Billionaire investor George Soros, infamous for his lavish funding of big-government and globalist causes, dropped several bombshells during a recent interview with Newsweek including a bold forecast of potential Western economic collapse, massive civil unrest, and the end of what he likes to paint as the �free market.� He also sees the emergence of one of the most dangerous periods in modern history, describing it as a time of �evil.�
Riots on the streets of America are inevitable, the financier explained, expressing his thoughts on the subject in a manner Newsweek described as �almost gleefully.� And it will likely be used by authorities as an excuse to crack down on dissent. The �strong-arm tactics� Soros predicts will be employed could even bring about a �repressive political system� in the U.S. where individual liberty is curtailed, he said.
�The collapse of the Soviet system was a pretty extraordinary event, and we are currently experiencing something similar in the developed world, without fully realizing what�s happening,� he told the magazine before heading off to the World Economic Forum in Davos, a yearly gathering of top central bankers, executives, and political figures set to begin on Wednesday.
In the article, essentially a profile on the infamous billionaire entitled �George Soros on the Coming U.S. Class War,� the Hungarian-born hedge-fund manager claimed he did not really know what to invest in at the moment. Sources close to Soros told the magazine that he was sitting on a lot of cash.
�It�s very hard to know how you can be right, given the damage that was done during the boom years,� Soros said, refusing to discuss his portfolio. �At times like these, survival is the most important thing.�
But he is not optimistic, judging from his comments at least. �I am not here to cheer you up. The situation is about as serious and difficult as I�ve experienced in my career,� Soros told Newsweek. �We are facing an extremely difficult time, comparable in many ways to the 1930s, the Great Depression. We are facing now a general retrenchment in the developed world, which threatens to put us in a decade of more stagnation, or worse.�
According to Soros, there are several routes the looming crisis could take � but none of them is good. �The best-case scenario is a deflationary environment,� he said. �The worst-case scenario is a collapse of the financial system.�
Perhaps ironically, Soros � widely considered the epitome of evil by his many critics � warned of an impending age of �evil.� Claiming that belief in market efficiency and self-regulation is being debunked by the crisis (ignoring, of course, the dominant role of anti-market central-bank manipulation and government intrusion in the chaos), Soros said the looming �market� crisis �is comparable to the collapse of Marxism as a political system.�
Soros also lambasted �unrestrained competition� for allegedly producing unintentional but harmful consequences. At the same time, however, he outright accused many financial kingpins linked to the current crisis of being �evil.� As an example, Newsweek cited ex-Goldman Sachs boss Lloyd Blankfein, who headed the great �Vampire Squid� during part of the crisis and famously told the media that bankers were doing �God�s work.�
�To many, the idea of Soros lecturing the world on �evil� is, well, rich,� pointed out Newsweek writer John Arlidge, citing Soros� business history and recent personal troubles. The financier made a fortune betting against currencies, and more recently, he has been accused of assault by an ex-girlfriend. But there is more to Soros� dark side than good investments and bad relationships.
While denying that he is funding it, Soros praised the Occupy Wall Street movement. But as The New American reported in October, the billionaire�s �philanthropist� fingerprints are all over the massive anti-capitalist protests, from funding the magazine which first called for an �occupation� to lavishing money on big government-supporting front groups such as MoveOn.Org agitating for bigger demonstrations.
Soros has also been a key backer of the Democratic Party and President Obama. He did claim in his interview with Newsweek, however, that he was disappointed in the Obama administration despite being hopeful initially. But he has not backed out of politics.
�I remain a supporter of the Democratic Party, but I�m fully aware of their shortcomings,� Soros said, calling for the ongoing and looming crises to be used for advancing his goals. �In the crisis period, the impossible becomes possible,� he said. �The European Union could regain its luster. I�m hopeful that the United States, as a political entity, will pass a very severe test and actually strengthen the institution.�
According to the Newsweek article, Soros has a new book entitled Financial Turmoil in Europe and the United States due to be released in February. Apparently it covers his views on these subjects in greater detail. And based on his recent comments, the book is not likely to paint a rosy picture.
Of course, Soros is hardly the only heavyweight predicting dark developments in 2012. Trends Research Institute chief Gerald Celente, who has an uncanny record of forecasting events, offered a dire analysis of what may be coming. Among the top trends predicted for this year: �We are about to lose � freedom as the fascist states keep taking over and using fear and hysteria to control us,� he told the free market-oriented Daily Bell.
�I believe that we have to watch out for something along the lines of an economic martial law,� Celente said in the interview. �The European system is in collapse. The financial system in the United States is just as tenuous, if not more, and I believe they will not admit there will be a financial crash but rather they will use a geo-political issue to get the people in a state of fear and hysteria whereby they'll then call a bank holiday or devaluation of the currency, or a hyperinflation of the currency, and blame it on somebody else.�
While some mainstream talking heads and government officials speak of a �recovery,� few serious analysts give the optimistic sentiments much credence. In reality, the economies and currencies of the developed world could be on the brink of a cataclysm. And the world�s elite � with Soros almost certainly included � are likely already preparing.

Honestly? I don't know, but looking at the numbers, how can it not? I've listened to the side that says imminent collapse and the side that says prosperity and neither has happened. Things have just limped along. I try to be prepared and to do what I can for my family, but every day after a certain point, a man just gets older and less able to do so. Maybe you have more knowledge, but physically...you know? Sometimes it seems that time doesn't show how much I've learned as much as expose how ignorant I was/am.
I know that the figures indicate things getting worse and none of the candidates want to do anything other than maybe lessen the deficit minutely and thus slow the debt burden down as opposed to paying it off and creating a surplus-except Paul, which is why I support him.

I tend to agree. Soros appears to be extraordinarily gifted at working "the system" for his own gain.
I really can't imagine why he is so bent on destruction of the world economy unless he envisions himself coming out on top in the end... sort of like a real-world Monopoly game where he ends up with all the money, and nobody else has any. The danger to himself, which he apparently doesn't see, is that no one can envision the future with perfect clarity.
Soros and other international money players like him suffer the delusion that their previous success in manipulating monetary systems, and their ability to predict which way markets are going to play, is a sign of their ability to read the financial future under any and all circumstances. Soros doesn't seem to realize that by investing in the destruction of current economic systems he is creating a monster that even he won't be able to control.
And like many powerful men, he is afraid of dying. He wants to live forever. He's in for a rude surprise, I suspect, when he gets to the other side.
But my short answer is this: is Soros right? Probably, to some degree, yes. Financial hard times are inevitable. War is inevitable. But like Billy Graham, I've read to the end of the book and I know how it'll all turn out, which is a great comfort to me.

can it be avoided? perhaps, if we start to run budget surpluses instead of deficits and paying down our debt, we could perhaps regain our rating and still be looked to as the world's reserve currency.
but the numbers have gotten so far out of hand, we're nigh on impossible to make it happen. figures don't lie, but liars figure, see the way inflation is currently calculated by our gov't, the way they keep some liabilities off the books etc.
but I don't think we have the political will to do what it would take to make it happen
and sadder still the populace as a whole doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to take what would happen even if our politicians found the will to rectify the situation.
so yes, I see it coming, others way smarter than me (not hard to find plenty of those folks) saw it coming before, some were so early in their predictions they were viewed as kooky.
even this late in the game, some here that are doing what they can to weather the storm they see coming have been chided in their attempts to mitigate the violent economic weather they see headed towards us. I can't speak for too many others, but I know mike762 and myself would be gladly called kooks, lose out on what some call our investments (what we view as insurance) if the coming economic storm could be avoided. Me ending up with egg on my face and losing a couple of hundred thousand dollars or so, would be far less dangerous to my progeny's future than for me to be correct in my current assessments.
There's a lot more at stake than folks retirement accounts, in my view what's at stake is our very way of life as we've known it.
to my way of thinking of all the problems we face, Muslim hatred of us, porous southern borders that allow people that hate us to come here and live and milk our already strained social system, pale in comparison to either impede or destroy the life and system of gov't we've known as Americans.

So Yes I do think we're going to have violent economic upheaval, along with blood in the streets as a symptom of such. Hungry people are desperate people, desperate people take desperate actions. For most better to do down in a hail of gunfire trying to obtain food than watch yourself or those you love die a slow gnawing death of hunger.
But we could survive such a scenario, it wouldn't be pleasant, but it wouldn't wipe us out either. Many of those that have prepared would survive.
what we can't survive is the aftermath, if during crisis we suspend the use of our Constitution as to how we run our country, we're most likely not to ever gain back the liberties enumerated by our Constitution. If we have Obama in office, or Romney or any of a handful of others that seem most likely to gain office I don't believe we'll have a champion for the Constitution.

am I a Paulbot? to some perhaps so, but I don't see myself that way.
I just see Paul as the lesser of evils available to us currently.
just as I see sound fiscal policy, living within your means as the correct way to live, run a household or run a country.

in related news, based upon the Fed's statement to keep interest rates near zero through 2014, gold popped through and settled just above $1700 per oz.
would surprise me none to see some profit taking and see it fall below 1700 again, but on balance it seems headed higher.
the one newsletter I purview that's called our economic scenario with the greatest degree of accuracy and clarity has called for gold to trade between 1700-2100 and oz. this year.
