This is the view from my front door of the neighborhood. The last snow storm in Reston was about 30" & now there is another 20" falling. The Wash.,D.C. area is simply not capable of removing this much snow. The only bright spot is that all politicians have left DC. With the blowing snow DC has stopped all snow removal until conditions improve. Perhaps by spring.
Just stay warm and the heck with it! You couldn't drag me out of the house in that with a 20 mule team!
No wonder you guys are getting all that snow, the hot air has left town!
T Lee maybe you should forward that snow removal scam warning to tbear!
Oops, already gone from my 'puter.
Glad we're sitting todays storm out!
We are getting clobbered on this side of the lake. The snow is blowing perfectly sideways.
That is the only way we get it here.....
We could get another 2" today and have the wind, no serious accumulation. Hope you guys get through it OK!

We are getting a few inches today. So far it is coming straight down

Take a picture please! I have never seen that.
Opened by mistake. I though you said buzzard in Wash DC. I wondered which old buzzard you was talking about. Sorry for the interruption.

Nice pix..

Too bad the bastids weren't buried in it up to their scrawny necks...

Too funny!!
It always blows that way!! You just notice it more when the wind is full of cryogenic velocity indicators
This is truly something else to say the least. Some kind of storm here for sure.
Local news just said if you must shovel do not drink alcohol. YAH RIGHT!!!
I'm just trying to shovel to the liquor store!

Now if we could only keep them out we'd all be better off.

Now that's funny right there!!

I'd give that one a solid 10
Still snowing.
Fairfax county just closed school for the rest of the week....
I lost my employee workforce. They took their shovels and went. So much for outsourcing.
We are getting clobbered on this side of the lake. The snow is blowing perfectly sideways.
now is the time to fire up the snow blower!
I only have a half bottle of Cognac left and the snow is coming down sideways here also. my good SIL has a tracked skid loader with a tractor tire cow poop/snow remover on it, it does a super job clearing this white stuff. He makes a lot of money clearing perking lots ETC so snow is good for him.
It seems like a proper snow storm, not all the way blizzard by my reckoning but some bad spots on the road where the wind can get some headway. Visibility about 50ft in the windy white spots.
I was out a little while ago and managed to help pull a police officer out of a little drift.
The drifts are soft, fluff out of the way when hit... a lot nicer than the hard versions seen in some storms.
Most everything is closed up, no plows seen on the road but I did spy a few at the county shop as I passed, maybe mechanical problems or waiting for the wind to stop.
I have enough beer to hold me for a while but I'm getting real low on chips.
I was out earlier pulling snow off the roof and gutters.
It's switched from a real heavy wet snow to much lighter or maybe it's just because it's being blown around. Visibility here is about 50 yards. I've been keeping a couple strips open down the drive and when I was just out had a plow come by. It blowing hard and no doubt there will be some big drifts out there.
I only have a half bottle of Cognac left and the snow is coming down sideways here also.
We've switched to Irish coffee after shoveling and have nearly a full bottle of Tullamore Dew so we're good!
We went from coffee to mimosas, to bloody marys, to beer. Need to get started on the that brown likker now---
I just heard on the radio news there's 54.9" on the ground at Reagan Intl airport.
Ya lucky bastids!
There's more at Dulles,I believe. Winds blowing sustained at around 20-25 with gustts well over,at times.
This is truly miserable. Being the optimist, I'm going to assume the winds will help those concerned about the 20 tons of snow on their roof tops.
IMO, the wind makes the load asymmetric - lightening one side and loading the other. Not that a large symmetric load is a good thing!
Of course that depends on roof orientation and wind direction.
If it was me, I'd have shoveled after the last dump.
If it was me, I'd have shoveled after the last dump.
It's three stories to the roof. I'll wait for it to come to me.

I just heard that too!
Talk about a lot of snow.
And here I thought Bob and Allen were just belly achin...
If it was me, I'd have shoveled after the last dump.
With the pitch on my roof you would have busted your azzzzz for sure.
Anyone else dodging 5-7 feet ice daggers hanging from the gutters when they walk out the door? I have some that look like they are 8 ft and looking for a kill.

Vlad The Impaler meets Frosty The Snowman!
Sweet!!

I had to do the roof of my house in Fairbanks one winter. Well, I probably didn't HAVE to, but I sure felt better without the load.
I thought twice before doing that, because the ridge is 36' above ground!
With the pitch on my roof you would have busted your azzzzz for sure.
If it's that steep, probably will go on it's own. Especially if it's steel.
So I'm looking at the storm on radar
Baltimore sun weather radar and it appears to have gone through and offshore and is now curling back in from the north. Guess that's what you get when two fronts collide.
Save for the wind, are we now in the clear, Allen?
Save for the wind, are we now in the clear, Allen?
Looks to me like you were but with the weather doubling back expect more. Predictions are continued snowfall for another four hours here.
look at
www.weather.com and put in your zip, look at the radar pic and click future view and stifle your scream.
Officially now the most snowfall in Baltimore recorded history for both one event and total for a winter. All I ask if for 5 minutes with Algore, maybe less.
I hear you! And thanks. We're getting pounded by high winds. Same your end??
Hahahahah - that was fun! Hey , that's not real, right, just a joke? A pox on ALGORE !!!
I hear you! And thanks. We're getting pounded by high winds. Same your end??
Yep, blowing hard (and sucking bad!
)
We seemed to be have been spared the worst on today's round. Certainly no more than 8" or so and it was done by noon. All shoveled out, and things were drying up nicely. Now the winds have really picked up though. Should be some great drifts come tomorrow. I don't know how much we got altogether, but it was over my knees when cutting across the yard. It's settled a lot too.
That's not real, right, just a joke?
Yes officer, just a joke, not threat here (grumble grumble, not really I'd like to beat on that libturd with a Louisville slugger) huh officer? No, nothing just reminding myself to buy carbon credits next time I'm at the store.
No wonder you guys are getting all that snow, the hot air has left town!
That's the best one of the evening!.......

Ya lucky bastids!
Yeah no kidding....we're 30+" below normal here in Interior AK.

Correct---It is now moving back over us from the North. Just great!
I don't know,Hoop. I'm thinking it's not coming down this far south.
It's not all bad...
Well the flakes are getting bigger in Reston and the wind is now blowing to the South West now. Out your way.
Not snowing at all right now.
Not snowing at all right now.
Awwww shucks!
George--Think I dug that snow queen out today. Prolly not.
The "wrap-around" side of a low pressure system is sometimes the higher precip side - depending on geography.
The high wind is because Harry Reid in Nevada blows and Obamama in DC sucks!
You poor bastids is plain stuck.
At least ya got da innanet!
Dug out the Weber charcoal grill, sizzled some delmonicos. Its cold and windy out there with some snow coming down.
At least ya got da innanet!
To that point I give the utility companies in my area great accolades. All lines are underground, which helps.
Not lost anything----YET!!
It's not all bad...
Ah Hah! The source of global warming has been revealed!
Ah Hah! The source of global warming has been revealed!
I would call that a global wooding. . . . .
We could start talking geology and refer to intruding hot igneous bodies....
Wives little pooch disappeared in the snow doing his pee pee thing & all you could see was his tail. Believe he should be renamed Blue Balls. Snow has stopped, but wind is blowing hard. This is usually when I receive an emergency call that a transformer or switch I sold & designed has failed in a government or military facility & I need to go to the job site to witness the carnage.
but---does she give shovel?
still snowing over here at South Lakes t...winds are picking up too.
Don' need no steenking shovel with that much hotness!
This perfect storm is sparking the CAPS. That's all the matters.
Bring on the Canadians...Game Time!
GO CAPS!
I hear you! And thanks. We're getting pounded by high winds. Same your end??
Yep, still snowing and the winds are howling on my side of the Potomac. More drifts to remove once the sun comes up tomorrow.
Doc
I'm guessing isaac is the only one getting his end pounded....
some know how to make the best of it...
yes, that is a very neat picture.
not to live through, but to look at.

Where's the shovels?
yes, that is a very neat picture.
not to live through, but to look at.
Don't think many of us could live through that!
Not bragging but I could live those and 10 more just like them.
How do I get the ribbon and bows off?
Bob is this infront of your house?
I didn't know Scott Brown had THAT many daughters !
Last I have is the toasted "corndog".
Please resend!
I'll tell you one thing, that dang groundhog SURE pegged it on the 2nd. We need to get him in on the football picks.
Yup----cos it is still snowing here.
South Lakes, Reston, VA.
yes, that is a very neat picture.
not to live through, but to look at.
Don't think many of us could live through that!
THAT, even without a beer would kill me!
But what a way to go!
It's going to be in the mid 40's for Saturday night's Mardi Gras parades, so you ain't the only one suffering.
OH MAN Scott, that suck's for you.
oh well I'll be in Mexico saturday for a week...I'll make due
The cooler it gets, the less skin will be revealed at the parades.
oh well I'll be in Mexico saturday for a week...I'll make due
DANG! Not sure where these beauties you guys keep coming up with reside but it ain't VA or SC. Guess I need to keep on shoveling til I strike gold....
G is that your big azzzz foot in the pic?
Still snowing here. Even it's the winds just blowing snow to the ground it's the same thing. It's really cold tonight.
