Looking forward to the Lions game today. A win over "Americas team" in Dallas will go a long way.

My feeling is that if they can contain DeMarcus Ware, they will win. If not, well......

Would LOVE to see Suh and the boys rough up Romeo.......

Way too many road picks but it's all just a gut feeling.

I see you picked the Pack this week. Collins? (tough to replace!)

Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Collins is tough to replace - he had spinal fusion surgery - won't know for 6 months yet if he can ever play in the NFL again.

I chose the Pack because they SHOULD win this - walking away easily. If they don't - they deserve to miss the play offs.

Burnett is a good safety - he's really not played much and performs and this year he doesn't look timid to hit like he did last year.

I suspect you'll see a lot more Big Oakie from Dom where he moves Chuck to safety to get more DB's on the field.

Lions over Cowboys- I think the easiest one this week
Saints over the Jags
Eagles of 49'ers
Skins over Rams
Titans over Browns
Bills over Bengals
Viking over chiefs - flip a coin
Panthers over Bears - I've got a gut feeling
Steelers over Texans
Falcons over Seahawks
Giants over cards
Chargers over Fins
I don't think packers will cover 13 1/2 going with broncos
Pats over Raiders
Against my better judgement going with the Jets over Ravens - tough being a Jets fan
Colts over Bucks

Ouch, I wish him all the best in big scheme of things.

I don't see the Pack not making the playoffs, just hope they can secure the division - which they should.

Yeah - he had the same surgery Sterling did. Lot's changed since then and I hope to see him back. IMO he was on his way to the HOF.

The Pack should make the play offs but if they lose to the Donks - they don't deserve to...

In Green Bay, so it should be a no-brainer. I've been a Packer fan long enough to know that means "watch out".

The Lions get a real test today. Dallas is trying to stay afloat, is at home, and has a defense taylor made to teams like the Lions.
If Stafford is ready for prime-time, today will tell the tale.

I'm bettin' he is. (kick off is looming, let's find out).

phewww, oops!

I'm not in tune. Breast cancer awareness?
Posted By: byc Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Yup!

Breast Cancer Awareness Messages

About a Crucial Catch

The NFL, its clubs, players and the NFL Players Association are proud to support the fight against breast cancer. Our campaign, "A Crucial Catch", in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are 40 and older. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel, on-field pink ribbon stencils, special game balls and pink coins - all to help raise awareness for this important campaign. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches, along with special game balls and pink coins will be auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFL.com/auction), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities. This is an issue that has directly touched the lives of so many in the NFL family, and we are committed to helping make a difference in breast cancer prevention.

PITT's D looks like garbage right now. Old and slow indeed.

Houston's running and passing at will and the blitz isn't pressuring anyone.
Posted By: byc Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Dang! Lions down 7.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Chris Houston just got burned ny Dez Bryant. Nice throw by Romeo.

Not sure what my biggest pet peeeve in football is. But DBs who NEVER turn around to see where the ball is rates high on the list. Right up there with poor tackling. Just aggravating to watch.......
Posted By: byc Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Skins up 7-zip.

Looks like Scam just threw a pick 6. Bears 10-3.
Posted By: safariman Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
No Raider love today, huh? Agree that the Patriots are going to be tough to beat today after the loss, just like the Raiders were last week after blowing a lead BUT Raiders are going to be really tough at home, and get two starting, big hitting DB's back as well as Jacoby Ford. If DMac gets on track early, watch out. Gooooooo RAAAAAAYYYYDDDAAAAHHHHHZZZZZZ!

Down in Nor Cal myself today at my sons house, all of us, including my grandbabies, all up in Raiders gear. Would be great to enjoy watching a win with my son whom I only get to see once or twice a year.

Line play will, as always, be a deciding factor. Both O lines are good, Raiders D line is, I think, much better.

Don't get me wrong, nothing would make me happier than a Lions win over those chicks down in Dullazz but they're losing this game and getting beat - they just don't look good at all and Stafford doesn't look comfortable at all. You'd think that line has to practice against Suh - they'd handle the D of Dallas.

BTW - I haven't heard Suh's name all day....

Unlike the 'Boys, the Lions can't get anywhere near the QB.

Stafford is getting drilled every time he drops back, and it's showing. He's spooked in a bad way.

Suh made a thinly veiled threat that Romo might get hurt today due to his ribs and Suh's play.

Guessing that didn't go over well with Dallas's line and if Romo does get hurt - I'd expect Suh to need a set of knee braces by the end of the game.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
The 'Boys get the ball with 1:28 in the half. They could end this right now.

Do or die for the lion D.

In fairness, the entire Lions O-line is getting manhandled, not even requiring the 'Boys to blitz, so when they do - it's nearly a certainty that Stafford gets bulldozed (and he has).

'Boys gettin' ready to score again, and it's the only televised game I get, so it looks like it's time for the radio, and a competitive game (Texans vs Steelers should do it).

ten straight incompletions by Jax, including a failed fourth and two at Saints 20, with five minutes left.

5 to go with the Rams marching. All the Rams players now have bloody pants.

Don't worry, I'm not. But I don't need to remind you of the GRIEF Lions fans have been subjected to for years. It's kinda hard to not get, well, pretty happy. grin

We still have some needs on the O-line and in the secondary, but dammit, we're a pretty good team right now. And getting better every Sunday. We'll hit some rocks in the road, no doubt, but I'm thinking we'll be competitive for years to come. Finally......

Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Only two teams remain undefeated, and one of them is still playing today - Lions, and Packers.

Two come-from-behind wins in a row is impressive enough, but they both came on the road, it's noteworthy at a minimum.

Congrats (hey, if the other team's QB wants you to win - win).

Tony Romo Was Not Inspired By Jerry Jones Encouragement
by Glenn Davis | 5:24 pm, October 2nd, 2011

The Cowboys lost to the Lions 34-30 today, which would be disappointing for Dallas to begin withbut considering they led 27-3 at one point, its an especially crushing loss. Itll be especially tough to swallow for Tony Romo, who threw three interceptions two of which were returned for the touchdowns that got the Lions back into the game in the third quarter. And in fact, Romo looked like he was already having a tough time dealing with it before the game even ended. See this video, from Mike Tunison:

Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
There are QBs with individual players at specific positions that are better for sure but if you were to assign a level to a player's talent and averaged them - Aaron's probably got the best or higest average player around him.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Sooner or later people are going to learn that Jordy Nelson is a legit WR and a threat.

I'm guessing his tan lulls more than one CB to sleep.

I'm just thankful that we finally have a game worth watching on a Thanksgiving Day.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Actually - that's 3 TD's in the air and 2 on the ground. We had 1 pick 6 remember?

DAMN - Aaron's #2 int but on a tip I guess. Moral victory.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Randal F-n Cobb is primed to be a STUD in this offense too.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Oh, oh tit-for-tat int's - Sam "the thief" Shields, YEAH BABY!

Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
WHAT an INT - was like slow motion, you could see it coming!

Time for Flynn.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Starks is a bulldozer. He's got some power for sure.

Could be an epic weekend for Wisco...

Badgers, Packers and the Brewers might go up 2-0 in the NLDS.

WOW - how did he fit that in there!!?!?!

Driver - no wonder.

So that's 4 in the air and 2 on the ground... Aaron's on his game!
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
And how.

Time for Matty-boy now though - you don't get experience without taking the field, and this kind of chance doesn't happen often.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Agreed. Besides, Denver might be looking for a QB (grin), time to show what's available!
Posted By: Ghostinthemachine Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Nobody touches the Pack this year.

Rodgers cannot be stopped. Good god, what a friggen machine. It's just too easy for him. They need to change the rules or sumthin. lol

On the right Sunday, Yes. But if they played ten times, GB wins 6 or 7.

No.

It'd take a couple big plays (kinda like today in Dallas) for 'em to stay with this offense.

They'll put up some numbers, 'cause the Packer D just isn't what it was last year (not even close). In the end, the Packers just have too many weapons on offense, and the Lions really only have one.
Posted By: bruinruin Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Good question. I won't claim to have the answer to it. Detroit seems to have trouble getting it going, but once they do they have been tough. If they get sorted out they are going to be an even bigger hanfull.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
I think the Packers have more rushing yards today, than the Lions have for the season.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
I still can't get over 6 TDs including 2 on the deck for Aaron.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
Pretty well had their way with 'em.

Oh no - Flynn's first pass of the season gets tipped, and intercepted. (bummer)
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
And once again the D gets another INT right back.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
That's twice today!

Packers - 49

Broncos - 23

final.

Yeah, there is that little issue Detroit needs to overcome.
Posted By: Mako25 Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
It takes time, agonizing, seemingly non-moving, time.
Posted By: Ghostinthemachine Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
I don't think the Lions can hang with the Packers. They're a nice club that's on the rise, but I see them as an 11-5 team that'll make the playoffs but that's about it.
Posted By: byc Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/02/11
I'm so damned tired of these weird rules.

WR Victor Cruise of the Giants catches the ball and then stumbles and falls but is untouched by a Cards D-man. He stands up and drops the ball. Cards grab it but the Refs say Cruise gave himself up so the play is not reviewable. WTF??? Gave himself up!??

The Lions are not only the same level YET, but certainly have the potential to be.

To say they only have one weapon is ridiculous. with Stafford, Johnson, Nate Burleson, Tightass Young, Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Sheffler. That's 5 damn good pass catchers.

Jahvid Best is no slouch, but needs some better blocking. He's just not an every down back. However, Mikel Leshoure waits in the wings.

They are not far away from being very dangerous.......
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Johnson and Pettigrew are 2 huge weapons.

The problem is Suh is going to really start hurting this team if they don't corral his stupidity at times. The only time I heard his name all day was - penalty.

That said, Detroit will now have to learn what it's like to play with EXPECTATIONS. It's easy to go out there when everyone thinks you're a cute story but now Detroit is EXPECTED to win.

We'll see if they can.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Most do not know how good Pettigrew is. YET.

Suh will be fine. I like his aggressiveness. I have confidence he won't lose it at the wrong time in a big game.

It is fun watching this team progress. Wish they could start playing more than one half of football, though. Which is essentially what they have done in 3 of the last 4 wins.

How frickin' bad is Minnesota, eh? Wow......
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
The penalty call was bullschit. Suh was already in the air, no extra step taken, and he didn't lead with his head. Text book hit, literally a split second after Homo let go of the ball.

Far less "late" than several hits Stafford took, or Homo took, from other players.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Suh is a marked man. He hits hard. He makes QBs whine........
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Exactly.

That, and Goodell is turning the NFL into a weak-hearted, sissy's game.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Yep. That and all the rule changes. Drives me nuts. I'm still pissed off about Calvin Johnson's TD getting taken away vs. Chicago......

Got excited when I saw that the Cardinals were leading; then some highlights came up and I saw that they were wearing damn black jerseys - final was probably some sort of Devine justice for that travesty.

The Ravens are really, really damned good.

The Bills are for real this year, just coming off a huge upset hangover and got caught.

The Pats are just a friggin' machine. As are the Packers.

The Lions are incredibly good, but not there yet. Next year, with Fairley getting his NFL legs this year, Leshoure in and healthy, and couple DBs added to the roster, and wow...

Dullazz is terrible with TR at the helm; Worstington is just that.

Oakland is suicidal; crazy good running game, no discipline and keen to self-inflict lethal penalty wounds. As long as Davis is above ground, that'll be the case.

And, Seattle is the worst team I've ever seen; they've set out to lose the season to get Andrew Luck, and can't even get that right.
Posted By: Teal Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
On the plus side - Minnesota didn't blow a 2nd 1/2 lead this week.

They were already down to the CHIEFS at the start if the 2nd 1/2.

lookin' to me like a Saints vs Packers NFC showdown, and Patriots vs who knows in the AFC.

If Ngata keeps getting to take shots on Sanchez like that, Mark will be crippled by the end of the game.

Ngata is NOT a small man, nor a "soft" hitter. 27-7, with plenty of time in the second quarter.

Statement game, by Baltimore.

They're probably going to be in the playoffs, maybe even as a division winner - but unless things imprrove quickly, they just aren't that good.

Two questions that cannot be answered in my mind at current....

1) Why was the 30TC ever introduced?
2) Why is Sanchez the third highest paided QB in the NFL?

Both are beyond reason....

Pretty accurate assessments. I equate Al Davis to Fidel Castro - things won't improve in Oakland/Cuba until they both kick the bucket.

Didn't read through the entire thread but how about this year's 49ers? I'm a big '9ers fan, so I'm biased but thought they showed some pluck today, being down 20 early in the 3rd Qtr. Last year, they'd have gotten on the bus at the half. So far it seems like Harbaugh (Jim) knows what buttons to push.
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
The 'Niners are overperforming in a terribly weak division. Seriously, the NFC West is pathetic.

That said, Harbaugh is showing that he is a superb coach, and building something good out there.
Posted By: pinotguy Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Can't argue with the state of the NFC West, that's for sure. But, just like the Big East in CFB, the division winner gets an invite to the dance. And, look what Seattle did last year - both good (beat the Saints in the Wild-Card round) and bad (first 7-9 play-off team).
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
The NFC West might have a division champ with a losing record again this year.

Now there's something to be proud of...

Tis why Baltimore is my other team. They're bas ass. Ray Lewis scared the ball out of the recievers hands in the 3 quarter. Poor boy should have hung onto the ball because big Ray done slobberknocked him anyway. The guy's getting up in age and is still a beast, not showing any signs of slowing.

Ray Rice is a tough, hard nosed rb that can catch and run. There isn't a better d-back in the league than Ed Reed, imo. Flacco is good, not great, but good. Moves the ball when he has to and makes the plays that need to be made. I hope McNabb was watching that game last night because that is exactly what he needs to do.
Posted By: noharleyyet Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Dez Bryant needs to watch lots of Calvin Johnson highlights...that's the way to finish a game...come to think of it, that's just what he did yesterday.
Posted By: AkMtnHntr Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Watched the Raiders-Pats game yesterday afternoon and noticed how the Raiders were reverting back to their old ways. Seymour had 3 penalties all by himself on 1 drive, one which was pretty blatant against Brady. Brady to Welker, you'll be hearing that a lot this season as there isn't anyone that can shut him (Welker) down. But where the hell is Ochocinco?? Pats D needs to improve if they want to go to the playoffs.

Anyone else getting tired of seeing Rodgers doing the belt thing everytime he scores? He seems to be getting a little cocky these days since they won the SB last year.

Glad to see the Jets get their azzes handed to them again, overrated doesn't even come close to describing them. I'm sure Ryan has something witty to say this week. Looking forward to the Pats-Jets game next Sunday in NE.

What's with the Saints, they always seem to play to the level of their opponent.

I watched Ed Reed when he was at Miami, and have continued to at Baltimore.

IMHO, he's not only the best DB in the league today, he's one of the best ever.

Agree 100%, a no doubt hall of famer, along with Ray Lewis.

I use to hate Ray until last night, as I was watching the national anthem prior to the game they showed Ray singing along and you could tell he wasn't just lipsyncing it, he was really into it.

Needless to say, I felt a little guilty for disliking him as much as I did as he genuinely loves what he does and he loves being an American. How can you fault a guy for that??

Yep, they're certainly on their way. I'm happy to see the Lions doing this well. I'm not quite ready to anoint them as kings of the hill quite yet.

They're not unlike the Packers - an injury to the QB and the hopes are out the window.

They've got a few obstacles to overcome yet, but they're going to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come. And, just imagine if Millen hadn't set them back 5-6 years!!!

Yeah - Aaron's game was amazing. First QB in NFL HISTORY to pass for more than 400, throw 4 TD's and run for 2 in a single game.

3rd straight season he's had 4 games in a row with a PR over 110. No other QB since the merger has done it more than 2 straight seasons.

He also has the team record for most passing yards in the first 4 games of the season - beating Favre.

2 Int's in 141 attempts (IIRC yesterday's was a tipped ball too)

In Packers history a QB has passed for more than 400 yards just 6 times. Of those 6 times, Aaron is responsible for 3 of them. 423, 408 and 404 yards. The most attempts he's made in thise games was 42 - all the other players were over 50 for attempts.

(I know weird right? With all the yards Favre threw for all the time - I thought it would have been more but he's only gone over once. 402 yards)

I really believe that if Ted can keep talent around him and he keeps healthy - he can go down as one of the greatest EVER in the game, not just for GB but the NFL.
Posted By: VAnimrod Re: NFL Sunday! - 10/03/11
Agreed. IMHO, we're damned lucky as fans to be able to see, or have seen, Brady, Manning, and Rodgers all play at the same time, and often against one another. Brees is right up there, as well.

For QBs, those 4 will rank up there VERY highly when it's all said and done.
