I'm in the process of building a new shooting bench for my range.
Looking for a short "bar stool" type seat. I really need one of those adjustable,spin-type,stools with at least 12" of adjustment.
I teach Hunter Safety courses, and some of the sudents are young and short. So I really need something that could fit all sizes in vertical adjustment.

I've tried typing in a search for spin type bar stools on Google and don't see what I'm after. If anyone knows of a website or storefront- I'd appreciate the info. Also, if any national retail sores might have such a stool.

Would like to keep the cost to $100 or there abouts.

You'd better hope I don't beat you to it! I mentioned to my buddies just yesterday that I was in the market for that very thing (without wheels). The bench I built fits me fine with a plastic patio chair but most of my shooting friends are 6 ft plus and I hated to see them leaning so far to scrunch into the bench.

Look for piano stools. They can be real spendy,might look on Ebay or if you'r anywhere that might have a music shop,used pianos etc,for a used one.My grandma had one,they'r big fun for a bored 5 year old to spin around on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I've seen some el cheapo mechanics' stools on e-Bay. Could serve your purpose.

Take a look at one of the 'drum thrones' sold at music stores. I don't know if it has a full 12" of adjustment, but I use one and it works fine.

That Sinclair looks about right. Do you know if it swivels?

I fear plastic (and upholstery)- mine will be left out in the elements.

mac- I'm sorry to say I don't know. I remembered seeing the stool in one of their catalogs so threw the link in. I'm sure Sinclair would oblige any questions by email or phone though.

Don't know for sure if it will meet all your requirements but something worth taking a look at are these simple computer desk chairs we sit on.



They have the necessary parts at least, and are available almost every where, new and used, at reasonable prices, mine cost less than $30.



Some adjust the height with a gas shock, the least expensive have the spin-screw adj. you mentioned. If your not interested in the upholstered seat, remove it (mine has four screws) and replace w/ something that better suits your needs, same w/ the casters they usually just pull out or might have a spring type clip.

I thought I had the perfect find, for $7 at a junk shop in Reno, but its lowest position is 3 or 4 inches too high. Back to the drawing board.

My buddy got the Sinclair shooting stool. It's basically a drummers throne.

I spent $50ish for a drummer's throne. It works well. Many of the 1000 yd shooters around here have one as well.

Any office supply, Best Buy, and such will have the gas shock kind of secretary chair with no arms, like Joken said the casters pull right off to be solid. We use the gas shocks on fishing chairs in bass boats, take a look in a marine store or Wal Mart and build your own. All it takes is a pedistal, gas shock and seat of your choice. -- no

I have one of the stools sold by Sinclair. I like it as it can be set at any height easily. It's very well made too.

That stool sold by Sinclair is perfect. I have two. They swivel and the little paddle you see under the seat is the release so you can adjust it. It is pneumatic and works like a charm.
