Well boys, for the first time in nearly 20 years I'm sitting in my living room in my bathrobe sipping coffee on the morning of the Wisconsin gun deer season opener. Course, I'm in Texas now.

So I have to be wonderin'... anybody get one yet?

Eagerly awaiting the reports, boys and girls!
Results? They're 3 hours in, give em some time man. laugh
I missed two,

Got tired of having these yearlings coming thru my son and my area Sunday morning so off they went to jerky heaven.
Didn't see many horns but then I haven't found a good jerky recipe for horns.

This is my father's buck he shot Sunday am. The buck came through following 2 does at about 7:30 and was about 75yds when he shot him through both lungs and he spun in a circle and went down.

We watched this deer a lot this year and there is still a larger one with a drop tine around the same property.

I missed a medium size one in the brush and the only clear shot I had was when he stopped in front of the steer shed but I did get a coyote who was following some does.

We passed a couple small ones yesterday and another medium one this am with only one buck tag left.

I guess 7400's and core-lokts still work!
My elk hunting partner has an in in Wisconson and their group killed 21 on the weekend. I think he only shot 3 this year. No idea where their camp is.

Decided to take the Sendero out last night and watched a group of 7 come out of a neighbors sanctuary into the cut corn just before dark. A medium buck, small buck and a couple does and fawns fed but Mr. Big didn't show up so I decided to finally see what the 300rum would do and at 347 yds it was quite impressive.

We did watch a medium sized buck at about 300yrds this morning chase a doe around for 15minutes in one of our fields and he ran her really hard so she must be close to ready.
Got back tonight.

First three days, very little activity, and rare tracks made for long days of sitting. The fifth day the sun rose on the Willow Flowage and oodles of recent tracks - both deer and wolf. The latter was a new experience for me.

Saw three does, but no shot opportunities. Uncle missed a doe, apparently was too small to hit (snicker).

Hoping for better luck next year.
I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but I have to wonder what WIDNR's objective is? It would seem that they were out to deal a serious blow to the population by allowing most every unit an antlerless plus a buck tag. Then all this $2 bonus antlerless crap.

When you see opening weekend antlerless tally go up (versus last year) 200%, 700%, and even 1100% in some counties it really makes you wonder what will be left.

lot's were successful, but MANY got skunked or hadrly saw anything. Myself, i'll watch my camera and see what survived and make my decision what to do for ML season now that things have calmed down a bit. No fawns for me thanks...
