The May 2012 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 840,412 is an increase of 20.6 percent over the NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 696,947 in May 2011. For comparison, the unadjusted May 2012 NICS figure of 1,305,392 reflects a 7.0 percent increase from the unadjusted NICS figure of 1,219,872 in May 2011.

This marks the 24th straight month that NSSF-adjusted NICS figures have increased when compared to the same period the previous year.

The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks used by several states such as Kentucky, Iowa and Michigan for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases.

Though not a direct correlation to firearms sales, the NSSF-adjusted NICS data provide a more accurate picture of current market conditions. In addition to other purposes, NICS is used to check transactions of firearms sales and transfers on new and used handguns and long guns.
Besides new gun purchases there seems to be many more older guns showing up at auctions. The economy might be bringing those out.
But your brObama says everything is fine!

Believe he was addressing Bush's base and not the working class.
yeah whatever......
the coming months are going to be interesting.
I did my part in May - one Ruger Hawkeye.

I'm doubling my efforts in June - two, count'em two, new Mausers.

grin
can there be a new mauser? just asking.

Wow - that's delusional even for you. crazy
I hear what you're saying. wink

Newly manufactured may be a better description. Getting a couple of left hand Zastava Mausers. Word is they reached these shores this week and are clearing customs, so hopefully we should get the word on them next week.
Cool! I keep forgetting how "sinister" you are. That would add a whole other layer of expense to an already spendy hobby!

If I could fall in love with the 243 and 308 my worries would be over!

That's a whole bunch of people buying guns before they vote Obama into office for a second term. They know what that will do to their Second Amendment rights, but they already got their guns so they still are going to vote for him.
Hey Terry speaking of firearms

can you tell me what I saw at a garage sale yesterday?

it was a Taurus 9 shot .22 in SS with about a 5.5-6 bbl, transfer bar, wood grips (without the cow) it's not one of the new 99? that have the vent rib thing going on

it's reminiscent of an old model smith, K series, minaturized, no full underlug, just enough to house the ejector. Kind of a pretty little handgun.

is it a Taurus 94 in .22 lr mode.

turns out my google fu is some pretty weak stuff, I've searched high and low for a pic of it that describes what it is and the vintage.
MODEL 96 TARGET SCOUT is my guess. .22 LR cal. only, double action, 6 shot, 6 in. barrel, checkered walnut grips, same features as Model 86, 34 oz. Disc. 1998.
The firearms manufacturers should be sending cards of thanks to the LIC...

My local gun store has always had five or six AK type rifles on display. Recently I went in there and there wasn't a single one. Then someone came in and asked for one and was told there was a back order for them, and they didn't know when they'd be getting more. He asked for the price and was told they start at around $600.00 when they can get them in.
Bear in mind that all NICS checks are NOT for purchases of new or used firearms. If you pawn a firearm you have to undergo the same NICS check to receive it back when the pawn is paid.I'm sure gun sales are up but in these economic times so are pawns.
