About a year ago I donated a pallet some 63 cases of a top name brand of Biodegradable sporting clay pigeons to my gun club...

They have now put out a notice that no more Biodegradable clay pigeons are to be used on the club premises...

Reason being that while they are Biodegradable, they so change the PH levels of the soil that it kills off all the vegitation...

They have decided to use the standard breakable clay's and will clean up the pieces when also cleaning up and recycling the lead...

Thought I'd pass this little aspect of them on.

What do they do with the ph? Raise? Lower? Our soil ph could stand to be lowered a notch or 2.
Yup, our club learned our lesson on that as well. No more bio's for us.
Yeah thats pretty much old news.

Copied there statement.

Please do not use Biodegradable Shotgun Clays on the Range
While using clays that are called biodegradable would seem
to be environmentally friendly it is actually better for the environment
of our range to use the old style clays. Biodegradable
clays, with greenish-white interiors, produce sulfuric acid when
they breakdown in soil. In large amounts, this acid changes the
balance in the soil and is known to kill vegetation, including
large trees on other gun ranges. West End requests that our
members use the old type of clays, which have black interiors
when broken apart. They dont break down but they also dont
alter the Ph balance in the soil. By maintaining a balance in our
soils acid-base, heavy metals are less likely to leach into the soil
and can be recovered along with broken clays during the harvesting
process.
Thank you,
Some years one just can't win.
I'm really glad they did that, ever since I started trying to raise corn on the trap field, I haven't been able to get a crop growing. I'm sure this will make a difference...
