Compare design, construction and materials used. Before you buy a safe consider what you are putting in it and why. BTW long gun capacity should be taken with a grain of salt...it will hold 39 long guns if they are lever actions without scopes.

+1

Looking at that layout for 39 rifles, I see nothing but opportunity for safe damage to the guns. Imported. From where? Let me guess..... China.

Buy American and for my "39" guns, I have a Fort Knox and a Zanotti.

Thanks for the input, certainly all brands over estimate the # of guns they can hold.
Yes, its built in China. I am all in for support of american companies but, thats not a deal breaker for me.You would be hard pressed to go through anyone's household and not find products from foreign countries. Its a world economy now. The chinese are building a $300 million plant in one of the poorest counties in the United States that will employ 500 people that desperatly need jobs.
Now back to the safe, how about the Liberty FatBoy?

I note the fire rating is 60 minutes at 1200 degrees, but there is no rating agency (e.g., UL) listed. How good is it really? Who knows?

Liberty's door construction is drywall (fireboard) and thin steel...no plate.

Budget is under $2000,preferably $1500;not worried about Ocean 11 assault.

Most of the other manufacturers offer their safes in 11 gauge steel instead of 12.

I went through the gun safe research exercise about 5 years ago with a budget of up to $2K and went with an American Security safe. Was right at $2K delivered. By all accounts was the best option at that price range at the time.

try looking at a rhino or bighorn

Ocean 11 is not what I was referring to. Fire and simple hammer/crow bar will do.

I would do this at a minimum.

Just giving you the benefit of the doubt, I used to sell gun safes until every box store in the country started selling them. I couldn't compete with their volume purchasing power. That and most people don't care what they buy as long as it looks like a safe. Most of the cheaper boxes on the market can be broken into with a hammer and screwdriver. Then there are the things you can't see like the locking mechanisms.

All I am saying for example is why would you $10,000+ worth of guns, optics, etc (have no idea what you have or not) in a $900 box?

Same guy has a Ft Knox 66x37 Maverick for $1800 delivered?
Posted By: eh76 Re: Brahma Gun Safe - 07/15/12
Maverick was designed to compete with the box store safes. It came out after I quit selling safes. I would go that route over the Brahma.

What options does he offer on that Maverick?

I assume that price is basic configuration, direct price from Ft Knox is $2084 shipped. I like the 3/4 long guns(30?) configuration, for now.

I would definitely go with the Ft Knox Maverick....but that is just my opinion.

Opinions on Winchester safes?
Posted By: eh76 Re: Brahma Gun Safe - 07/15/12
Tip them over take a hammer and screwdiver to get the bottom off. They were tack welded only last I looked.

Just go with the Ft Knox. You will be glad you did. Their Lifetime warranty you can count on.
