As a spin off from the evolution thread.

I found Skinners theories of psychology the most enlightening. And more closely matching my view of humanity.
Doesn't anybody do Maslow anymore?
Jesus Christ and Paul are my favorite explainers of the human condition... my brother is a die-hard Jungian.
I am kind of a fan of the conditioned response.

Given a healthy brain:

Human behavior and thought processes are learned.

Proper parenting and teaching rewards desirable behavior and punishes undesirable behavior. Proper parenting will bring about a condition where by the reward process becomes internalized.

Thus the psyche and the conscience are created by the parents.

My Cat is named Maslow. The wife was a psych major. Go figure.

She tells me that for the most part Freud, Jung, and Skinner are considered jokes in the psychology world now. I don't remember why, but she explained how modern psychologist do not adhere to the concepts those three proposed.

Your wife was obviously paying attention in her classes. The last I heard, Maslow's theory wasn't supported very well by research either. I always used to grit my teeth when some trainer would present Maslow's Hierarchy at the beginning of her class like it was some sort of gospel. Intuitive appeal ain't the same as validity!

Aside from analysts who had paid out a fortune for their own didactic analyses, I never knew many folks who took Freudian theory very seriously. English teachers loved it, or course, for all the symbolism and sexual stuff.

Past tense used because I've been retired for awhile.
