry the sweeter the juice.

Something is fundamentally wrong with a Texan drinking Mount Gay, or not.........

That's right, you're ex-Navy where it ain't gay underway...
Posted By: toltecgriz Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I hear you. Take it home in a paper bag and pour it into an empty bottle of Crown.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Chicks dig it, though it might be the penis shape on the bottle...

Gosling Black Seal. If you like dark rum.
Posted By: ShootingLady Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I haven't tried Sailors, but it's funny because a clerk recommended it to me out of like 15 rums on the shelf.
Posted By: Pugs Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Goslings black seal rum and ginger beer = black and stormy. Good stuff. Of course, there's water more than four feet deep between here and Bermuda so can't expect the Coasties to have made the trip . wink
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Too many Navy wives left at the pier..........
Posted By: toltecgriz Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Sounds like the distributor is running a spiff on Sailors.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
You know, that reminds me of a story. It involves strippers and woman's proclivity to menstruate at the same time when they've been around one another..
Posted By: eh76 Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Not a spiced rum fan at all. Now if you have some Ron Zacapa 23 Anos year old stuff......

Thankfully no. It's funny the things that can trigger a memory.

Isn't it.
Not to mention the funny memory.

And....HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grin
Posted By: tex_n_cal Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I have heard folks brag on Pusser's rum, never have tried it before. Usually Captain Morgan is my pick.
Posted By: Rick n Tenn Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Old New Orleans Amber Rum (3yr) very good sipping rum.
Posted By: beechdrvr Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Do your research...rum was one of the real reasons for the Revolutionary War. Study up on the Triangle Trade. You'll be better Amerircans. You'll notice they threw the tea in the harbor, not the rum...
Posted By: Aileinduinn Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Sailor Jerry is pretty good.
Captain Morgan Private Stock is also quite good.
But Bundaberg is by far my fave.
Posted By: sgt217 Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Cruzan Dark....
Posted By: 700LH Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
If you want some "flavored" rum, try some Redrum. Not bad straight up. [Linked Image]
Posted By: rifle Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Oh yea.."Meyers Dark" island juice for the soul....
Posted By: the_shootist Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Flavoured rums?????

Next thing you know, you'll be drinking your coffee with cream and sugar and a "flavour shot." laugh In my drinking days, rum was black, Captain Morgan, and Scotch was for [bleep]. grin
Posted By: Mannlicher Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum? Sounds like a girly drink to me.

Ron Zacapa Centanario is my rum of choice. Dark, flavorful, 23 years old, and smooth as a baby's butt.

Only Appleton Estate rum for me.
Posted By: BrotherBart Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I think that I might have a ghost in the house and he's a rummy... Half of that bottle is gone and I don't remember having but a couple of very conservative drinks... wink
Posted By: Teal Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
I've had the Sailors - good stuff, along with just about everything Captn Morgan's offered and Appleton Estate. I have a bottle of AE around here that's 10 years old, brought it back from Jamaica in 99.
Posted By: Aileinduinn Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Appleton is what I drink when I'm in Mexico and the islands. its a lot easier to find down there than most other offerings, and it mixes well.
Posted By: TNrifleman Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Prichard's Rum, made in Tennessee, is quite good.
Posted By: byc Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Get it from Venezuela when you can.

Good question and I believe not. But he prolly has his hands around a glass. grin

I believe Diageo, the maker of many brands, is the operator and owner.

You're right. I was just being an.....ANO! I don't know how to do the tilde thing either. Haven't drank much rum since the pre Castro days. But just finished a hot buttered rum with Myers dark rum.
Posted By: eh76 Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Hot buttered rum....that sounds good! Haven't had one in ages! That or a Tom & Jerry. My Grandpa used to make those at Christmas! Dang it was good to be a kid back then!
Posted By: BrotherBart Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
What the hell is a hot buttered rum? I've heard of it but would never consider heating up rum and butter together and drinking it...I think... sick
Posted By: toltecgriz Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Roger's Rangers lived on it...but that was a few years back.
Posted By: eh76 Re: Rum Question - 12/20/09
Schitt I thought Texans knew everything! laugh Hot buttered rum mix has among other things brown sugar, corn syrup, spices, butter, etc. You mix it it with hot water and rum. Didn't you ever have butter rum lifesavers when you were a kid?

Try Pusser's Rum. That was original issue British Navy "Grog".
